I re read the mesages and i'm not sure if mark said yes to that or something else!
Hope he can he's the right kind of person to be detective hehe.... Like the one in the pink panther i think hehe
I WILL VOLUNTEER TO DO ANYTHING...................................................... SO LONG AS IT DOESNT COST ME A FORTUNE
There may have been two people email, but if they decided they didn't want to that is OK by me.
The seeds arrived about half an hour ago, today was about the limit on time as postal services towards Xmas can be expected to be slow. They were posted on Friday 15th.
I did receive all but one lot of seeds, for which they put another packet in to compensate.
They did write a note of explanation. I do wonder if they would have done if I had not gone to such lengths, others have not been successful.
They said my order had been filed as 'completed'........if it has not been sent they guessed it was because they expected some 2006 seed of Corydalis caseana which had not materialised and the 2005 seed would be of no use now.
They also enclosed a cheque for £10 to compensate, also for the slight change in the value of the $US. (It was under $1.80 and lately has been close on $2 to £1) The seeds not available cost $6, total of $57 then was over £31 which if I had ordered now would have been less than £29. The difference in total around £6. I did mention to them the exchange rate when I phoned if a refund was in order!
They have come clean, and I AM pleased now I have the seeds, it is amazing what a pile of seeds in your lap can do for you in terms of happiness!
This comes with a tinge of sadness for those who have not received their seeds. Now that I have pointed out to them by phone that there are others complaining, and upset, like Annette, perhaps a letter will get results if you mention Dave's Garden and even me if you wish, but don't give them my user name, just a person who received their seeds because they had a devil of a time chasing it up. Perhaps an understanding tone of 'I realise you may have been having problems' would go down well.
I can give them the benefit of the doubt but only to a certain point, I still keep in my the others who have still not received their oders, and the efforts they have made and been ignored and may forever be ignored.
Why would anyone 'complete' an order if it had not been completed, it surely should have been filed as 'waiting for seeds to fulfil order', and why did they tell me they would be sending the seeds 'next week' if they had been waiting for seeds?
Surely anyone acknowledging an order in such a way would have asked if I minded waiting for them or would I accept the order without.
My chapter is closed, with much relief.
Now i'll bite my tongue!
Seriously i'm happy for you. Came back here just now anyway to say i have checked there webhost, and it all seems above board.
I think they use pipex. Some dodgy companies use sites that are held abroad so technically any web orders are done in a foregin country where internet laws don't exist etc.
Maybe i'll just go straight out and phone them for Annette now, no longer need to go the sneaky route.
Mike
Just realised something.... we ought to wait till wallaby's seeds hatch. .... they probably microwaved them before sending them out!
OK MIke, don't let it get the better of you! You forgot to bite your tongue!
Thanks to all who have shown their concern here, now it's 'good luck' to Annette.
I'm glad the seeds arrived for you Wallaby1
I can't speak for another company however you asked:
"Why would anyone 'complete' an order if it had not been completed, it surely should have been filed as 'waiting for seeds to fulfil order', and why did they tell me they would be sending the seeds 'next week' if they had been waiting for seeds?"
One of the great things about computers & software is that you can do wonderous things at the click of a button. One of the worst things about a computer & software is that you can wonderous things at the click of a button and not know until much later that they were the wrong wonderous things. I don't know what shopping cart software they are using but I've used several and they are all very easy to click buttons on.
I've not seen a system yet that taps you on the shoulder and tells you that you physically haven't completed the task, it merely assumes you have. It's a logical conclusion but not necessarily the correct one. Which of us is perfect? Maybe they hired poor help, maybe they just dropped the ball, there are a ton of maybes to consider if you think about it but none of this is an issue your customer should be concerned with but at the end of the day we all make mistakes.
If they were relying on a 3rd party for seeds (and a surprising amount of seed companies/sellers do) they they may have been promising the goods for eons, it could be that they had to find new suppliers. I know the nightmare of receiving an order and suddenly not being able to fulfill it due to supplier problems (Christmas and Valentines Day are loaded with that particular pitfall), it's a most unpleasant experience that we all hope never happens to us but all we can do is try to minimise the risk of it happening.
Anyway like I say I can't speak for JJA but that's my experience.
