Welcome Seandor. You will like it here.
Favorite gardening Christmas gift
Even more than the Northwest huh?
Al - you are SO mean!
I'm like a surly elephant.
OK - I'll bite.
ouch! elephants never forget - alledgedly.
pirl, not sure what you mean about the thyme
Al - did you hear about the baby elephant who was nipped by a turtle. Years later the baby was a big momma, went down to the old watering hole, saw the turtle and stomped it. Big momma's elephant friend was aghast and said, "Why did you do such a terrible thing? That turtle never hurt you!" and the big momma said, "When I was young that turtle bit me". The other elephant said, "That's amazing - how can you remember that?" and Big Momma replied: I HAVE TURTLE RECALL.
Gram - take a strand that shows green leaves. Strip off a few center leaves and bury that portion of the thyme strand and it will form a new plant.
Turtle Recall you say ;)
Gram, tues. would be fine and yes I had a wonderful X-mas. They (kids) roll their eyes but they get me what I want in the end. You know that saying, something about "Mom being happy,,,," lol
Al, I was hoping you'd like it.
(I was gardening today for six hours!)

not me!
did go down to the lake and watch birds
thanks for the tip on the layering, pirl. I get it now :0) LOL @ turtle recall
al, did you see anything interesting?
I spent the whole day today packing up Christmas. takes me a while. and I'm still waiting for some after-Christmas-sale ornaments to come in the mail. not done yet, but I made a good dent in it.
gram - do you collect specialty items? Snowmen, stars, snow globes, etc.
Pirl, the elephant story was too funny!! I also do embroider with my sewing machine and while I am letting my weeds rest up for next year I think I will have to go through my embroidery patterns and find an elephant and turtle. :)
Funny!
My favorite cartoon of all time is two Rhinos, standing in water up to their necks and one says to the other, "I can't believe it's Thursday already". Even typing it out makes me laugh. I know, I'm easily pleased.
No ice? You must be sweltering.
oh yeah, that lake really only freezes solid for about a month of the winter and it was about 6" thick a month go. Back in to the 30's now here.
pirl - is that a Noah's Ark cartoon? because if it's not - I don't get it! slow or dense - take your pick
I fear I can't post the long and hilariously funny genie joke that has the word s_x in it I received today - a friend sent me a real doozy
But until I get that cleared, here's a good Christian joke from Alabama.
Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook venison steak. But, all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic--and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest.
The Priest came to visit Bubba and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass---and the Priest sprinkled holy water over him and said, "You were born a Baptist and raised as a Baptist but now you are Catholic."
Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors.
As the Priest rushed into Bubba's yard, clutching a rosary, and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you are a catfish....
pirl, I collect ornaments...all kinds, from cartoon characters to Lenox china. I had over a dozen trees (all sizes) decorated this year. if you're interested, some of them are posted here

al, I know what you mean about the birds. I see very few except for the Canada geese. I should fill my feeders and see what drifts in.
edit to add: alyrics, LOL..we cross-posted.

Wow, gram! You really are talented.
Alyrics - enjoyed your joke.
The one about the hippos - why should they care (and how could they care) if it was Thursday or any other day?
Aly, DH Loved that one as he is a big venision fan and I was brought up Catholic! LOL
Very cute joke!
Pirl, I liked the hippo joke!
Thanks, Dave. I keep telling my daughter I'd love a drawing of it but she doesn't think of it as a gift - I do! So many Thursdays Jack and I will look at each other and say, "I can't believe it's Thursday already" and laugh. Thankfully, we usually say it in the privacy of our home.
My wife bought me a lot of new garden tools I sorely needed.
Aside from Godiva my favorite gifts are always for the garden in some way so I'm glad you needed what you were given. It makes gardening even more fun.
hi pirle
My favorite gift was a lovely cattlaya orchid .It has had two large fragrant blooms since . I didn't get the camera I hoped for but money gift will help.I haven't been well as I told you. Each time I saw the Dr he found another problem.I Feel I'm really on the mend now The psurisis ialmost cleared up .Just the fingernails falling off and I Have another week of antibiotics for the brongcitis. I've always been so healthy I don't know How to spell all my ailments.I admire your industry in the garden. You'll have good start on the spring chores when the warm weather comes.I feel as af I know you so much better after reading you post in the diff forumns. We really had such a short visit.I have spent a lot of time lurking while I was laid up.Please keep in touch .Happy new year. Joy
Let's hope the gift of good health will be yours this year, Joy.
Hi, Joy. It's good that you've always been healthy. You'll probably throw off the things that are bothering you now. A beautiful orchid always cheers me up! And isn't pirlie just the best?? gram
Pirlie is in a blue mood with all this nasty and cold supposed 45 degree weather. Last Sunday I gardened in 45 degrees for six hours. Today I barely got in my mandatory 15 or 20 minutes and near froze! Gardening in a raincoat is far from thrilling but it does keep the neighbors away.....far away.
I'm sorry pirl, but you did know it wasn't going to stay nice all winter, didn't you? what can we do to cheer you up? first day of spring is only 65 days :0)
I would like to add my Xmas present here.
It is already posted on DG`s so I will Just post a link.
So I don`t Double up on the Pictures. Kell

ginger - the riding mower or the dog? Both are terrific and of course they count!
Thanks, gram. That means 64 days until Charlie turns a year old. My how time flies!
Kell, I buzzed thru that thread and have to say the crocheted tablecloth is just lovely. what a treasure! I crochet, but haven't had the patience to make anything like that. I do have one that my great-grandmother made for my aunt. by the time I came along she wasn't doing that kind of fine work anymore, but she was still braiding rugs and I have several of those, too.
btw, nice mower. but I doubt it will ever be a family heirloom LOL
Thanks grampapa,
Since I got it, I have increased the front lawn area by 60%
It is just magic.
gram - I have all my mother's crocheted pieces, too, and one from DH's mother.
ginger - why would you want to increase the size of the front lawn? I could see increasing the size of flower beds but the lawn?
Ginger, Nice Dingo!
why would you want to increase the size of the front lawn? I could see increasing the size of flower beds but the lawn?
The front paddock had 4acres of flat land,
but only 2 acres of that was mowed .
The rest was covered with thick grass next to the creek.
We already have 2 acres or gardens around the house,
Thats enough for me to look after.
