Have sat on my backside all day watching the Ford funeral. Later this afternoon, I am going downtown GR to see if I can view the casket. I was surprised to see how strict they are...no cameras, no cell phones, no purses...But they are having concessions set up inside a big hotel for the people standing in line. Our home is on the flight path landing area of the airport, so we get a bird's eye view of planes coming in. Our binnocculars are all set!!
I need to get out my garden journal and see when I started my petunias last year. They did wonderfully and I want to start even more this year. I collected a ton of wave seeds. I bought some seed last year and they were mighty price for just a few.
Doesn't this weather make you shake your head. Seems like the south western states are getting all our snow. Fine by me, I just want spring!!
Hi everyone...today was great...at the bottom of the mitten...The sun shined..all day...and it was really nice..got to 50 too....The news says better tomorrow...I will take it for sure..I know the yard is confused...we have PrimeRoses are blooming.heheheh...crazy mixed up..things..Course I have seen them bloom in the snow too...One of my favorite plants...lol...Enjoy it...hope it lasts...hehehe....
Sending smiles..think Spring..hehe...
Diana
Hello to you all, Well Dori, dh is going to finish my closet today :o) can hardly wait for it to get done, I will be winter sowing here with in the next couple of weeks. not sure what all I am going to WS but I am going to be trying it for the first time this year... I already have a few different tree seeds started and in the fridge. dh thinks I've gone and lost my head putting (what he calls) dirt in my fridge lol... I know the weather is still to warm to put them out side yet :(
I have cleome seeds and columbine that I want to get started and a few others, these I may start this week and stick them in the fridge to rofl... I keep this up and I won't have room for anything else rofl... But Ken is already making suggestions on where to store my seeds lol
I received 3 yellow peony tree seeds in the mail and was wondering if I need to soak those and put them in the fridge now...
Aleta I have always like gnomes and faries and wanted some for the yard, but the cost are so high, I will have to check out the pottery place in Erie and see about getting the stuff for making my own. :o) Forgot all about that place. They use to have alot different things in there...
That would be a good project for me to do while waiting til spring gets here :o)
Diana my lilac bushes have buds on them and a few of the other plants too, plus some of my seeds are starting to grow... and dh's roses have buds again. Our weather really has everything confused :o)
Connie
I did go down to pay tribute to President Ford last night- waited in line for 3 hrs until friend I was with fainted!! Shortened out wait by at least 2 hrs tho!! She recovered and we muscled our way to the outdoors and went on to walk by the casket. I have never experienced so many thousands of people in one area in my life!!
Today I'm going back to the workout joint and get the kinks out of my body...things are really hurting and I suspect it is because I am not back in my routine. But today is the day!!
Sunrise is about to happen and it looks to be beautiful here (of course with clouds rolling in this afternoon tho) I still need to deal with the aphids before I start any seeds...no sense having those darn things infect more!!
Jan 3rd 2007
The sun beat me out of bed today-slept in and it felt great!
I just ran the mail out and its still brisk! They say in the 50s again today and Im going to head out to my GH to see how warm it is in there! Maybe clean up since it a MESS!!!
Sue they interviewed a lady named susan at the memorial and I said to the family maybe thats my friend Sue she was going to GR to see Prez Ford. He lived a long life and Id say he was a great Prez!
Aphids-ewwwww what a pain in the butt! I know i will have to deal with fungus gnats over the winter(ha ha)months, I did get 3 sundews and 2 pitcher plants I plan to set by my seedlings.
I joined a yahoo co-op group and have to see what plants I want and then what ones i really NEED! ;)
I have flowers blooming in the house today. :)
Aleta sounds like you did good shopping! I never even went out!
It is time to check the dumpsters-lol-they toss all the stuff from Christmas out
I need to get over to warmbier farms and get me the 2 gnomes i want! then i will have to paint them!
I want them for the newest hosta bed!
I may even have to make a NEW hosta bed for my hosta orders already! someone stop me!
well first thing-im off to the shower-will check in off and on till the boyz get up and take over my puter!!
dori - where is the yahoo co-op?? Man, I've missed something!!!!
dmailed you
Sarv, I was wondering if I knew anyone that went to see Pres. Ford. I kept hearing about the long lines , but never heard how long the wait was. Burrrr! I heard there were kids in line also.
If I hadn't had to work yesterday I would have kept the kids out of school for the day and gone over to GR also.
Well, I broke one of my New Year resolutions already ... only one cup of coffee a day went right out the window yesterday. LOL
Morning everyone- woke with a pounding headache- usually means a weather change here!!
too - there were tons of kids there- and loads of boyscouts and girlscouts...a fitting tribute to a great guy. I spent the entire day watching the proceedings yesterday. DH and I were outside for a bit and saw the jets with the missing plane fly over...oh it gave me the chills.
I need to attack the aphid problem today. I'm washing every plant off in the sink. I've done this before and they just return...obviously eggs still there. I've also put down some powerful insecticide, but that didn't seem to kill them either.
I'm starved and am trying to talk myself out of running to McD for a breakfast burrito....
Well the first day of this day looks good..I hope it passes us by...it is 38 and sunny here..this morning..Thursday. but we know that Michigan can change in a flash...Yep watch the Pres..Ford thing on tv too...lots of people for sure.
Have a great day all.....waving from bottom edge of the mitten.
Smiles..Diana
Just got home and am sitting in my lazyboy thinking about what I should be doing. I really want to go to the mall and get a nice gardening calendar...but I'm too lazy to drive there...probably because I would buy something more that I don't need!!
