Replacing www with wwm?

I caught most of this yesterday on PBS and to put it frankly it scared the living crude out of me. Speculation is one thing but the fact that its already being done is to much in my mind.

By the year 2030 the world wide web will be replaced by the world wide mind and it appears there is no stopping it.

Its a program called the 22nd century and technology has already started placing chips in the brain that connect it to computers directly. I do not fault people who want to see, hear and for the fully paralyzed to want to communicate if these things were to stop there. The creators of this technology want to go all the way and people will pay to have it done. It is being promoted as enhancements.

What are these enhancements? Business people will want them to increase their edge, total recall of every person they meet and access to any information they may need with nothing more than a thought. Including making phone calls straight from their head by just thinking about the person they want to talk to. People with disabilities, parents who want their kids to have scholastic abilities, everyone who has an implant can be as smart as Einstein. One of the examples they gave was one of the researchers had a pair of sunglasses that had the left lens as a view screen so if you meet someone all you have to do is look at them and say bio and you will have a complete read out on that person contained on the net. This is already a fact.

By the year 2030 you can have an implant done for $500 and 2 hours as an outpatient. All of this is being geared for commercial sale to the public and has already caught the attention by many as a way to get ahead in the world.

In the first episode, surgeons have implanted an electrode in an injured man's brain to allow him to communicate just by thinking about what he wants to say.

In another segment, a neurophysicist tells how he has developed bundles of wires thinner than spider webs that can be inserted into the blood vessels of human brains.

From other sources that go a little deeper the thought is to replace eyes and ears with implants that can see and hear well beyond our present capabilities. I use to laugh about the Borg on Star Trek I'm not laughing now.

Let's say it is a possiblility.
I hate to bring it up, but by 2030 the chances are we are going to be more concerned with food to eat.

Geez, sounds just like one of the topics on the show Outer Limits. Same thing, everyone had an implant but one man who couldnt get one for medical reasons. One day the entire system crashed and could not be repaired and all of a sudden this one man was the smartest person on earth, seems hes the only one who had learned to read and do other things the old fashioned way.

So when will the Enterprise be built?

My daughter and I got to talking about it and heres another selling point if you wanted to push it. Got a chip no need for a public school system. Think about that one. Supposedly the chip will have memory storage and will use part of your brain for that storage guarding against computer crashes.

Want to know what your kid is up to, track em!

But what about withdrawal from the collective if there is a system failure? Worst than cigarette addiction?

And with the heavy metals and other toxic components of the chip, you won't live long enough to care what happens.
