Lost all my Forums on the list on my Home Page!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

For as long as I have been on DG, I have never messed around with any of the "Prefferences" through my Subscription tab. Everything I needed was just there! Well, because I was trying to help someone else out to navigate all the settings, I decided to check them all out myself and "update" a few things. There is a list of all the Forums that are on DG under the "Forums" heading. It says you can click on any of them that you want to appear on thour "Home page". So, I did and clicked on "submit".

I not only lost all the Forums I had had on my "Welcome Home" page, I now have a handfull of Forums from other areas of the country I do not have anything to do with. I think, before, I had all the Forums that I was "watching" listed there. I also seem to have lost any of the actual Forums I was "watching" as nothing has come up when I check it in the last 2 days. What happened and what do I need to do to get back to what interests ME???

Thank you! Gita

I don't know what happened, but try going to one of your favorite forums via the "Gardening Forums" tab at the top of your home page... When you get to the forum, click on the link at the top to add this forum to your favorites... and then go back to your home page to see if it's there. It's an inelegant solution, more of a "brute force" method, but it might let you "watch" some of your favorites in the meantime.

Did you accidentally disable your favorite forums watcher? That's the only thing I can think of that would take them all away at once. There is another feature recently added to the homepage that is the most recent threads that have been posted too. Is that what you are seeing now that has the forums listed that you have never watched?

MGH,

Yes. Those are the Forums I am seeing on my Home Page---the newly posted on. I really do not need to see what someone has posted on a Forum I have never followed. Can this be disabled? .

Disable my Favorite Forums watcher?? NOT intentionally. Is that also under my "Prefferences"? I will go back and look.

Critter,

I will try to do what you suggested. I never clicked before on any Forums to add to my Favorites! Weird, how I just go from poitn "A" to point "B" and never notice all the other stuff?

Will post to let you know if anything improved.

If you go into your preferences and then to customize your homepage, you will see a spot to move things around on your homepage. It's quite handy to be able to move things around on there.

Will be watching to see if you get your forums back.

MGH,

This is where all this stands at this time.

On my "Home" page, the main window that you see is the one where all the "most recently posted" Posts are on--maybe 10-12 of them? On the right of that, and all squished up (have to slide the bar over to even see them) are all the checked Posts--my "favorites".

I would like to get rid of the "Most recently...etc" posts. Do you have a quick answer as to how to do that? I will go hunting again in the "Customize" section and see if I can uncheck it somewhere.

After that, I think I will be back to normal......if there is anything "normal" about me....:o)

Thanks, Gita

Gita, you can choose to "disable" any of the items that appear on your home page - it's the first option in the pulldown list on the "customize" page.

Items in the right-hand column are presented in a narrow section, while items in the left-hand column occupy a wider space.

I use the left-hand column for dmail alerts, watched threads, favorite forums, most -recent forums and new subscribers in the left-hand column.

I use the right-hand column for some admin tools, plus the random image, voting booth, and birthdays.

Before you completely ditch the "newest posts" you might reconsider leaving it in a lower position on your homepage for a few days. A lot of folks (including me) have found it helps you connect with DG members you might not see otherwise, and engage (or lurk) in threads that are of interest, but were posted in forums outside your normal "stomping grounds."

Terry,

I fee loke a real "doofus" here! All this started when I was trying to tell Frank (Herbie) how he could post his photo on his Home page. And then I started messing around with mine!

OK! I went to "customize your Home Tab" where all the posts are listed and you can choose the locations in Column #1 or Column #2 and the positin --1,2,3,4,5, etc.
When you said "consider leaving it in a lower position" did you mean as #6 or #7 in a Column?

It seems no matter what I have done, when I go back to my Home Tab all the old stuff is where it always was. And yes, when I changed something, I hit the "submit/update" at the bottom.
In my Col. #1--there are 5 lines. In Col. #2, there are 4 lines. What happens when I choose, say, position #6 in either column but there is no more that only the 5 and 4 lines showing.??? Where does #6 and #7 and #8 go?
I am really confused!

OK! I won't delete the "latest posts", but I do not want it where it is! I want my "favorites" back on the main screen and nothiong "squished" on the left!!! Waaaa...Waaa...Waaa.....

Thanks, Gita

The higher the number, the lower the position: 1 is at the top, 2 is next, etc. I don't think it matters if you skip some numbers (it may leave a little space, I really don't know.)

And yes - I'd encourage you to try dropping the "newest" posts to appear just beneath whatever you normally see at the bottom of your home page. If you don't like it/don't use it, you can always disable it.

Sorry, Gita, I've had a busy morning. Hope you are able to get things where you want them.

Still no change in my Home Page appearaance! When I open the "Home" tab above, the "Last Posts" screen is right there in my face, while all my Favorites are squished up" on the right side next to it.

All I want is to put the "latest" post-thing out of sight so my Favorites will be right there when I open the "Home" screen. Nothing I do under the "customize" tab seemt to affect this.

Sorry I am so dence! What am I missing here??????

Gita, go back to the page in my preferences where you can choose columns and positions. I don't know how you got it there, but your favorite forums is in Column 2 right now and you need to change it back to column 1, then give it a low position number to make it show up near the top (and make sure that the recent threads which you want at the bottom of the page has a higher position number than your forum favorites, that way things will show up in the order you want them)

Ercane!

I am having the "AHAAAA" moment here!!!!! Thank you for enlightening me!

I was understanding that the "lower position" would be lower on the page--NOT lower in the number!!!!!
To me--#1 was the "highest position" and #6 would have been the "lowest" one. This seemed logical, as I was thinking high and low being as they as they appeared on my Home Page. Some backward logic here! AHHHHHAAAAAAA!

Thank you for taking the time to look into my Personal information to help me out with this. I am now going to try to do it the correct way. Will let you know if it worked!!!

Here's another thing that was throwing me off.........

I was confusing what comes up when I click on the "Home" tab at the top to what comes up when I click on my name---thinking THAT was my "home page"......Dahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

LOL, Gita! Did you get it all figured out then?