Think you missed the point of why i was biting my tongue! Something along the lines of "i told you so" .
Not sure whats best with Annette now its all worked out with you. As if they think its just the one person then maybe they where willing to keep the peace. If i phone up now how does that look?
Any thoughts anyone?
I see all of these problems too Baa, it must be a nightmare. I don't think they do most of their business on the internet, he did say the internet side had perhaps been neglected.
This would lead me to believe they have a manual filing system, perhaps the right arm doesn't know what the left arm is doing. I would have thought any orders they received via the internet would have been transferred to a manual filing system for their mailing purposes, printers are wonderful for that.
None of these reasons explains their refusal to acknowledge emails or correspondence by letter.
Perhaps life is getting difficult for them, we don't know if they are forever bickering at each other 'you can do that', 'not my job' 'if you can't do it why should I' you know the sort of husband and wife stuff. Of course this is only guessing and I don't have the fly on the wall to tell me. Reputations can be made and lost in a hurry.
Mike, no I didn't miss the point, I think you may have done though!
Baa tooo true.
There Pickacart software they use for there shopping cart software isnt very advanced it seems to be some kind of shareware program that programers can alter freely to fit there purpose better.
Usually that means any errors in the program carry on as the program develops as each new programer to use the original version has to rely on the guys before to be good at what they do.
Xmas and valentines orders..... You telling me i have a real problem with a customer and some xmas trees for a hotel at the moment! Not my error but try telling the customer that! I have tried to sort the problem though, even though its costing me money!
Mike. re Annette, as I said earlier I don't think any business would entertain anyone other than the person they had dealt with.
No, they don't think I was the only person that had toruble, I stated earlier that I told them there were others from all over the world complaining and I was seeing them being discussed in other places on the internet.
Eh Wallaby... Until i found myself explaining the comment ,i hadn't said it sooo ... untill that point i had bitten my tongue.
I could however be typing here for days with examples from above where i had pointed you to the conclusion you found! But i fear it may go over your head.
Wallaby can i ask if you will be letting the BBC know of the outcome? Also if you are having problems running the main part of the business and the website side is just a spin off, then maybe you woudn't spend time printing out internet orders to file on a old fashioned system in the back room. More filling means less time spent fulfilling orders.
Again ifs and buts, but we don't know the full story so shouldn't be jumping to conclusions. We can only take there word that they did intend to fulfill the order.
I am assuming that the seeds Wallaby recieved are the right seeds for the plants she ordered and not nastutiums or something. If so i guess that we can assume they do actually make the effort of getting these rare and hard to find seeds. That alone must be a nightmare job. Continuity of supply must be an imposible task.
Well Mike just what would we all do without your wisdom and expertise!
LOL at manual filing system, paperwork is essential but filing and general paperwork organisation is an art form not easily mastered. Most cart software, correctly configured and working would still have pointed out a mistake where manual paper work would not.
I can't speak for Pickacart though, I've not used it and like I said I'm not speaking for JJA either, just my own experiences of a web sales site.
Mike, best of British with the hotel. Still it's your name they've got so it has to be your fault LOL
Well wallaby ..... i can only hope for your sakes that the Dr that pronouces me dead lets you know... then you will find out how life is without me.... Lol
Baa.... I shall never stay at the hotel again... This is the place that gave my vegetarian wife a meat dish for her wedding day meal... We had trouble getting an apology out of them for that. So i doubt ill use them for my next wedding when i trade my wife in for a younger model! heheh
Baa where do you work? Or what do you do? Is it the Horticultural trade?

That's appalling Mike, I hope it didn't spoil your wife's day too much.
I work for myself these days, I'm what's known as a fancy goods e-tailer LOL which means if you don't need it I may well sell it ;) Although I'm branching out more this year into more ethical goods.
I started the out selling seeds & plants from the garden on ebay in the days when the world and his wife weren't cutting their own throats just for a sale. It was initially to keep me in new plants but grew into other things.
I've been wanting to go back to my seed and plant base as a part of the business but that will be something for the next spring onwards now.
Baa do you mean you hope my death doesn't spoil my wifes day too much? heheheh
Yeah i know. they had been told in writing when we booked the day. But my view is accidents do happen and some times you can't rectify what happens, only be appologetic. There is a part of the general public that thinks when accidents happen they are entitled to monetary compensation. In my view that is greed only and solves no purpose except to help the person feel less of a victim and feel like they won!
