"Hi Dave...Elena tells me that she is having problems logging into DG....can you help her? I sure miss her and her wisdom.....and I know she is heart sick not to be able to get on this site. Thanks...Jo"
Elena
I sent some instructions a few days ago via another member who contacted me for help. She should try those things I sent.
Also, tell her to try going to king.davesgarden.com or lion.davesgarden.com and see if maybe those will work. It sounds like something is afoot here (maybe somebody is blocking her via her computer or her ISP) but it's not on our side... I'm at a true loss.

Hey, Dave, I am having problems too today. I have it bookmarked and in my "favorites" but I get a message, page not found. So for today, I have been using MSN, type in daves garden, plant files, and can get to the forums from there, but cannot bring up the home page at all. Are your suggestions for me the same as to others, as listed above?
Once after I upgraded my Norton's Antivirus I had trouble getting into lots of sites. I can't remember which version of Norton's it was, because I got rid of it right away because of the problems, but I'm thinking Norton's Internet Security or something like that. Try temporarily turning off your antivirus and see if that helps.
Just a suggestion as a possible cause that's worth checking into.
Thanks for the quick response Dave!!...I will see that she gets this info post haste!! Jo
I have found if you save it in favourites it occasionally doesnt work...............
So all you have to do is google davesgarden.com and you will get on ok...............
I had a similar problem to JoanJ when I upgraded to a newer version of Norton--it didn't cause problems with DG, but it wouldn't let me get to my Yahoo home page. I think I went in somehow and told it Yahoo was a trusted site or something like that and now it'll let me get on there and I didn't have to uninstall the antivirus. The other problem might be internet security settings--if you recently upgraded to a new version of a web browser maybe it reset the security to a higher level? I'm guessing this site probably uses cookies of some sort to remember you, so if your security settings won't allow cookies maybe that's causing the problem?
I always come in thru history and never sign off.
I have a Shortcut on my desktop and never sign out either. Jo
Make sure that Elena is not using IE 7.

Thanks Dave...I have forwarded this info on to Elena.....I know that I can get into DG using her name and password...so it must be some where else and I appreciate your knowledge and help.
Elena is getting so discouraged.....Jo
Poor thing...I don't know where to turn now....I feel it's internal in her computer itself. Just don't know what to turn off...or on.... now to get results....she's so sad at not being able to connect with her friends.
A couple things to ask her or have her try...first, has she installed anything new on her computer lately (including automatic windows updates, Internet Explorer, etc). If she's using Internet Explorer version 7 as Dave pointed out above there are others who have been having problems so that's probably what's going on. If she's using an earlier version of IE, have her go to Tools--->Internet Options and check a couple things. What I'm saying here is true for IE version 6 which is what I have, the options in other versions may be different. In the internet options, she should check the settings under the "privacy" tab, if that's set to a really high level, then that could cause problems (I have mine set at medium and have no problems logging on to any sites). The other thing she can do is go to the "security" tab, click on the trusted sites icon, and add davesgarden.com to the list of trusted sites (I had to do this with my Yahoo home page after I installed a new version of my anti-virus software, it didn't want to let me go to Yahoo for some reason until I told it Yahoo was a trusted site). Firefox also seems to be a better browser to use with DG, so if she has it installed I would tell her to use it instead of IE, or if she doesn't have it installed, have her download it and try using it instead. If changing settings in IE and/or using Firefox instead don't help then it must be something else with either her computer or her internet provider (does she have problems logging on to other sites that she has accounts on, or just DG?)
OK...I'm going to EMail her this latest post of instructions...Thanks for all the help she can get. Jo
Elena says that she uses Mozilla Firefox .....and DG is the only place she has a problem getting into. Keep those thinking caps burning the midnight oil! Thanks! Jo
Jo, does Elena have a different DG thread saved as favorite or bookmark? I was able to get onto Dave's and log on that way. I'm finally able to get to my home page. I have no idea what happened. I use IE 6.
She has tried everything...and Melody has tried to help too. Jo
I don't use Firefox so I don't know where the privacy/security options that I was talking about in Internet Explorer are in that browser, but I'm sure it has similar settings to IE, just in a different place so if she knows how to check that she may find the problem. Maybe have her try using Internet Explorer instead (as long as it's not version 7 on her computer!). Usually Firefox is better, but if something weird happened to one of her settings in there, a clean start with IE might help. IE usually comes installed already on most computers so she probably won't even have to download it.
Please do tell, what is it specifically that is a problem with IE 7?
Seems like I I have problems all of a sudden making purchaes at the post office site since that IE update. I posted this elsewhere but no one commented on it.
Post office makes me file a dispute with PayPal to get my money refunded from duplicate payments caused by the IE.
Anyway that was what happened for me. What else is it IE7 problems?
Molly
:^))))
Nothing new installed...she uses Firefox, but has IE on her computer.(I tried both myself)..will check and see if it's IE7. Privacy and firewalls are set at medium...been there done that. She has Zone Alarm...turned it completely off...turned all privacy settings completely off...(after that didn't work, we turned them back on.)..cleared all cookies...reset her modem...Can't access DG from Home Page, PlantFiles or GardenWatchdog...tried all those back doors. The page never loads...it says 'connecting to davesgarden.com' on one and 'waiting for davesgarden.com' on the other browser. DG just never loads. It's the only site she can't access...has no trouble connecting to any other site on the internet. I have physically been to Nashville and tried all of this, and am up against a brick wall.
Her son is bringing his laptop Christmas and going to hook it up to her line to see if if we can figure out if it's in the computer or with her ISP.
She can log on from any other computer as Elena...just not her own.
The problem with IE7 is in the security settings. All should be set to medium, and then go to the security and you have to manually type in the DG website address. I had to tell my computer that it is a trusted site. I think the first of the week, I am going to uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6, until they get the bugs worked out of the new version. DH is having trouble checking his stock site, and it is driving him crazy, I have added his website address manually, but it is still not like it used to be.
I have IE7(but use firefox) but can still get on DG from there, but I did have the same problem a couple weeks ago when I renewed Nortons antivirus, I finally ended up taking it off my computer. So that is something else you might want to look at.
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft User Agent String Utility"
This is the string I was given by earthlink to bypass 7.0. I am not as computer literate as some of you, but my understanding is that this allows me to still have7.0. but the internet websites are viewed as thought I have 6.0, until all bugs are worked out. Anyway, this is the link if anyone needs it.
I was unable to view any website, but one time, once I pressed the back button, I lost it.
Dave's is my homepage, so I don't type anything in to get here.
I couldn't vew microsoft's website correctly.
Janet
With all this help I'm betting that Elena will be back in the fold by New Years Eve!! (Maybe before.....) Jo
I wonder how many others are having troubles that don't know of the support system we have? If folks can't log on to ask for help, and don't know someone well enough to contact them, they'd be lost for sure.
Oh....I hope no one needs us and we don't know about it....Jo
