Help with 14K Gold....

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Man, I can pull some really dumb stunts at times. A few months ago I was going through my jewelry box and decided to clean some of my rings. I put eight 14K gold rings in jewelry cleaner (the red jewelry cleaning solution that you can buy at department stores) and also tossed in a faux gold tennis bracelet.

Of course, I got sidetracked and forgot about them. Last week when I picked up the jar of jewelry cleaner I remembered that I had put my rings in there. Well, of course.....being in the solution with that stupid faux bracelet has now turned the real gold to an ugly oxidized brassy color. I am just sick about it and my poor DH just walks away shaking his head.

Any at home solutions? Or should I just take them to the jeweler?

Have you tried a polishing cloth? Should take it off with a few swipes...

I am a jeweler and I think you better take them to one. If you are lucky it will come off in a good strong ultrasonic cleaner, if the stones can safely go in one. However most likely everything will need to be repolished to remove the coating.

Thank you both for your input. My DH sure isn't happy with me and he's screaming for me to take them to the jeweler. So.....as soon as our Frozen Tundra thaws (which could be weeks) that's what I will do.

Thanks again!

The jeweler that I use to work for would clean jewelry in a Mr. Clean solution in an ultrasonic cleaner. You might try this until you can get them to a jeweler.

I am sick for you. I have a lot of 14 ct. gold rings because they are what I want. I would be sick if that had happened to me. Good luck with them. Let us know what happens. LIZ
