Cattle Panel Hoophouse, Part 2

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I think humidity has a lot to do with what you are describing. Or lack of it. For one thing, it is pretty darned hard to bring a plant into a warm house from outside and keep it from dropping leaves. My house is just too warm for that. I vacuumed up a lot of leaves from a Jasmin that I brought in. I just don't see how unless maybe I cut it way back and start over.

Any suggestions Punkin?

I think that is a possibility Jnette. The environment inside is so much different from the outside. Less light, humidity, air movement, rainwater.. I'd probably drop my leaves too if I were a plant. But they do adapt. That is what made me wonder if the replacement leaves are somehow geared to interact better with the change?

I know I have an angel wing begonia that spends the whole summer outside and when I bring it inside it always looses a few leaves but then it settles down and no more drop off.

Molly, my Angel Wing Begonia does the very same thing. They love it outside don't they. So pretty when they come in. But, I think they store up water in their pulpy stems and leaves. But even now, after being in the house a couple of weeks, it keeps getting new growth and blossom clusters.

I have to admit though that I put that plant in my bedroom which I don't heat, and in front of a window with a southern exposure so it does get light, and it does not get the dry heat.

Mine is in a stair landing with a huge bay window facing south. Lots of light, even cactus like it. It's got a blossom cluster so heavy it pulls the stem down. I've never tried it in the greenhouse. Maybe next year I will. Space in there is always at a premium so if something does okay in the house I don't put them in there.

Which one is it Molly? They are really nice, but I can't seem to get them going in time to bloom before frost. But, then I see you guys in zones colder than my 5 having them blooming and don't know what I am doing wrong.

"Which one is it Molly?" I was referring to my angel wing begonia blooming. If you mean which cactus we have a prickly pear in that window that blooms with huge yellow flowers.

No, I thought you were talking about a brug.

No I'm new to brugs this year. First ones ever are the two in my kitchen.

Jnette.. do you grow your brugs in pots or do you put them in the ground?

I just had to say that I love everyone's GH pics! I am gonna make my own small one this weekend, but it will be nowhere close to what you all have! Misty

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Jazz, I have done both. It depends on whether I want to keep them or not. But, I still don't get any blooms. They are all normally covered with buds when the frost hits. One year I had one with a lot of blooms on it. I had put it in a holy 5 gallon pot inside a muck bucket. It did real well but I did that again this year with a different brug and it had the buds but not in time to bloom before frost. My daughter says I treat them to good because they are beautiful lush green plants but no blooms. I don't give them a lot of nitrogen.

Misty, PLEASE do keep us posted on your GH. Don't worry about size. We all started out small like you are.

hmm.. what kind of fert do you give them? I only fertilize mine once a year if that. I think that fear of death makes them bloom.. lol

Good luck Misty! Can't wait to see it :-)

Hye Misty! What kind of GH are you building?? We wanna see!!!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone! I will post a pic when I have it done. That is, if I can find my way back here! LOL

Be sure to put us on your watch list Misty. That will get you here.

Thanks. I do have it that way, but if someone hasn't posted lately I still seem to have a hard time making my way around at times. :(

You'll figure it out. It takes a bit of practice. Actually, you can just go to "my info" at the top of the headers and click on "threads I am watching", and it will be there.

Jazz, I think you are going to have to start a new part. This is taking my dial up forever.

LOL..OK I can do that.. I think I started this last time becasue it was getting long even though it wasn't my thread.. :) Here we go
