Hi, My dryer is done. I am so tired of repairing it, and it is squeaking so terribly. We are going to move it upstairs, as well the washer where I am used to it being with our old home. Geesh, once you have your washer and dryer near the bedrooms you never want to go back to having them in the basement!!
My question is this: We have always had a gas dryer. Now we are not sure gas is as efficient as it used to be, and of course with such an old dryer, we have to take that into consideration as well.
I have a contractor husband, and two little ones,, so I do a lot of laundry. Can you please tell me your preference? There is a big sale at hh. gregg tomorrow ending and thought I could get some advice. Thanks so much, flowerlou
HELP quick please:) Gas or Electric???? South west Ohio
i always had gas had to change to electric about 6 yrs ago love it better..
We've had both and it doesn't make any difference to me!! Lots of help that is!
Hope I'm not too late to put my two cents in.
Gas is your better bet hands down. :-)

Hi,, thanks to everyone so far... please keep 'em coming, I think I might purchase today or this weekend now. Thanks so much, FL
Hello Flowerlou,
Since you already have a gas line, it would be better if you
stuck with gas. Electric dryers do run more, but most people
resist the transition to gas if there is not an existing gas line because
the money you save using a gas dryer will happen over time,
not overnight. But because you already have the line installed, you
will already be saving money by choosing to continue using gas.
I found some good reading for you:
Electric vs. gas clothes dryers
http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/dryers.html
If you visit this webpage and scroll down, you will find that
gas runs on the average of 30 cents per load, while electric
runs 39 cents. Sure, a dime isn't much, but load after load
after load, why pay more?
:-) Just trying to help.
Wuvie, thanks for the info. The thing is we are moving the location of washer and dryer. So if we go gas, will have to move gas line. So??? Not sure what to do. I will look at the link you gave and also have Dh study it. Thanks so much for taking the time to help. With two kiddos and a contractor husband , I do a LOT of laundry. UGH

'Howdy' flowerlou ..
In consideration of your 'moving' the location: so, (similar to what WUVIE has mentioned already) you may will hafta run a 220 electric line for an electric dryer also, unless it's already wired in the spot! (Since more individual units are 220, than 110).
So, it seems that you've got the wonderful option of choosing what/which you'd prefer.
My best to you, in choosing the brands/models, tho' .. for there's quite a few out there, these days! Have fun shoppin' about ..
And, Happy New Year!!

Well dang Magpie, your no help at all, lol!
do you have a preference? I need clean, good drying quick and well to just feel comfortable with a choice.
I suppose it is what you are used to?
Happy New Year to you!
and to all the wonderful people here,, I wish you all a happy, healthy , and great gardening year!!!!!

Altho' we have had & used a gas dryer, however - for the last 30+ years, it's been an electric dryer. And since you've still gotta have electricity to turn the drum to tumble the clothes ... Go figger! .. (heehee)
Whirlpool actually manufacturers a slew of many of the 'brands' anyway .. but, I still hanker towards the Whirlpool brand. With Frigidaire & some others; you're paying the extra for the 'name' .. but there are some subtle differences in the quality expected. There are threads elsewhere here on DG, where folks have been touting the new LG(?) and Bosch(?) brands also ..
Just don't rule out doin' a bit of research using Consumer Reports and other similar magazines and/or web sites ..
Ex: http://www.consumersearch.com/www/house_and_home/clothes-dryer-reviews/reviews.html .. and .. * http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/appliances/clothes-dryers/reports/index.htm?EXTKEY=S145A80&CMP=KNC-CROGA&HBX_PK=compare_clothes_dryers&HBX_OU=50&source=DG
* a subscription and/or registration may be required.
(and hope the loooooong link functions correctly!)
More wonderful tidbits here, also > http://www.mysimon.com/Consumer-Reports-Clothes-Dryers/4002-9375-5076958.html .. and .. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/appliances/clothes-dryers/reports/how-to-choose/index.htm .. and .. http://www.superhomeideas.com/x/cobranding/clothes-dryer.html

We had electric driers for many years, only because gas wasn't available. My preference is for a gas drier. Why ? I really can't give a statistical comparison, but just like gas better. If you have to run either gas or electric lines to the new location you might look at the cost and ease of installation. Most electric panels have room to add a double breaker for the required 220 circuit.
