Show Me Your Feeders Pt. 3

DonnaB: Yes, the bunting is here now. I have seen him again today several times. I thought I was imagining things at first because we don't see them til later in spring usually (if at all). Maybe the warm winter had them fooled?

Becky: Do you have cats? Our feeders clear out whenever the neighbor's cat comes strolling by.

Darn! Went to Lowes, Home Depot and WBU and none of them carry the hanging screened Platform Feeder.
I guess all areas are different. Our WalMart doesn't carry it either.
I'm sure my regular wild bird store that I normally go to carrys them but they would be too expensive so I'm going to order one from the Ebay seller someone gave me a link to earlier.

Pelle it just may be to early in the season yet. They always have them in spring and sometimes Wal Mart

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Hopefully you'll find an inexpensive one. This one came with a plastic insert so that it can double as a hanging bird bath, I really hope our walmart gets more in, I've never seen them there before.

Pell - No dixie cups in my yard anymore. I took them all down after setting up the bird feeders.

DebinSC - There are no cats in my yard either. The fence keeps any wandering neighbor cats out.

I may try letting the squirrels get into the feeders for a couple days. I haven't decided yet. I have bulbs buried in the gardens and I know squirrels are notorious for digging them up. So I haven't decided if I want to encourage the squirrels to come explore my gardens and feeders or just wait and see for another week or so.

Thanks y'all for the words of encouragement and support! I am enjoying all your birds vicariously through the photos you each have posted here on this forum!

Becky, I have forgotten, do you have a peanut butter suet feeder? Sometimes the nutty smell will draw birds.
Wishing you birds!!...Sheila

Got so excited about the sheer number of birds this winter that I was inspired to put up a few more feeders. So yesterday I bought one like Sadie_mae's in Post #3137024 above along with some different types of feed. We have woodpeckers but I dont know what kind they are. So I grabbed some feed for them as well as some finch seed.

Here's a shot of some of our local crew.

I did the same thing, crazii, thanks to this thread. So now I have 3 new feeders to put up & 1 of every kind of bird feed they had at Petco.

Question before I hang them: Do you all put any protectant or sealant on your feeders? One of the new ones is cedar & another is just plain old pine or something.

I know theres something safe out there you can use, sorry can't think what it is right now but if someone else doesn't say what it is, then I'll go looking for it for you.
