Here is the bloom of the Snow Leopard plant you sent me in May. It's the first time the plant has bloomed since I've received it although I was somewhat remiss in getting the plant potted up when it needed it. It is a BIG beautiful bloom--I measured and it is almost 2" across! I love it!
Stephanie :)
For Allison: Snow Leopard
Beautiful : )
Stephanie beautiful bloom wow . Yes this plants flowers seem to get bigger and bigger and open even more as times goes by.
She is Beautiful Thanks so much for sharing. Please keep us up-dated as she matures and give you more flowers !
Thanks Bunches !

Nice soft colors...pretty.
Laura
Love the violet eye!
Susan, if you mean the photo that Allison has posted (with the purple edges on the petals), I think hers is a sport of Snow Leopard... I know somebody found the Russian name for this one, but I don't remember it, which makes it harder to look up, LOL.
I found it on the Russian Violets thread...
Snowrose wrote, "It is registered as 'EK-Snezhnyi Bars' (E.Korshunova) [9581]
Single-semidouble white large frilled star/lilac eye, violet edge. Medium green, pointed. Standard."
Hope that helps you find other photos of it!
Allison has said hers was a sport, and I think that's one reason she was propagating this one and asking about it, to see if the sported bloom came true on any of the offspring.
I don't know. I grew out a couple of leaves from Nanna's "Gypsy" noid (the one with the red "pinwheel" blooms), hoping to get one that would bloom true (none have bloomed yet), and one out of 4 has much lighter green leaves, not a different shape but definitely a different color.
Wasn't Stephanie's plant an offspring of Allison's sported 'Snow Leopard', or am I just confused?
(I hope I'm not sounding argumentative, as I don't mean to.... I'm intrigued by the idea of trying to propagate sports.)

Gosh, I didn't mean to cause so much conflict. Maybe I should provide more information about my plant--it is still not a mature plant. I don't know if you can tell that from the photo or not. This is the first time it has bloomed and the bloom had only been open for approximately two days when the photo was taken. As for culture, it is on a light stand and I keep the lights on for approximately 10-12 hours a day. I'll keep an eye on the bloom to see if it develops a purple edge. I was unaware that there was a sport of Snow Leopard, but regardless the bloom is very pretty and like I mentioned earlier, LARGE. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't tell you how many times I've ordered a violet because I've seen a picture of its blossom only to have it bloom for me and be disappointed by the bloom's small size. Sometimes I wonder how many times they have to magnify the pictures of the blooms on those online catalogs!
Your plant is gorgous Stephanie ! Far as I know there is not a Sport of Russian Snow Leopard not to be confused with the Snow Leopard by (S. Sorano)
I wrote and fount information about this plant from Russia ! And posted the information I recieved :))

Allison, I'm confused... I thought I remembered that your 'Snow Leopard' had sported with those wide purple edges and that you were all excited about that... and now you've said repeatedly that your 'Snow Leopard' was blooming true.... ?? It doesn't really make any difference to me, I'm excited about the plant I'm growing either way, and I'll just wait to see what mine looks like when it blooms. :-)
What questions do you have for the hybridizer? Are you planning to do some crosses with it? (just curious)
Wow, I re-read some of the above.... I can't imagine a 3-4 inch bloom.... This one definitely gets a "good spot" on my light shelves!

Oh, I see.... first you thought it was a chimera or a sport, and then you discovered that those great purple edges were true to the original description.
Speaking of blooms varying.... The first time my 'Lil Bit 'o Irish' bloomed, it was white with a bit of green edge, just like the description... It bloomed again recently, still with a green tips, but with a definite flush of pink that was quite wonderful. So even with the same plant, you never know exactly what you might see!

Thanks, Susan! I'll post a picture of mine as soon as it blooms... it's still smallish, growing slowly for me... I think it liked living in Florida!
