If men can join this thread...
I'm with you Rose, thought Garden4Birds was describing me and DW - almost.
We're 63 & 59 and have no intention of getting old - having too much fun.

We don't read many books, but have a lot of books we have read - read a Bunch of magazines, tho.

Love to tour wineries and breweries, old towns, some garage/yard sales, flea markets, etc. anywhere there is a road or trail, we will "see where that one goes".

We are Buyers, not shoppers, too. But we read circulars to find the best prices, so don't buy everything at the same place. Watch and check prices in stores - many times the "economy" size isn't.

Country and 50-70's rock for both - I also like classical and some jazz.

My job takes me traveling all over - love it - take DW whenever possible. Attend several German festivals every year - in Bavarian outfits.

One son 36 - one granddaughter 9.

Camped and kayaked for many years - late 70's thru 80's. Built a cedar strip canoe.

Love to grow FOOD. Supply some to our restaurant as well as eat all we can. Last year supplied 2 soul food restaurants with mustard greens. Already have offers on this year's crop of lamb's quarter, etc.

been happily married to my debbie going on 39 years. i am 63 and she is 61. we have ABSOLUTELY nothng in common. she likes to stay up very late and get up late. i go to sleep early and am up early. she likes the nightlife and i don't. she would love to go to times square on new years eve and i would not even think about it. she does not look at anything on t.v. or the movies that have voilence and i am the opposite. she loves american idol and i have never seen it. she likes her music played loud and i like my soft even though we enjoy the same type of music (oldies). she does not care for gardening and i love it.

we do, however, go everywhere together. we go grocery shopping all the time. if she has a doctor's appointment i will go with her and vice versa. we love to go on vacation to ocean city maryland and walk along the beach morning, noon and night. we both enjoy cooking and picture taking.

the thing that i think keeps us going is that i like to buy her jewelery and she loves to get it. LOL

i have known her all my life. we grew up down the block from each other. her mom is my god mother and her parents were best man and maid of honor for my parents.

maybe it was fate.

It must have been, Herbie43!!
That's a great true story - were you two 'sweet' on eachother as kids?

I love to hear how people met....my DH and I met on a 'blind date'!

Nan: Where is Soilders Grove, WI? We were on our way thru WI several yrs. ago to visit the Mall of American In Min. A wk. later we were still in WI. It is a beautiful state and there was so much to see. We went to House on the Rock in Spring Green. Thought we would be thru it in a couple of hrs. Six hrs. later, they were closing up and kicked up out. If you have never been there, GO. It is an absolutely fascinating place. So much to see that we didn't see it all and are going back next yr.

I met my husband on March 30, 1978, which was a Thurs. I was dating a guy in the Navy and the squadron he was in was going to sea on Sat. He asked me to come out to NAS Cecil Field, Jax, FL and have a drink at the Chief's Club with him and some other men who were having a going away party for a guy who was getting transferred to P'cola. I got there about 8:30, walked into the club, (where I had never been before), took one look at a man sitting between my boyfriend and another man, and knew at that moment that I was going to marry him. Six months later I did. Gives me cold chills even now to know that I came close to never meeting him, because he was the man they were having the going away party for. I saw him again on Sat. when I went back to Cecil Field to tell my boyfriend goodbye. The man was there helping supervise. I was sitting in the waiting room, and he came in and sat 2 chairs over from me and shyly asked me what had happened to my hair. Because you see, on Thurs. I had long hair. On Sat. morning I got it cut very short. We talked for a few minutes and then he asked me to have dinner with him that night. I agreed. That Sat. night I went back to Cecil Field Chief's club and had dinner with him. When I got ready to leave I discovered I had locked my keys in my car. He drove me in his truck all the way back to my house which was 13 miles away, climbed in a bedroom window and opened the front door for me. He then took me back to the base. I was so tired and sleepy by this time I asked if I could lay down with my head i his lap and take a nap. He said sure. I promptly fell asleep. When I woke up we were going past the base entrance. I thought he was up to no good. But instead, he was just going to drive around until I woke up. Knew for sure he was the man for me. And he has been for the last 28 yrs. going on 29. Thank God

My hus. is like Herbie. Early to bed and early to rise. At times I am just going to bed when he is getting up. Like to read whatever interests me, (can only read large print as I have lost a lot of vision), LOVE gardening and my greenhouse, walking thru our woods, listening to all types of music. We live in the woods and I can play my music loud. My hus. retreats to his honey house (he is a beekeeper) and listens to books on tape and I crank up the music.

Wish everyone could have a great husband like I have. LIZ

Another great story, Liz! Can't help feeling a little twinge of sympathy for 'the boyfriend' - but your knowledge at first sight that he was 'the one' is amazing!

SG is sort of 'upper southwest' Wisconsin. We're about 13 miles east of the Mississippi River, and it's about 60-70 miles south of LaCrosse. Our surrounding area is often called The Coulee Region, as there are many bluffs, hills, valleys.
Lots of hilly, curvy roads. I cross 2 rivers to get to work.

I have never been the House on the Rock, believe it or not!
My aunt used to work there, and we'd always planned to go, but never got there. We definitely plan on it one of these days, before our youngest 2 grow up!

How about your responses to Lisa's likes/dislikes?

Great stories!

DW and I met on a "double blind" date. She did not know I was coming and I did not know she was there. Arranged by some of her relatives.

ABC had just started broadcasting the Monday Night Movie, and a work associate had just purchased a 25" TV. He invited me to his house after dinner to watch the show.

About 45 minutes into the program, there was a knock on the front door. He opened it, and in walked "the most beautiful set of legs I'd ever seen" - Mini-skirt cashmere/mohair suit, and long blond hair. Instant attraction.

She on the other hand had arrived home from a hard day at a caffeteria, and her aunt insisted she take a shower, get dressed up and drive to her cousin's house for a surprise.

What she saw was a tall geek, that was not at all someone she wanted anything to do with.

When the movie was over, I walked her to her car - a 1964 Malibu SS convertible. I had owned and driven (raced) sports cars for Datsun for several years. The interest I had initially, was now in a state of disbelief. Asked for another meeting - she explained her schedule, and I said I would meet her at her house after she got home a few days later.

Went to a Sonic or equvilent drive-in restaurant for some coffee. There was beginning to be some interest on her part.

Last June we celebrated 37 years together.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I like gardening (about 400 indoor plants and who knows how many outdoors)
I love traveling and hope to do more of it when my kids get older
I love antiquing, flea markets and estate sales
I am pretty picky about food and unfortunately don't like wine (Give me a margarita)
I love to shop, but mostly for plants or things for my kids
I love to read--historical nonfiction (Civil War), crime novels, or my guilty pleasure would be the Harry Potter novels
I like alternative rock

I have 3 kids (8, 5, 4); 9 dogs; 1 cat; a guinea pig; cockatiel; and a Caledonian crested guecko (I think that's what it's called!)