Still haven't tackled the aphid problem...probably the only thing to do is to throw out everything, but the gardener in my is rebelling...
Off to get a cookie and think about life..
Did laundry and hung out on the line ,today .50 and cloudy out
. Started to paint my gnomes. I buy them in bisque and use patio paints. I seal them with a uv protection. had some for over 15 years, and they still look good.
I also been making mirror suncatchers. I found some at the dollar store and said I could do that . I make mine with glass beads and real nice plastic ones. I have them from about 1ft to about 2ft. At night it looks like cars coming in the drive.
Been looking thru the seed catalogs, and drooooooling!
Did get some housework done in between. But, really its to nice out to be inside.
Better enjoy it while we can . Rain coming friday night.....
Aleta
It's already trying to rain here.
Cable guy is coming tomorrow to put my other line in tomorrow and looks like he will be doing it in the rain... Thats what he gets for not doing the job right the first time...
Well I got all the shelves stained for my kitchen closet, and dh went to set the lower ones in and the thing was a half inch to tall. geesh lol... He keeps saying I can't believe I looked at that tape measure wrong roflmbo.... Well he had to cut part of it off and it fits now, but now I have the mess to clean up :(
Connie
It started raining around 5pm last night, rained all through the night. Just went out to start the car and it has stopped, but the sidewalk is still wet.
Feels like a wet warm day again today.
I've been doing well with my 'eating less' and exercise, except last night ... had to help the son and daughter with TONS of homework.
Aleta, I would love to see a picture of a completed suncatcher.
TGIF, I have the weekend off and I need it this week ... :o)
sharon
rained cats and dogs here last night....but nothing this morning other than some fluffy gray clouds that are moving quickly across the sky. Sure would be nice if they would clear out and the sun would peak out!
DH and I need to drive over to Muskegon to check out a campground for our big camping gala this summer. Everyone really wants to get into Ludington, but it is always filled. My only concern is that the campground is closed and we can't get in to scope out some spots. Guess we'll just have to try it.
Anyone start their petunia seeds yet? I'm thinking it's about time for me to get them into some seed starter.
Anyone having problems with their bulbs popping up??I've been trying to cover them with more compost, but after the rains all the soil is washed away..
I have a few pots of petunias going outside & wait till Feb...to do them in my house..Its always worked for me doing them that way...How do you do yours Sue??
It's 54 degrees here now, just saw a girl jogging in shorts and a tank top, unbelieveable for Jan 5
Paul
Hehehe...yes Paul....hahah I am sure you noticed..hahaha...kidding..only 48 here...kind of cloudy..glad the rain stopped..Paul..my cutting the leaf..wilted...going to keep trying though...warm in the sun room...maybe it was too warm...what do you think?......smiles..
Diana
Dem, I wet down the seed starting stuff and sprinkle them on top. Last year I only had ten seeds, so I very carefully placed each seed. It really did work much better than just tossing those tiny seeds in a heap. I had 100% germination!!
Hey Sarv, thanks for the heads up on the petunia seed. I got some I've saved from deep purple each year, and just a few of a pink wave petunia. Hope the Wave Petunia seeds germinate. I usually don't start these till Feb. but then they are on the small side when I plant them out.
Always wondering how early people start their seeds, so Everyone keep me informed of what you are starting. Maybe I will start earlier than I usually do.
Sharon
DianaI'm puzzeled, usually once they start to show leaves they will do ok.
It didn't dry out did it.
You have other don't you?
Paul
Paul....well I think it did..dry out a little..I do have another..but it has not gotten any leaves yet...put them in at the same time...I know...I guess they are not forgiving? Maybe so...I am sick about it...dumb me..for sure..but I am not giving up...Jianhua said..maybe it is just taking a rest..till spring? It came so far...traveled for ten days..till it got here...dear me...smiles..Diana
I've done that with other cuttings, I let them dry out, thats the kiss of death.
I lost a pssion vine cutting that way,
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the other one.
Paul
I'm posting a picture of the Paperwhites that Diana sent me as part of my Christmas Present. They are soooo pretty and dainty .... Love them!!
The Amaryllis is in the picture just cause they are next to eachother on the table. Hard to see, but it has a red edge. It is infested with the gnats so I have to keep it away from my other plants. I am going to redo the soil as soon as it is done blooming.
Or should I do that now?
brrrr. a heavy coating of frost is on the ground here today. They are saying snow tonight and perhaps an ice thingy next weekend. But we all know in Michigan....that can change in a second!!
Today we need to take water off the pool cover. The water is nearly up to the top of the pool and will pop off the tiles that rim the pool. DH went out and bought a submersible pump yesterday to try out....we'll see if it works!!
We have three bluebirds hanging around this winter. I see them going in and out of a nesting box, but when I checked there was no nesting materials in the box. Wonder where they sleep?
Got up yesterday to a light dusting of snow on the ground, so it helped to put me in the mood to start my WSing, I got 20 -1/2 gal jugs of Aquilegia/Columbine sowed and still have 16 more of those to go. And that is just starting with the A's :o) lol and lots more to go...
After filling the jugs with the soil, I think I put to much water in them, cause I had to let them drain for quite a while b4 applying the seeds :( But I will get the hang of it ;-} I am determined too. rofl
Happy Gardening
Connie
Yikes...60 in the house when I woke up...cranked up the furnace -pronto!! Snowed off and on all day yesterday with a nasty west wind....brrr Seems like winter is back.
I'm going shopping and out to lunch with friends today...and I see our local garden center has their potting soil on sale...need some of that too!

I have been out of it this week-first we did the watervillage vacation came home went to grayling the next day to visit my sister.
