Answers...

A couple days ago I solicited some questions regarding the recent announcements at DG. The questions were posted here:

You are welcome to continue to post new questions there and I will answer them here.

GrammysGardenAZ asked:

Quoting:
Mugs?

I don't expect to sell coffee mugs again. That doesn't mean I won't ever do it, but I have no desire to. I will still have them to give away as gifts and prizes.

Zanymuse asked:
Quoting:
Is the 25.00 subscription fee a done deal or is it still being decided?

Terry and I agreed on the price change many months ago and we've already decided on it and announced it, including a solid date of when it takes effect.

Cordeledawg asked:
Quoting:
Will T-Shirts for local round ups ever be available for sale?

We will offer DG tshirts for sale again, perhaps in February. They will be $12 each again, just like last time.

sempervirens asked:
Quoting:
is the billing information supplied by using a credit card to subscribe can be deleted, with confirmation,

Our bank stores that information, as it always has, and that cannot be deleted. I'm sorry.

sempervirens also asked:
Quoting:
can another form of payment used to re-subscribe?

Yes, you can pay by snail mail (check, cash, money order, etc). If you are concerned about privacy, then this is a good choice for you. PayPal will be ready hopefully within a week.

tombaak asked:
Quoting:
Since TyTy is still in business and you are now insulated from personal lawsuits, will you replace their much deserved feedback (or at least start a fresh page for them) in the Garden Watchdog?

I really don't know. I'd rather not put my neck on the chopping block as one of my first actions of 2007... I'm not at all insulated from personal lawsuits, so this is a decision that I have to make on a personal, as well as a business, level.

Equilibrium asked:

Quoting:
Possibility in the future of being able to post small video clips if affordable from a bandwidth status. Probably not practical even with an increase in subscription rate but just thought I'd ask.

YES! We will be able to have video on DG. I was just talking to Trish about that this morning. It won't be ready for a month or two but when it's ready you will be able to upload videos to DG and share them with others. We can even make tutorial videos and so-forth. I think it's going to be great!

Quoting:
Why is the annual charge for subscription going up and the "free" access expanding? At this point it seems that members can get almost as much as I get, but I'm paying - they aren't. I don't feel that $25.00 is too much. I just don't see the incentive for members to join/pay when so much is free. I feel like I'm supporting more than I can afford.

Click on the "Garden Talk" tab at the top and you will see what appears to me to be at least half of the forums are only available to subscribers. That's not going to change (and we're even toying with the idea of limiting more of our existing forums to only subscribers).

The new tradelist system is mostly available only to subscribers.

PlantFiles still cannot be fully used by non-subscribers. You can only search 10 times a day, and you can't use the advanced search at all.

It's probable that at some point soon we will also be limiting the diaries so that only subscribers can have a diary at DG, or at least non-subscribers will have a limited diary capability.

The new tradetracker will only be available for subscribers.

So, I think there remains plenty of reasons to continue to subscribe...

Dave
