We have a pair of cardinals nesting in the foundation planting, only about 30 inches off the ground. Very disconcerting when one flies out of the bush, when you are not expecting it. They like to splash in my fountain which is next to my front door. They have been singing up a storm, loud enough to hear in the house.
One of Americas' Favorite Birds
All I can say is "wow!" Not particularly eloquent, but sure says how I feel when I see these amazing birds and photos!!

I am really enjoying all of your cardinal pics. I can't seem to master the camera well enough to get a decent shot of ours--but we had seventeen at one time or near at our feeders yesterday. Their visits really brighten the dull landscapes for us.
I have been googling cardinal info and came across the Pyrrhuloxia (Cardinalis sinuatus), a cousin of the Northern Cardinal, which makes the Southwestern United States home. Does anyone have them visiting their feeders? Just wondering... I have never seen one, but would like to...

I have never seen one either.
Me neither but I'd like to... neat little guys...
They look like they have a rash on their bellies!! LOL! God does have a wild imagination!
Nice pics Marilyn!
Nice pics! What are the 3 smaller birds?
House Sparrows
I honestly don't think there's anything as beautiful as a Cardinal - sure wish they would move into my part of the country! The closest we have to red is the House Finch - but the red doesn't even begin to compare!
But we don't have Steller Jays.
So I guess the Cardinals ball team will never move to WA? LOL!
Sorry it is early and my thoughts are silly this morning.
Sheila, that was hilarious!!! My mind would never come up with something so clever at such a disgusting hour!!! The Bluejays would never move here either, unless we changed their name to the Steller Jays!!
(Edited on the 28th to change "Stellar Jays" to "Steller Jays" and "clover" to "clever." Hate it when I see typos a couple weeks later . . . once a secretary, always a secretary I guess!!!!!!)

Amazes me to see a Cardinal on a cactus - I guess in my mind I associate them with snow!! What a delight - and he shows up magnificently perched there.
Great pix on the cactus! I have never seen that.
They sure do make a mess all right.