Shame you don't live closer we need someone to run my internet store. I pay to have it there but its closed. Costs me 650 quid a year to have it sat there. I have more than a million quids worth of stock, just need the right person to be able to sell the stuff and keep the orders flowing properly. ........ I fear you earn more than i could offer though.
ROTFL
I agree too many people shouting about money although mucking up a wedding dinner isn't ever going to earn anyone brownie points. Similar thing happened at a family wedding, the bride hates fish, particularly whole fish but as there was no fish on the menu it wasn't a problem. When they served her peas, in perfect colour contrast to the light green legumes lay a tiny, whole, silver coloured fish! They just gave her another plate and immediately apologised.
650 quid a year?????????????????????? My wallet just ran off to hide in the corner!
Are you needing someone to run the site and dispatch the physical goods? I can't say I'd know what to do if I had to run a bricks and mortar company as well.
Silver fish and pea's sounds tasty!
The 650 covers other things as well. Plus its the owners friend that hosts the site and shop. Covers all the IT stuff to do with the site.
Yeah needing someone to do the whole shebang! The physical side is the easiest bit. Its not so much running the company as updating the site and uploading images etc
I need a school leaver with an interest in computers really.
Great to hear that you got your seeds, wallaby1!
Hope they're good ones.
I guess just ignoring any question about their behaviour that is hard to justify is their way of dealing with the conflict.
Robert.
Ed: spelling.

Mike I'm clearly in the wrong side of the business if they can charge 650GBP a year LOL.
You could train a monkey to upload images, products and maintain the site, then again the monkey would probably charge more and demand more workers rights ;)
Hi Robert, who knows, now they might look back at other email complaints and put those right too! That is if they still have them, which is doubtful.
I'm thinking of Annette here, my victory may encourage but I had to go to great lengths, it shouldn't be that way.
Any excuses made on their behalf are still in ignorance of the facts, and making the victim out to be the trouble maker, but I'm sure most reasonable people can see that we are the victims. I will never state anything is 100% certain but facts do speak for themselves.
The seeds do look to be good ones, some have some rubbish with them but enough good ones. It is time some were sown so I will now have to make the effort in this cold weather. I could have done with them at the proper time but not all is lost. I even bought another packet of Gladiolus seed from Silverhill seeds that I really wanted, just in case I didn't get these. Not only does all this frustrate, it can upset plans to get seed which you may otherwise purchase from elsewhere.
Regardless of their reasons, they are in business, and regardless of whether we are getting rare seeds from them they are also making money out of people. It has to be a two way street, otherwise it becomes highway robbery.
Victim???? You want to try claiming compensation for what the trauma you have been through. Must be worth a few thousand.
Baa, I allready employ half a dozen monkeys (plus some decent people heheh). It amazing but because its website stuff everyone expects huge salaries because they think there some kind of IT consultant. You are right though it should be easy enough, just needs the right person.
Happy to hear you got your seeds finally, Wallaby 1!
The price was high if you count with all the frustrations and numerous efforts to obtain what you had paid for.
Thanks bonitin, I thought I would have a nasty reminder every time I looked at the seeds but I can't help but smile. I don't know if it was the victory, the seeds, or the refund!
I don't know if it was the victory, the seeds, or the refund
All three! Hope the germination is good.
Resin
It probably was Resin!
Perhaps I should start another thread on the progress of these seeds now, you must feel like family by now!
I think (imagine) it was mainly the seeds!
Yes the seeds are the main thing here. The victory is never that satisfying when it has been such a battle, and I really would throw money back at anyone trying to buy me but won't in this instance as it is justified.
The seeds that have been so elusive and wanted are in my lap, and that is great!
A little sad though, if I wanted to buy more from them it would be difficult.
Hi Janet
Nice to see you got your seeds at last.............................. well done!!!
Hi Mark, thanks.
Why is it seeds seem so precious to us? I imagine they provide us with a new life to watch and grow, and give us a connection with nature. To sow the seeds, water them, help them to grow and then the grand finale is the flowering. What can beat that?
We can only say all is well that ends well
when the seeds prove to be viable.
