Am I bad or what?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

My youngest son just got in from the drilling rig and we had Christmas last night over here. This year my wifes side of the family drew names as for gift giving since there are some many of us. Well the three biggest scrooges in the bunch drew each others names me and my two sons. As it happens I drew my youngest sons name who just happened to have given me a home do it yourselfers tool kit last year, as this was a gift from my son this meant a lot to me but the gift itself did not. I was a professional industrial mechanic so in a word I'm picky about the tools I use, so I put the gift away and forgot about it. Well this year rolls around and Robin asked me what I got for my son and out comes the tool box, she was not happy but I know my sons well and Brennen has a short term memory I'm afraid and I know this. Gift is wrapped and given and sure enough Brennen does not remember having ever given it to me and he was ecstatic over the gift as I thought he would be, he has always given me things that he really wanted for himself. My son has a simple straight forward soul but a very loving one as I have always known. Choosing a gift for this son has always been hard so I took the path of least resistance. Probably shouldn't have done what I did but he was thrilled to death with what he got.

A happy recipient! What more could you ask for?

snipe, I think that is great! I have often given a gift of something I would love to have, but didn't feel like spending the money on myself. If he did say "hey, didn't I get you one of these" I would probably say "yes, and I like it so much that I got you one".

Thanks for that answer hmstyl I've been wondering what to say if he ever remembers that he gave me that thing. You've saved my hide for sure!

I think that was a swell idea! And drawing names is much easier than buying for all. I've heard of keeping a "gift shelf" of unwanted gifts that you can later re-gift.

Sneaking in here, I am guilty of "regifting" too. I have friends who give me the nicest, but wierdest gifts, and I gladly pass them along to people who do appreciate them. I have so much "stuff" that collecting more is not an option.

I like the answer "I liked it so much I got you one too", so be guilt free, and enjoy the joy of giving.
