Thank you, and thank you!!
Yesterday was my 44th birthday.
Wife cooked a carp for me,
saying eating a carp fish can help you
Jump over all the unhappy things in store.
She also ordered me
To eat up the fish's head and tail,
which symbols our happy life lasts endlessly.
but sorry to tell you there is no candle,
Nor chocolate cake.
I just did it in our Chinese way.
For my birthday, i also received emails
To me separately from my dear gardening friends.
They are:
roadrunner, saya, Ursula, darius, nortmartha,
Ponditis, kooger, nap and also Dave's team.
Thank them many thanks!

Aw shucks, I missed it!
Happy Belated Birthday celebration to you, Jianhua!
As for the carp, so THAT's how you eat them, steamed! With seasonings I assume.
May this coming year be good to you, and you to it.
Happy Day to you!
Shoe
Guess almost right, Horseshoe.
Wife boiled the carp in the cooking pot for an hour with spices in.
Yummy, yummy.
Today I went to my father's, and told him about my birthday.
He said: You should be very proud
to have so many international gardening friends,
such as the ones from Chile, India, the USA and the Netherlands,
to send greetings for your birthday.
I think so.
Some persons may have lots of money, but suppose they have no friends.
So what's the point of money without friends?
To think of this, I feel rather content.
Many thanks!

Jianhua,
"To be content" is the key to happiness. Yes, what is the point of money without friends? It does not score much. Kudos to your dear father for his really wise words. He should also be proud to have a son with such a beautiful outlook as you. I would think this legacy would continue in your case too. You are displaying signs for the future ahead!
29th was my wife's birthday and she prepared a simple sweet dish, comprising of coconut gratings, sugar, flour, ghee, saffron. It is then cut into square pieces.
Dinu
Oh, really? 29th was your wife's brithday.
Well, if permitted,
I would like to send her a gentleman's blowing kiss as the birthday gift.
Dinu, have you ever heard such a Chinese saying?
'For the ginger, still the oldest is the spiciest'.
My father has been living on this world for 79 years.
That bridges he walked across is even more than the roads I walked through.
So the elder's words are guide to my life.
I respect my father very much.
Jinhua, happy belated birthday my friend!!!
Thes few days I seem happier than before.
First there are so many friends sending greetings
During and even after my birthday.
Second, I adopted a new contraption.
Here is it:
Near a dustbin in our school campus,
I spotted an isolated garden plant.
It was a kale, half-dead, due to lack of water.
I took it to the teaching office,
Stripped the lower leaves,
Only kept the upper ones,
Gave to it a thorough water,
And then let it be.
Look, now, the bonsai-like kale comes back to life.
And I am so glad to save this plant;
Far glader than to get a new one.
I just found this thread - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Jianhua, and to Dinu's wife! The birthday treats sound wonderful. Jianhua, your father is a wise man. The successful person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least. Obviously, he focuses on what he has, rather than on what he doesn't have. You are a good son, and that means he has done his part in ensuring the future. The little camellia is lovely - I love camellias. Our outdoor ones are about to bloom (and some have already bloomed), despite the cold weather.
Dinu, how do you make that sweet dish? My DH loves anything with coconut! It would be a very nice Valentine's Day dessert, I think.
Cheers!
Bonnie
Jianhua,
Well done to save the plant. It is this attitude which has to be inculcated in the younger generation. Here it is a plant.. some other time, it may be any other... cat, dog...bird... humans.
Bonnie,
Thanks. I'll try to come up with a picture of the product and the recipe very soon. Some pieces are still left! This time around, it has come out very well. It was an absolute delight.
Dinu
