Peppermint Stick is a lovely chimera.... I know I keep saying this, but I'm going to have to get myself a chimera... it's just that I end up thinking that I could have several plants for the cost of a chimera, and there are so many non-chimeras that catch my fancy also!
Hmmm, perhaps somebody will propagate a chimera and be willing to trade me 5 (or more) to 1 for it.... :-)
I love those velvety-dark leaves on Rob's Hot Chocolate! Makes me think of a cup of cocoa with pink marshmallows in it... can you still get colored marshmallows? I'm not sure, as I've just been buying the white ones recently, for making rice krispie treats!

What's a chimera?
A: A Chimera is a special breed of African Violet. It is a spontaneous mutation resulting in an AV with a bloom which has a bi-colored 'Pinwheel' appearance. Chimera AV's cannot be propagated by leaf, but rather must be reproduced from a crown or peduncle cutting. For more informtation check these links or more in stickys or do a search in AV forum :))

They are a lot more expensive it appears than AVs, plus the shipping is really expensive...when it sates 21.00 for one box, how many plants are in a box? That would be more for shipping than one of the plants if you are looking at 15.00 for the plants.
lol I agree- I'd rather spend that much on 4 or 5 a.v. plants than spend that much on just one chimera.

I think there's good info about chimeras in the sticky... I know we've had threads on them... interestingly, chimera plants (and animals) actually have two distinct genetic identities, combining two genetically different tissues in the same plant. Allison, I think at one point you had offered to put a 'Sunray Trail' in one of my boxes, but I think you ran out of available plantlets... no problem, although I'm hoping maybe somebody who got one is having good luck with it. I think trailer chimeras seem easiest to propagate, since you want trailers to grow suckers anyway. I'd also love to trade somebody for a sucker of 'Rob's Humpty Doo' this spring... I have leaf-grown offspring of that one (one blue, one white with blue tips), but I'd like the "real thing" sometime!
I did have a sucker from 'Harmony's Little Stinker' (foliage chimera) that tried hard for months but finally didn't make it. I also have a plantlet marked "Sgt. Pepper chimera," but the only 'Sergeant Pepper' I've been able to find is a non-chimera standard by Sorano... If and when it blooms, I guess I'll see what it looks like!
Hmmm, Nancy, maybe you could shift things a bit and have the first 4 verified Bingo posters win a prize, then give the 5th prize to the person with the most calls left on their card, if you want to do one of the prizes like that. And I'm not just promoting the idea because I've only had one of mine called so far, LOL... I think it's a fun twist! :-)
