here's an "if only" question for you.........

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

if you could only prepare and eat one dinner/supper for the rest of your life, what would it be? i think my all-time favorite meal (and one that i forget about for some odd reason) would have to be corned beef and cabbage with new potatoes. i made it last night and i always make enough for a couple of leftover dinners. i can hardly wait until tonight to eat! lol

It would be BBQ brisket with loads of garlic, peppers and onions. Slow baked beans, creamy coleslaw, salad and homemade yeast roll. Yum-yum! ;0)

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I love a lot of things, like chili, homemade soup, stuffed peppers, pizza, stuffed cabbage....but I know I would get tired of them if I had to have them ALL the time. Though both of the dinners mentioned above sure do sound good!

As a variation on the original question, debi, if you could eat only one SNACK FOOD for the rest of your life, what would it be? Troyer Farms potato chips and Bison French Onion Chip Dip.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

If I had to eat the same thing every night for the rest of my life, it would be:

A bowl of French Onion Soup
A green salad with raspberry vinegar dressing
Chicken stir fry with lots of veggies
A bottle of Killians

I'll even skip dessert. LOL

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hey Joan, that sounds delish. I don't even want to go there, what would I want to eat the same thing day after day? hehe, I got a garden.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, that's gonna be rib eye steak, baked potato and salad, no question.
Sherry
edited to say I really do like the sound of garden6's meal, that would be my second choice!

For me it would be either fresh Salmon done in Mayonaisse and dill OR local Pickeral (Walleye).

Serve either with homefried potatos or rice :-)

Gotta love those Omega 3s :-)

What a question!

I would have a tender delmonico steak, broiled with mushrooms and onions.

A side of shrimp scampi.

baked potato with sour cream of course

salad with ranch dressing

For desert cheesecake with fresh strawberries on top!

OF course Debi, none of this is going to go on my hips, right??

Good deep-dish pizza with everything!

Thornton, IL

No,no, Nan! Thin crust pizza with a big kitchen-sink green salad. Tall glasses of iced tea with sugar & lemon slices. And spumoni ice cream for dessert!

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

the thinnest crust imaginable. made in st.louis. that is a pizza town if there ever was one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank goodness I am about to go out to dinner. You all are making me so hungry. I would like roast chicken with lots of roasted vegetables. And creamy mashed potatoes with a hole in the center filled with fresh green peas and gravy. I love chicken. I could eat that every night. And I hope it is someone else who is cooking it every night for me.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

oh kell, yes on the baby peas. i love those.

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm the same as Kell - Roast chicken, roast vegetables including roast potatoes, peas and gravy. My all time favorite meal and I could eat it every day of the week. Darn - I wish we weren't having spaghetti tonight...

Thornton, IL

Plus, kell hit the nail on the head, anything tastes better well-prepared for you.

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh yeah! (Although not very likely to happen in my house!)

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

pizza & ice cream......yum!

Crozet, VA

While eating last night, I remembered this discussion. The way that I would have to answer this question is to say that my favorite would be any meal that included potatoes and corn. Both of these items can be prepared in many different ways and I like them all. ha ha Last night I was having mashed potatoes and plain cooked can corn. Those two things together are good enough to make your tongue beat your eyeballs out. ha-ha

There are not too many fooks that I don't like.

I love fresh corn too, Ruby. We have the best corn here in the summer, Brentwood corn. I can eat it raw it is so sweet. I didn't eat corn for a couple of years because a friend of mine told me that they feed cattle corn to fatten them up. I couldn't get that out of my mind. But after 2 years of no corn. I was still fat so I figured I might as well enjoy.

I was thinking last night that I have different likes different times of year. In the summer I could eat ripe Brandywine tomatoes sliced thick on a balloon bread with Best Food mayo every day of the week.

When I was thinking this I was eating sushi at our favorite sushi restaurant. Sushi is our favorite restaurant food, we could eat that everytime we go out to eat. Our sushi place is so incredible. And since we have been going there every week since they were almost newly open, the sushi chef makes us special things every week. This was one from last night.

Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings by far my favorite!

But anything with a great twice baked potato works too! No weight gain right????

OH pot roast with the carrots potatoes and onions oh yum!

Comfort food I love it all!

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

my mom made a great potroast, me, well, i try.

Minestrone soup with crusty bread. Both homemade of course.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

i agree with magoobu~~Thanksgiving dinner, which consists at our house of (of course) turkey with stuffing (nothing fancy in it, like fruit, nuts, sausage-well, maybe a little sausage) mashed potatoes and plain, baked sweet potatoes, rutabaga, squash, cranberry sauce, and I forgot to say gravy. Our Thanksgiving dinner is very blah-looking, not colorful, but it's what we like.

We like it so much that we plan to do it all over again in three weeks when we get out-of-town company.

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

But don't try it! laff

My husband was hospitilized for 2 weeks re tests for kidney stones. He had to pick out a day's diet that he would stick to for that time. By the time the 2 weeks were up he could hardly get the food down. :)

What a question!! I have thought and thought..and it is just impossible for me to narrow it down..Stuffed Flounder..Spinach Salad with Raspberry Vinagrette Dressing..Steamed Asparagus...and Buttermilk Pie(warm from oven, of course) would be ONE of my choices..but then what about my DHs grilled Rib-eyes? Or his Baby Back Ribs that are so tender they fall off the bone?? Or my handed down recipe of Talerine!! Oh! My Mom's Chocolate Pie!!...See?? I cant do it..My luck would be..I had only ONE night to live..ONE choice to decide on..I would waste the time trying to decide!! Thank Goodness I havent been dealt that card and had to make those decisions..My friends and family have always said I am eclectic!!! ;-)

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

italian meat pie, the sharpest provolone cheese i could find, a loaf of italian bread and root beer soda. life is great.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)
