can someone from murfreesboro tn. shed some light?

i guess i had better start at the begining,
last summer my dh received a call from his son,who he lost contact with thirteen years ago, since that time he was married so we flew them out(he is 27 and she is 20) for the reunion,they told us they were comming out broke,we didnt mind we took them site seeing all over san francisco and napa and the coastal area's.
we felt sorry for the kids we took them shopping,and tryed to show them a real good time.
there manners to say the least,they never asked if i might of needed help.or if they could do anything, it was all about telling us they needed cigarettes or we need a new color ink cartrige twice.
i had found out that he had got himself in trouble a while back on selling drugs and had a fellon on his record,she on the other hand, i had gotten the impression that she wanted to stay at home and not work,thease kids portrayed tenessee as;there is nothing to do here but sell drugs go to jail and work at the waffle house .
they made us see there home town as the darlings on the andy griffith show, we sent them home with 250.00 we kept in contact but they still swear that tenessee has such a strick law about not hiring a fellon and that there is absolutly no work,they have moved into a trailor park and the landlord is fixing it up and is evicting the fellons out.
i simply cannot believe that there is nothing to do and that there is no work,i believe we made a big error,spending freely i think they got the wrong message ,i heard from them today and i think it was going to be a help us out call ,which i didnt let him ask, i think the kids are pulling our leg and are simply lazy, please some input would be appreciated, i dont mind sending money if they need it but im not going to support them! i understand that every city has its good points and bad but its hard when you live so many states away

As far as I know, there's no law on the books (certainly not on a local level) that restricts an employer from hiring a felon if they wish to. I'm not up on the laws here, but unless they're applying for work with the City of Murfreesboro, the city would have nothing to say about who hires them.

Any employer anywhere - to a certain extent - can set their own standards for hiring who they want, including hiring (or refusing to hire) convicted felons. It is a typical question on an employment application, but answering "yes" won't necessarily keep you from getting a job - it just depends on the employer and the position you're applying for. Lying on your application is generally grounds for dismissal if/when the falsehood is discovered.

Welcome to my world. I have a daughter with a boyfriend beyond belief. He WILL not look for a job, says the same thing, and its florida. After two years and about 16K..I found out the hard way..you cant help anyone that wont help themselves. I have heard every cop-out known to man. I want to vomit im so sick of it. Yes..you cant get a job with the school board...probably a few other places, but you can get work. You are entering into a world that will physically wipe you out. NEVER send cash...NEVER. If you feel they need something..pay to have the electricity turned back on, Send something without the tags, they cant return for cash. Thats just my two cents worth. And that two cents cost me a fortune! Good luck.

i do appreciate all your thoughts, and i am sorry for all you have been through,thats alot of greif you have had to endure.

it took me a year to figure out that something was not right,and i am all new to this behavior

i thought about gift cards,from department stores grocery stores ect...i think the most irritating thing they told me this last phone call was she cant get a job because of the drug testing,and wants to come to california for better opportunity's..lol

well she better think again, they can stay where the are!!!!!

lizrainey: glad to see you finally saw the light. I knew someone who was on drugs and knew every trick in the book. She would get her food stamps and sell them then went to the local churches to get food. The school gave her gift cards for school clothes, she sold them for money for drugs.She knew every trick to get her drug money. Change your phone nbr & write them off for your own sanity.

DO NOT let them come to CA. It will be the same "thing" there. No one will hire me, everyone is against me. They are users and you do not want to get sucked any further into their game. You do not have to be used. Believe me, there are plenty of jobs in TN. It may not be what they want, but the jobs are there. Isn't it amazing that after 13 yrs. he suddenly remembers that he has a father. That means they have run thru every family member and friend they can sponge off or borrow off or beg off and their family and friends have gotten tired of it, so now they are looking for new, fertile ground (YOU). Don't get sucked any further into their "poor us" routine. Tell them flat no they are not welcome to come to your home and suck up on you. Y'all have lived without them for 13 yrs. you can do it for another. My son and stepson are junkies. My son has just separated from his wife (not because of drugs, but because he doesn't like to work) and has moved to Nashville to live with his uncle who owns a sheetrock company. When he came to me to whine about they are having troubles, I let me know right off that he was 44 and he was not coming back here to live again. My stepson is serving time in a FL prison unttil 2010 because he separated from his wife because of drugs (he had a good job and lots of side jobs as a carpenter), moved to FL, got hight on 10/30/05, broke into his mother's sisters apt, and when she woke up and confronted her, he beat her almost to death. I have let him know too that he is not welcome around my house again, and knowing his feelings about me, I would take him as a hostile person and would take appropriate action he negate the threat of him. If he would so that to his aunt, I can imagin what he would do to me. I am 64 and he is in late 30's. Good luck holding your resolve to not have anything more to do with either of them.
