Hello, All!
I have a few bromelieads in pots -- and naturally, I want more -- and am planning to put them in the ground this spring. Most seem to be light shade plants from what I've dug up on the DG Plant Files. I'd love to see some photos of how y'all have worked them into your landscapes.
Thanks!
Michele

Wow!!!!!!!
I'm blown away! Thanks dale_a_garderner and Cearbhaill. These photos have given me something to aspire to.
I love your front yard, Cearbhaill. It's just gorgeous!
Thanks for posting more great pics, dale_a_gardener.
I got some of those "growing up the trees" broms at a round up -- I think from Fran "sendonetome" -- and put them in one of my palms. Like you said, they just latched on! No flowers -- but maybe in the spring.
Thanks again!
Michele
Just gorgeous!
I have a partly shaded, sheltered area near my front door that's surrounded by a low rock wall. I'm going to try putting the broms in that area once it warms up. Thanks again for all the great pics and advice.
Michele
How nice to see these pics! Here in Gainesville, we lost a lot of our color with the deep freeze. Thanks for posting, Dale!

Sue, I'm so jealous! I keep noticing peoples' bromeliads when I'm driving around town. There's someone on Bearss that has what I think are dyckias (I was trying to drive). I'm tempted to knock on their door and see if they want to trade. Gardeners are the most generous people I know, so maybe I should take a chance.
Your post reminded me that I need to clean the leaves and pine needles out of mine. You know, I was looking at them today, and I have oak trees growing in them! I've had a real problem with acorns falling in the middle of my bromeliads. I keep trying to dig them out because I was afraid they might block some of the water from getting in the middle of the plant (like corks in a bottle), but I never thought about them germinating and growing into trees. I had to explain to my garden that bromeliads grow on trees - not the other way around!
Thanks mellie! I did all the grooming on Sunday, and putting down of mulch...and with our little rain today...there are now tons of new oak leaves in the beds again and everywhere...i always forget when the "oakleave dropping season is"! I don't have to worry about the acorns as our overpopulation of squirrels make short work of them..i try to keep stuff out of the centers of the broms as much as possible...it is a constant battle isn't it? It is amazing how many of the little oak seedlings and others grow in Brom cups??? lol...My arms look like i have been in a cat-fight and lost!! lol...I try to squirt the hose in the centers and flush the stuff out...sometimes it works! Want some squirrels? chuckle...sue
Our squirrels are too busy jumping in the birdfeeder. I actually saw one eating an acorn the other day and it was so novel to see a squirrel doing normal, squirrel things. Everytime I go digging in the bromeliads lately I find Cuban tree frogs. So now I have to keep a rock nearby to smash them with. I hate when unexpected things come jumping out of my plants! I totally understand about the arm scratches. I'm afraid people are going to think I'm cutting myself and try to have "a talk" with me.
lol, good one Mellie!! sue
Sue, that is a GORGEOUS brom garden. The plants are beauties, and I love the way you've incorporated those rocks. Thanks so much for posting the picture.
Is that a full sun location?
Michele
I am sorry i haven't responded yet, Michele! No, it receives full am sun,,..light dappled shade in the noon, then when the sun is setting full sun again...very bright location to keep them colorful..thanks! sue
Thank you , Sue!
