New seller on ebay

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Since he is new, I thought I would give you tropical fiends a heads up that 'noveltyg' is A-OK!!! He is a good friend of mine with a real passion for plants and his ebay selling is done with his daughter to teach her about business. Troy is one of the genuinely nicest nurserymen I know and I lose weight just from drooling everytime I go to his greenhouses!!!

Carol

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

Well Ive already discovered him and got my first plant yesterday. He does a good job and i can tell from looking at his new listings that we will be doing a lot of business. Tell him i said thannks.

is it the plants your drooling at ? LOL

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the head up Carol, now I'm really going to be broke! LOL. Great plants!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH yes...just the plants!!! Tho' he is nice eye candy...lol. His mom and dad have a big nursery too...the whole family is involved in growing plants!!!

After you sign in, click on "advanced search" - it is written in smaller blue letters to the right of the regular search box. When that screen comes up ignore the main box and look in the blue boxes on the left side of the screen. Click "find by seller" and then type in "noveltyg" or whatever seller you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Nice plants. I don't know if these are normal shipping prices from Hawaii or not.

North Augusta, ON

Beautiful plants. I have learned something new...ebay and ebay.ca are two different entities. Do we have to register separate at each? And do you think he ships to Canada? Thanks, LeeAnne

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

i've been lusting after his var. fishtail palm but if I buy that, DH would have a major fit

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

Yea i saw that too, but to rich for my tastre right now.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

His shipping prices are very honest. It is foolish to make money shipping...and I know he charges for the actual weight plus the cost of the box if he has to buy one. His plants are large...and USPS does not make LARGE Long boxes!!!

Yes...I like that var. fishtail too...didn't know he had it!!! Gotta get one next week when I go up there!

Carol

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I put my zip code in just to check the shipping charges on one of his plants and I was surprised to find it was quite reasonable, $6.00 and change as I recall. That is pretty good for a large plant that has to fly from HI clear to SC.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

It depends on the plant size. The heliconia in the first listing is a good size and probably pretty heavy. Shipping to Florida is 23.00 which is probably reasonable from Hawaii.

When calculating shipping...anywhere in the US from Hawaii is from the most expensive column on the rate sheet...doesn't matter if California or New York. I ship to the mainland USA as well and I often forget to put in the cost of the box which can sometimes be 3 or 4$$$ for the large boxes!!!

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Ahola:
Won't most average size plants fit in the largest priority mail triangle tubes. I have shipped some pretty good size plants in those already unless they have large hard branches. Most will fold up nicely in them and protect the branches. The largest is about 3 ft long.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Yes...the long tubes work for some...but a 1 gal pot won't fit...nor will any of the larger (6" or 8") round pots. When faced with the decision...I will sometimes bareroot but that is a lot of work...fixing the rootball so it survives....and some plants don't like it. Shipping is always very controversal - Many people don't mind paying 30$ for 2 small plants from Asiatica but they scream at 16$ for 6lbs of plants from Hawaii FedEx!!!

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

I'm always happy to pay extra shipping rather than get plants bare root and wind up loosing leaves due to stress.

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

AAAAARGH! Carol, you made me do it.
Guess what I bid on?............... Betcha can guess........

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

New Guinea Black Ti?

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Close, the copper-colored ti. I have a bronze-colored ti and the 2 near a sunny window with the light pouring through would look amazing, I think.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

YES! I love that one too. It was named after one of his daughters!!! Good for you!

st pete, FL(Zone 10a)

I just bought 3 ti plants from him. He gave me an estimate on s/h and then refunded me $$ from the actual price. He seems like a really nice guy. Even dropped me a note telling me where the ti sports are from. I haven't received my plants yet but so far so good!!

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

OK, they just listed a whole load more plants and i dont know if I can control myself this time. This guy has the best listings on the net.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

bb, so you're the one that outbid me!!!! I won't bid anymore but keep me in mind next year for cuttings. LOL

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Why don't you just write him to buy direct?

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Oh Ardesia, I am sorry!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh, don't fret, it is nice to know someone who really loves plants is bidding and I didn't need another plant anyhow . We are having the strangest cold weather and I just may have to bring a lot of my babies inside this year. Panic is setting in this week. It is supposed to be back in the 70's by the weekend but it sure is chilly today.

Hope you win the Ti.

Clare, you are VERY right!!! And I will make him aware of it... I couldn't agree with you MORE!!!! I am sending him your post (no names included, of course).

Brian, Great pic's
I have a question
Can just one plant leaf mutate on a EE plant?
i have a EE that seems to have just one leaf that is strange looking .
I thought I had taken a pic of the other one that emerged that looks totally normal, but it didn't. I also thought that this one would flatten out or change once it got a little bigger but it hasn't.

I took this pic, about 3 or 4 weeks ago,
I don't know what kind of EE it is and was going to try to identify it but I think I will let it grow and see what it does.

Thanks, Carol, for supporting me and my position. I really appreciate that. I apologize if I came across a bit harsh earlier, but I am passionate about this subject as I too have come across my pictures on eBay, and it feels like a violation. Thanks for being so nice:-)

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Clare,
You can report the misuse to Ebay and they will pull the auction and warn the poster.
"Using anyone's pictures or item description besides your own is against eBay policy. Unless it's your own photo or you have permission to use it, you may be violating eBay's policy and the law."

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I have talked to Troy who is devastated by what he did!!! He is new to the ebay world and even the computer world.... Hawaii can be isolated and bit behind. There is an impression of some new to the internet that pictures etc. are public domain.....I have to admit that I only had awareness of this trespassing when someone used my photos and it was called to my attention. You can bet it won't happen again...and he wrote an apology which I forwarded on to Clare.

Carol

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Sounds like he made an honest mistake and took care of it.
I've found mine on other sites before and have had a TON of problems dealing w/ them

Like his stuff Carol.
I may be doing some Spring buying there.

Ric

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, everyone. All is well. A mistake was made and has been rectified, and I am grateful. Troy has my respect for addressing the problem graciously, and I would trust him as a seller for his integrity. And Carol has to be one of the nicest Dave's Garden members that there is:-)

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Aw...shucks. Thanks. I am in very good company here!!!

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Carol for the heads up on noveltyg, I checked him out and had to close out the ebay window because I was about to order something. I did make him one of my favorite sellers, I know I will be bidding on his plants, they look wonderful.
