Our 'ancestors' on a heritage building

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

For these, our 'ancestors', they are favourite spots to spend their day. They have lovely cornices to walk about, without fear. They are so beautifully constructed.

This is in fact the Lalith Mahal Palace. It is a 5-star hotel where we have most of the foreign tourists visiting Mysore stay here and enjoy the heritage building which was formerly a Palace belonging to the Mysore Kings. This is about 85 years old. I had been there last week to take a few shots of the building and thereabouts. I was not allowed inside the building, as expected.

Another rhesus monkey, an elderly fellow, rests on the parapet on the portico.

This is the full view of the Palace as I entered through the gate to its right. Immediately, I noticed my ancestors already busy in search of food. They are life members!

There are 3 doors at the front verandah. I had taken my DD with me that morning as she had holidays and the New Year was just 3 days away. They had decorated this tree in front of the main door. Above it is the Royal Insignia - the mythological bird. The royal dressing table is such a beauty, kept on display. There was one on the other side too, similar. Since my 'ancestors' are not allowed in (nor me!) the mirrors are safe. There was no guard, but some attendant asked me not to enter.

The sun had risen behind the building. My ancestors were enjoying the shade in the front.

Two birds fly past the beautiful dome.

There are two fountains in the front yard. When my ancestors come down, they might have a drink here or from one of the taps that the gardener has closeby.

This palace is on the foot of the Hill. We took the road leading to the hill to some distance to have a look at this palace. My ancestors were not seen from here, but there are many that populate the hill. They know where they get the food. The upward gradient was just beginning.

The above shot is by my DD and all the others that follow hereon. She was my pillion rider.

We turned back after going just a mile before the gradient steepened. This is the part of the hill. The sun was rising higher to shine through the leaves and branches and breakfast was getting ready at home.

On the way back, this ground where Traffic Policemen had just finished a 'march past', is adjacent to the Race Course and the Golf Course. Look at the full view of the Hill.

The Race Course. Could not go nearer as it was fenced.

The entrance to the Race Course facing the road on the other side. That is the bust of King Chamarajendra Wadiyar who constructed it about 110 years ago. The two gates are on both sides of the bust. This too is a shot by DD.
