Hello everyone,
I hope it's OK for me to post this here,

Please help this little guy make his wish come true
Can you spare a card for Shane?
Shane is a 7 year old boy, who is at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa) battling cancer. He is trying to beat the current world record in receiving the most greeting cards. One of our local radio station is trying to help him make his wish come true.
Can you spare a card and spread the word please.
Any card will do, Shane’s birthday is May 30th so you could even send him early birthday greetings.

Carmen, your links are not working for me.
I will send a card to this sweet boy, and I'll ask my son (6) to write one also. He loves writing cards, and from one child to another, that is special.

I would hope they are not trying for the Guinness World Record for most greeting cards as that category was eliminated in the 1990's due a big problem involving another child cancer patient seeking to make that record. If you google it, you will find the story pretty easy.

I think they just want people to send birthday cards for this little fellow, and from one child to another is such a special idea indeed!

I brought up the link for you to retry (hope this is okay by you zameluzza)

It is really a lovely gesture and gives these kids a much needed boost when fighting a battle such as this. I worked at Sick Kids up until last year, for 10 yrs, in the Haematology/Oncology pharmacy satellite and was face to face with these kids everyday, making up their chemo for them. They sure are tough little cookies :o)

Here is an intersting link to ''send a sick child a card". It mentions the Book of Records too.

Having learned its lesson about Pandora's Box and dying child appeals, Guinness World Records retired the category for the most get-well cards, leaving Craig's 1992 record of 33 million unchallenged. Cards continue to flow in, though, and the latest guesstimate has it that over 200 million have been received. Years ago Craig's Shelby Road home was granted the British equivalent of its own postal code.

At one time, Guinness explained its position very clearly in the FAQ on their web site, saying of Shergold record:

This record attempt has ceased. Many years ago, a boy fighting cancer started a campaign for people to send him get-well messages in order to set a record for the most items received. Not only was that boy successful in getting a mention in the 1991 edition of the Guinness World Records book, he also made a full recovery.
THIS IS A PART OF THE ARTICLE IN THE LINK.

I am not saying NOT to send cards to this sweet boy, please do, but I'm pointing out that, indeed, the Guinness Worls Records book does not have this entry anymore.

Yes, that was the one I was referring to. They sure did open a "Pandora's Box", albeit unintentionally to that extreme.

thanks for fixing the link.
I just listen to the radio and I sure will mail Shane some cards.
the radio said something about a child once 17 years ago if I remember correctly that person still gets cards.

but eaven if they don't have that world record anymore just immagine Shane's face when he gets all these cards.
I will keep you posted on what the radio sais.
thanks

My kid is glue'ing parts of a lego catalog together to make a card, I told him this young man makes legos, just like him. That struck a nerve I think.
I will ask my 2nd graders to make notes for this brave young man tomorrow!

Awwww, that is very sweet of your son to make such a unique card Christie and a "feel good" project for a class of 2nd graders to make together.
Carmen, I'm having my 4 kiddies make cards for Shane as well! Thanks for posting Shane's story!
