1st winter Morning Glory bloom

Melbourne, FL

I planted seeds several weeks ago hoping for some winter Morning Glories, and the first opened this morning. I should have a few different colors, plus some Moon Vines.

Nice purpurea. The light pink looks like a form of Crimson Rambler.

Nice colors in winter!

(Zone 7a)

One of the few things this time of year without a light bulb!

That pink should really chase the winter blues away!

I will when I get another bloom open on that one. That failed bloom above, I have had a few others the same color, all have not opened properly. Any reason that happens that you know of?

We recently had a power outage of 3 days after a storm. I noticed that my MG's in the front window suddenly started producing "deformed" looking blooms, or blooms that failed to open completely and were split. I think it was the sudden drop in temps since without heat the inside temps took a nosedive. Now that the heat is back on, I'm hoping they return to normal.

Can't be blamed on weather here, it's been beautiful with temps of around 70.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Sometimes the cold temperatures causes deformaties or lack of water causes not enough > turgor pressure to enable the blooms to open up fully...sometimes a particular strain may have a much higher tendency to opening deformities and sometimes even a strain that usually opens up nice will 'throw' some that don't...> on the extra large flowered Ipomoea nil the tube structure is often just not stiff enough >it's the 'nature of the beast'...

TTY,...

Thanks Ron, more bad ones today, I think it is one of the weaker glories. I may never get a good flower from that one.

OK Ron, I hope this is what you wanted. It was dark and rainy here this morning, I had to use flash.

gardenpom - That's exactly(!) what I wanted to see...great shot...and answers the question that I had in my mind as to the identity of the plant species...it is Ipomoea nil...

Some of the other blooms you posted are of Ipomoea purpurea and I was looking at the heart shaped leaves and wondering what you had going on there...

Thanks again...
