The salty waters of Lake Pontchartrain that flooded New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina killed many trees in New Orleans, particularly the trees that sat in the water for several weeks as did the ones in New Orleans City Park.
In the City Park Botanical Garden there is a two-block long archway of sweet olive trees on both sides. Because the trees have such beautiful structure and are still very sturdy, though dead, the Park has not removed them. Lack of funds and labor are other reasons for them still being there.
However, they are now sprayed white for the Christmas in the Oaks event and will look even lovelier at night with the clear lights in them. Below is a photo.
Trees in their Afterlife
This one might win the prize for best bark although Vv might argue that they would have been better off not limbed up. Poke, jab, jab ~ j/k! Sorry to see such a nice row of plants ruined like that.
Regards,
Ernie
But it is quite beautiful. I like the bit of humor and frivolity in the face of such devastation. God bless y'all down there! I hope things come around more fully and quickly than anyone would dare to dream.
