Scary potting soil. It could happen to anyone
Who knew? :-%
Thanks for sharing...important stuff to note!

I understand it was just the soil that came with a grocery store house plant that had died. They saved the pot with the soil and it lit on fire. I have pots like this everywhere, even under my kitchen sink.
The investigators believe as the dead roots decomposed creating heat and the soil dried out the combination created the conditions for a fire. This would suggest that the soil is dangerous shortly after a plant dies and the soil is no longer being watered.
I have to stop sticking pots from dead plants under my kiytchen sink. I have TWO that were those decorative pepper plants that I just dumped in the garbage.
Interesting...
Gosh, that is interesting and scary. Better check the pots of potting soil. Who would have thought this would happen?
