This trail leads to what lake. (Hint - there is a very good chance you've never heard of it.)
Where Am I? - Part 9
It is west coast.
I love your hint! LOL Is it in California?
It is in California (always a pretty safe guess).
Garden6, I don't know if I'll be around when you're 80. If you're older than me, I hope that I am. Who knows what kind of system we'll have by then. Maybe 3D photos or "scratch and sniff" and I can't even imagine what kind of computers we'll have then. "Remember when we thought that cable modem was the greatest thing? That was so primitive!"
Kelli~ you're right, so many tech advances , even my pumpkins are more savvy than me with the little gameboys, video games etc...Umm BTW, I have many decades to go before I'm 80 even though the pumpkins can't believe I lived in the olden days when a family didn't have its own digital camera! Remember the dinosaur video cameras you had to lug on your shoulder! LOL!
OK,northern or southern CA?
I remember those video cameras. Do you remember the 8 mm (I think it was) home movies?
Southern CA, sort of.
Gee! You all sure did get ahead of me! Is it Lake Tahoe?
No......................................................................
Joey, hint was it was a lake we might not have heard of. It's search time again.
Forgot to ask.. Is it Hollywood Lake?

The thing I most remember about the 8mm movies was the click-click of the projector and the smell of the movie screen. It had kind of a plastic smell. I don't remember exactly when my dad stopped taking those kinds of movies but it must have been around 1975. I think mainly he just didn't like the hassle of getting out and setting up the projector and screen.
None of the above lakes. (Just some useless trivia - Soda Lake is a dry lake bed like 99.99% of the time.)
Is it in San Luis Obispo county, Kelli?
My dad used to take home movies, too. They kept breaking or burning while he was showing them, and he'd have to stop and splice them, which I'm sure he found frustrating.

It is in San Luis Obispo County. (You are starting to get a feel for where I go.)
How 'bout Lopez Lake?
No, not that one........................................................
How 'bout. . . Poison Water Pond? Sounds like a nice place
Nope. (Goodness! I never heard of that one.)
Santa Marguerita Lake?
Nope.......................................................................
Is it Oso Flaco Lake? Or Little Oso Flaco Lake?
It is Oso Flaco Lake.
There is a story behind the name. Oso Flaco is Spanish for skinny bear. Back when CA was still a Spanish colony, there were grizzly bears all over the place. (No moose.) As some Spanish guys were traveling through to Monterey or San Francisco, they went hunting for food but all they could find was this skinny bear, so they shot and ate that. They got sick and spent a couple days at the lake recovering. The reason that got sick is because the bear had been poisoned by the Chumash Indians. The bear had been causing them trouble but they couldn't kill it with their weapons so they poisoned it.
Somewhere in that general area - I think south of the lake - the movie "The Ten Commandments" was filmed. When filming was over, the movie set was buried in the sand dunes and people still find bits and pieces of it.
That's a great story, Kelli! Thanks. :-)
