yes DuckMother I always look when I hear the Blue Jays rasing a ruckous.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I'm trying to catch up as I've been away from my computer for a couple days or so - great photos and great stories!!! Pelletory, I will look for some Stellar's Jay photos - I'm sure I have some somewhere. If not, I'll see if I can get one soon.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

There's a stray cat that sometimes hides in my yard, stalking the birds.
If I hear the jays & squirrels sending out the alarm, I know the cat is around somewhere.
The squirrels will be up in the tree watching me shoo the cat. I can almost hear them applauding. LOL!

When the cat is out of sight, the squirrels come back, followed by the birds.
All is at peace... until the next time.

We have a couple of feral cats that basically live on our porch. They never look at or make a move on the wild birds which are only 3 feet away.

You're lucky, trois.
Last year I found a bunch of tail feathers on the ground. A couple of days later I spotted a tail-less mourning dove on my platform feeder.

When I started preparing my yard for spring I found the remnants of a poor bird that didn't get away.

I don't want to stop feeding the birds. But I hate the thought that in setting up a buffet for the birds, I'm also setting up one for the cat.

Yes, we are lucky. We do have several hawks that case the feeder every day, but so far no catches that we know of.

They can get a bit picky if not really hungery.
