notmartha - Now that is tempting! LOL But don't you remember yearning then to be 18??
What's the best age to be?
Snipe: My hus. was in the navy for 30 yrs. He started out enlisted and became a "Mustanger" in '79. Retired as a Lt.Cdr. I once figured up all the time he was gone during our first 10 yrs. of marriage. It was roughly 6 yrs. Sometimes when people find out he is retired military they make snide remarks about his being set for life and having a great pension. As far as I am concerned he earned every penny of what he gets and he should get more. I have let several of them know that while they were enjoying their Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. he was at sea helping make sure they could enjoy these holidays. While they were getting a good nights sleep, he was working 18 or 20 hrs. without sleep. He learned to sleep and eat when he could because he never knew when he would eat or sleep again. They could have done the same thing he did. You have to work at something during your life, unless you live on welfare, and it might as well be the military. And yes, the retirement benefits are great. We just booked a cruise with Carnival Lines and they are giving military and retired military a hugh discount this yr. as their way of saying "thanks". LIZ
I didn't think I'd go back, but since you asked, I think..... 35.
Young enough to have energy, to not have middle age spread or need glasses. Old enough to have some wisdom, but still be crazy sometimes.
I'll be 50 in April and as I've said before, it's still just a number to me. I am happy to have made it this far with few troubles. But, since I know how my life goes, I would want to go back to 35 and relive it to my present age. If that's not an option, I'll just visit and return.
Luna: Exactly! Beats the alternative. :)
billyporter - You could always wait until the end and come back! Mwahahahaha.
I am 31, and the best age for me has been; 30,29,28,27,26,25,24,23,22,21,20,19,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2, but Idon't remember 1!
:-))))))))))))) Why not?????
I love turning 65 this year..........when the kids left for college (each a year apart) I thought I was going to 'break down'..............one a year leaving for three straight years. I did find a new life after all!! I am happier than I have ever been in my life...........almost feel like i don't deserve to be this settled and happy....love the kids and grandchildren, but this is the LIFE!! Gardening, prison ministry and growing crops for the prison ministry retreats IS my life..............go to bed when I want and get up when I want. Giving aways flowers to the elderly just makes my day better. I have a new big tiller which I work and then sleep very well.....can't get any better except grow a year older....what a fun topic.
And what a fun answer! You sound like you couldn't be any happier, and I'm happy for you!
bettygail, i think half of it's attitude and yours is GREAT! no wonder you love your life.
sorry i missed this thread. i am 63 now and getting ready for retirement. have to grown but still unmarried boys. one lives in philly and the other is close to home with me and my dw.
i was stationed in italy for the whole four years i served in the navy. from 1962 till 1966. i was stationed in the communications seter for comfairmed (commander fleet air med) i was also the admirals person radioman.
i have been all over europe ;lus australia, denmark, england.
with some friends we drove up to the top of vesuvious in a vw beetle. we went all over with that car. if you ever went into downtown naples ou might have gone to a bar called the
heinegan II. the nbr one was up on the hill overling the bay.. we hated it when the fleet would come in cause the price of a drink went up until the fleet left. LOL
went to capril a few times. though the beach was rocked instead of hving sand. didn't mind the tradition of everyone changing into their sutis right there on the beach.
those were wild and good years but they didn't become perfect until i married my wife who by the way grew up down the block from me in brooklyn.
whatever age i am currently is the best one for me. i'm just thankful to reach the next one.
Herbie, I enjoyed your post because it sounded familiar to me. My husband was in the army from 1966 till 1969. We married in 1967. He was sent overseas to Baumholder, Germany, and as we were married by then, I got to go too. We were newlyweds.
What a honeymoon we had! Almost two years of travelling through Europe! Loved Bavaria. Loved Rome. Loved Nice, France, but as you said, the rock beaches were very difficult to maneuvre. The locals "ran" to the shore. I hobbled. But the water was crystal clear and warm. It was great. Loved London too. And we loved the small town we lived in (off base) and the friendly German locals who wanted to hang out with the Americans.
Thanks for bringing back some happy memories to me.
