one of my most favorite Migrants
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Breathtaking!!!! Gorgeous bird and what wonderful photos you have taken, Donna!
these were taken right out my bathroom window of my old home
BEAUTIFUL!!!! Thanks so much for posting these Donna!
These guys sing as pretty as they look, too!
Sweet compositions with the scarlet blooms Donna! Hear Hear! :)
Haven't seen these guys here...
~Amy
I'll have to keep an eye out for them in summer.
Look in the tops of tall trees, they seem to like to hold watch in the late afternoon and sing.
Donna B these are wonderful photos! I have never seen one and really hope to some day. I'm green with envy!
Really nice pic Linth! These guys are so interesting, they must look great flying past at eye level.
I've only seen one in my area, and at that time I didn't have a digital ...how lucky you are to have these birds and get pictures of them. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Donna, great shots of one of the most gorgeous birds. They come through in summer and they nest in the area but not here. Boy would I love to see a black headed grosbeak!! Thanks for your quick photo, Melanie!
And I would love to see a Rose Breasted Grosbeak - lol!!!! We have the Black Headed variety around quite a bit (not this time of the year, though) and occasionally the Evening Grosbeak during migration.
I guess the grass is always greener.....
I would love to see any sort of grosbeaks....lol Quite rare here, methinks.... :)
Melanie
Do you have crossbills there? I once saw them in AZ. I looked up and saw the profile of their beaks above me and blurted out "crossbills". Never have seen them again, even in AZ.
Beautiful pictures! I have seen exactly one Rose Brested on my feeder, last year. No pic.
my very first experience of seeing them was 6 males and 6 females that stayed for 2 weeks. I had no idea what they were and was totally in awe. I was a newbie Birdwatcher lol
Linthicum, that is a wonderful grosbeak and I can see why you would confuse him with an Indigo Bunting (esp. headwise). What is its habitat? (Not home to look it up.) Years ago (20!) I planted grass seed in my yard and when I looked out the small yard was covered with Evening Grosbeaks! Wow. I couldn't decide whether to just watch them or save my seed. I think I waited a while, got my fill, and walked out to set the flock on the wing. And I haven't seen them here since. I guess I REALLY must have scared them. LOL.

lol boojum...
Beautiful photos.....! I know Texas has alot of migrants moving thru during the season....and odd species are beginning to cross the border from northern Mexico (i.e. Green Jays), I just wish they would linger a bit longer for me to get a photo...lol
Melanie
Last year I thought I would finally get to TX to go birding but then it fell through. I've got to get there sometime. As you've reminded me, you have so many interesting birds.
lol boojum....I miss the birds in MA when I lived in Acton! I couldn't believe the different species up there. I had never seen nesting robins before, tho they migrate thu here in the Winter...and don't get me started on Eastern Bluebirds! What lovelies... :) Alot of birders do indeed flock here (no pun intended :) in the Spring...especially along the coast and near the border of Mexico. They see some really unusual birds of tropical origins in the Rio Grande Valley. You should get down here sometime... :)
Melanie
Gorgeous birdie Donna!
Great pics yall!!
We only get to see the Rose Breasted Grosbeak, if we're lucky, during the Spring and/or Fall migrations. Would love to have them here year round! Every time I see the male or the female, I get speechless, excited and in awe!
They stop for the sunflower seeds and I try to keep the feeders filled with lots of those seeds during that time, in hopes they'll grace us with their appearances.
I haven't gotten any photos in my yard yet, but DH took this one at the Suncoast Seabird Santuary while we were on vacation last January in FL.
Edited to add...... that we don't have any variety of Grosbeaks here and haven't seen any except the Rose Breasted one.
Thanks for sharing all your pics!

Great photos everyone!!!
Marilyn a trick I figured out is if you have to take a pic through a cage put your lens against the cage and focus. the cage will disappear so how lol
Thanks Donna!
I have 4 that have been here for a week now. 3 males and 1 female. Probably leave in a few days now that these fronts have past
Donna what a wonderful pictures! We get the Blue Grosebeak but I keep praying for a sighting of the Rose. I wil lhave ot make do with the Paitned Buntings. We have 2 pairs this year my niehbor and I am so thrilled. Now if I can just get some decent picutes of them. The screen shows through in the ones he sits still for. I am hoping he will get more used to me out there this year. The females are felaxing more now with me out there.

I believe I had a quick glance at the female Rose Breasted Grosbeak yesterday. Have yet seen the colorful male this season. I'm looking "UP" on tree top and hoping. Those are great pics. DonnaB.
Kim
Welp I guess I will have to enjoy them through you guys photos. I have never seen one...so thanks for sharing.
I usually get a pair of RB Grosbeaks each year migrating thru in early May. This year they arrived on May 8th, ended up seeing four pair. They will usually hang around about ten days. Orioles visited this year for the first time also, two pairs of Baltimore, and one day I spotted an Orchard. (Independence Mo)
