2 pugdogs, wish I had your self-control. Won a dwarf Purple Prince ti, waiting on a Keely's Gold ti. He is very nice, BTW; I asked him about extra wrapping to insulate the ti plants on their way to NJ, even offered to buy a heat pack if I need it, and he said he'd wrap extra layers around the plants. I won't even look at a cactus or succulent this time of year, but ti plants should be OK, right Carol?
New seller on ebay
I LOVE Purple Prince!!!! and there is a Dwarf PP as well (I think)....
Ti shouldn't hurt in the cold...as long as they don't freeze!
Those Ti plants pictured are fabulous! I absolutely LOVE the 'multi-colored' ones.
I had my eye on a few things, but decided I couldn't afford it right now...I practiced some self-control, too!! LOL!!
At first I thought the shipping was rather high, BUT then I noted that he's selling 6" pots and shipping them *potted* - so the shipping isn't really out of line at all.
I'll keep watching his auctions, too, and maybe order in the future.
WOW!! There are so many plants on there I absolutely love!! He'd have to set me up on a monthly payment plan. LOL
Yes Carol, he has the dwarf PP, that's what I'm getting.
How super!!!! I have to get him to join DG!!!
I think he already joined last week.
Jeri
I need someone to keep me from buying the rest of his tis. really and truly!
OK where is he, maybe we can convince him to have classified adds with his required price on DG so were not fighting against each other .
Wow! What beautiful tropical plants. Here I sit in freezing temps drooling over tropicals. lol I have sent him a question about some of his tropicals. I have already added him to my favorites. ;)
Lin
LOL!! Yeah, Carol.....get to work on convincing him! (Ü)
BTW...does he have a website?
No, Nan, he doesn't have a web site...but he needs one!!!! Doesn't he?!
Carol
Indeed, he does!
Question here: If someone selling on ebay does not have a good photo of the flower or the plant they are selling, is it acceptable to link to a site that does have a good picture, giving that site/owner of the photo credit?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Carol
Carol, I think the term they use for that is "bandwidth stealing." In other words, say that Logee's pays money to have and run their web site, and another business links to their picture in order to sell their own plants. Then the other seller is effectively using Logee's picture on Logee's web site, without paying any web hosting fees, and that is why they call it "stealing bandwidth." I think it is also contrary to eBay's selling policies. The picture has to either be your own, or you have to have permission from the owner. Proper credit should be given as to who took the photo and whose plant it is so that no one is misled.
Thanks, Clare...very helpful and it makes perfect sense!!!
There are sites like this one that allow the use of their photos if credit for the photos is on the photo or in text near the photo. One of the exceptions if use by another stock photo company is disallowed.

Hey, maybe he could post here on the tropicals forum if he needs a picture and if somebody supplied him with their own picture he could give them a credit on a purchase.
Just look it up in PlantFiles find one he likes.
DMail the photo owner for permission to Download and use on his Site.
I get requests all the time.
Ric
Ric...great idea...I will tell him.
He might be able to just list the link to PlantFiles. I'm not sure whether Dave's would permit that or not and whether Dave would consider that bandwidth stealing. You could ask over at that forum. I'm also not sure whether eBay allows that or not.
If the owner of the picture allows someone else to use their photo, they can add it to their own site or photo collection or whatever. You just have to give credit to the photographer if that is their terms. I don't think they meant link to DG. I've let several non-profit organizations use my photos, as well as a couple of businesses and fellow DGers. I just send them a clean copy via email.
Just a follow-up to folks who thought Troy's shipping costs were a bit high- I won 2 ti plants, paid for everything, he refunded some of the shipping cost (after getting everything packaged up and weighed, I suppose). And Carol, it's Dwarf PP and Keely's Gold that are on their way to me in NJ. Can't wait.
Congratulations! We want to see pictures when they get there. alice
Photos, definitely!!
Good to hear that Troy is a conscientious seller.
I just won Keelys Gold! WooHoo, I can't wait to see it; plants that rusty color are my favorites this week. LOL
WOW....He named those new Ti for his daughters... Keely being one of them....Leisha is another!
Mine came yesterday, Keely's Gold is even prettier in person. Snapped photos, have to bring camera in for processing.
Well Carol, I have ordered a few plants on your recommendation from your friend here, just waiting on them!! My problem is he doesn't say which can tolerate lower zones but I am forever hopeful. LOL
He doesn't have anything listed.
Did he decide to stop selling on ebay?
Don't know. Will have to call him. I know that the Holiday Season here was really busy for him.....
Talked to Troy....Holidays are a madhouse for nurseries here...so they had to choose between the immediate and the immediate...so they chose.... They hope to get back up this week or next....

noveltyg has some wonderful plants - however, they seem to be pricey. Us teachers have to go the bargain route; it usually means buying small, and waiting for it to grow.
I had missed this earlier. I've been on an eBay buying spree lately. A traveler's palm, a white bird of paradise, two Australian tree ferns, two philodendrons, and three banana plants. My wife hasn't put her foot down yet, so I have no reason to stop, LOL.
Thanks for the heads up on this. I purchased a dozen tropicals from a Hawaiian seller a few years ago ('sunomega' I think is the username), and they are all still doing great. I took several cuttings myself the last two years, and they've also done very well. Now I have another seller to put on my watch list :)
The bigger the plant when I get it, the better :)
Mahalo again.

May I assume a buyer in zone 9/10 is safe to purchase his plants? Beauties for sure. Unique and lovely.
Thanks for sharing...
Is this seller out of business? If not, how do I contact him?
Kay,
Don't know if you noticed or not, but the thread is back in 2007, so he may not be doing it anymore. I read thru the whole post and was getting excited about looking at his plants and then noticed it was 2007. Boo!
Ya, I did notice that. There just HAS to be someone who sells tropical plants at a reasonable price, with reasonable shipping. I KNOW, from years of shipping plants, that it doesn't cost $8 to ship a 4" pot!
Kay, the best place I have found is Almost eden. John has fabulous plants, nice size, most are in a 4 or 6 in. pot and will be 12 in. tall or more. I have never had a problem with his plants.
The shipping is another story, it has gone up so much lately its not funny. I sent the same exact box with the same exact thing in it the other day, one to TX and one to CA. TX was 5.25 and CA was 10.85.....don't think so, so I brought the CA box back home and I am going to try to get it in the smallest flat rate. I just don't think I am going to do much shipping past the good old southern states anymore. Just too expensive!
Last I heard this grower is still growing but not good or comfortable on the computer so we'll just have to go to Hawaii to buy his plants. Who's in???
I too have pretty much given up on shipping anymore, it has gotten out of hand. Recently I found a plant I have really wanted on Plant Delights website and the shipping was more than the plant cost. I'll wait until I get there in June to pick that one up.
Ardesia,
I'm ready, you name the time..LOL
How far is PD from you? I love their catalog, they definately have unusual things. What were you looking for?
