Very nice and they get this great fall color here when the temps start dropping.

It's an all-around great shrub, I love the beautiful berries....and the birds love eating them!

I have a question .... How far back can you prune them to keep them in shrub form? I want to keep my standard Firebush more compact. Where I have it, there is not room for it to get 6-10' tall and wide. At the time I purchased mine, I didn't know there was a dwarf version. I really like the looks of the one I have and I don't want to kill it by pruning it too far back.

Honestly, here in Florida I don't think you can prune anything back too far. I have taken bushes down to just the main stalks and have had them recover nicely. I don't think you will have any problem keeping it cut if you can give up the flowers for the hummers. I would not even be considering chopping mine back except I have another one the hummer can feed from while the big one recovers.

gardenpom - Oh good idea to have 2! I might just do that! Prune one back while the other is blooming! Thanks!

Missed the cat question earlier...no, I have never seen any caterpillars on my Firebush, but I rarely see any cats in my yard, probably because I have so many anoles around. I do see Butterflies feeding from it occasionally.
