Streps in Bloom
I don't own any I am sorry to say. Those are really pretty flowers.
Nancy,
Love those blooms! I'm going to have to get one someday :-)
Sharon
Thanks for the compliments everyone. : ) They have both been blooming like crazy for the past month and I am still seeing new buds forming. I should have a few babies to happily share in the spring of both with my fellow DG'ers : )

Beautiful blooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All so very, very pretty!
Those are really lovely, Nancy!! Good growin!!
I have a couple of Bristol varieties as well! Streps must be pretty happy plants because my mother manages to grow them too (and she has a black thumb). She picked these up at the big fall plant festival at the USF Botanical Gardens. The local AV society and the Gesneriad Club set up a booth together. Nice people and you get to buy varieties you don't see everywhere. Below is Bristol's Black Cherry.
they are all beautiful!
Gorgeous!!!
I have a little baby of 'Party Girl' that's still a long way from first bloom, I think. When we were down in NC, I picked up this lovely... 'Iced Amethyst Show-Off'. I didn't even know that there were streps with variegated leaves! If we had been heading home from Winston-Salem rather than going to the beach for a week and a half, I would have indulged in some new AVs also, and I'm regretting not picking up a little 'Iced Pink Flamingo' that she had also.... But I'm delighted with my new purple one!!
Here it is at the beach. My MIL found the perfect container for it... a vase that her mother used for years to make altar arrangements! She didn't offer at first, and I didn't ask, but after the plant had sat around all week looking gorgeous in this vase, she packed it up that last morning and told me I had to take it along. She's a lovely lady! :-)
Oh, I should add that I trimmed back a couple of damaged leaves and put leaf cuttings down from them... I hope some of you are propagating yours also! We will have such fun with spring trades! (I need another plant stand... again) ;-)
Beautiful blooms everyone. Nice job.

What BEAUTIFUL Plants! I got three little Strep's from a DG'er for postage last week and bought my first little one from Rob's Violets that came in the mail yesterday. I can't wait for them to grow and bloom. I think if I can keep these alive, I will be hooked! They are so gorgeous! I have about 10 AV's but this is my first try at Strep's. I also bought 3 Chirita's from Rob's Violets. I need to read more about the Strep's and Chirita's to make sure I take proper care of them. Hope to trade with some of y'all some day!
Thanks for sharing all your nice photo's!
Lin
Just gorgeous! I am not very good w/ them but sure wish I was.
Jill you lucky thing- you know I love variegated plants!!!
Something I noticed in the photo's .... I didn't realize Strep's had such large leaves! Maybe the ones I got in trade are mini's?? One is called 'Concord Blue' and I think the other two are white .... but they all have real tiny leaves!
The one I bought at Rob's Violet's ( 'Cantebury Surprise' ) does have a bit larger leaves than the 3 that I got in trade. But, nothing like the ones in you all's photo's!
I just Love that 'Bristol's Black Cherry' and also that 'Bristol's Blue Bird' !!! I've never really been partial to blue flowering plants before, but have found some I that I REALLY want, just from seeing some of the photo's folks here at DG have posted!
Lin
Lin I am not an expert but I have noticed that some have larger leaves than others. How tiny is tiny?
'Concord Blue' is a Streptocarpella, which I think is a hybrid. It does have soft little leaves, and smaller blooms, and sort of a floppy, trailing habit. I found out about it when I brought one home from the LGS last month! I've recently discovered that cuttings will root nicely in just a glass of water... good to know!
Some of the strep leaves do get huge, and the ones on mine are pretty floppy, which is why I think it looks so great in that elegant urn-shaped vase. I think I've heard that you can trim the leaves back if you have space issues, and the plant will still bloom...
plantladylin - Are you sure your Concord Blue is a streptocarpus and not a streptocarpella? if so, quite a bit different with small about 1" velvety leaves.
Variegated streptocarpus Canterbury Surprise can become a nice large plant in time.
LOL...critter and I typing at the same time.
Just Beautiful,Mellie,DonM,Critter. Those are all so gorgeous! : )
When I bought mine, it was labeled "Streptocarpus," but the only "Concord Blue" I found when I looked for more info online was a Streptocarpella... and the photos definitely matched my plant!
My 'Party Girl' strep is still very small, but I think it will grow up to be one with big leaves. The longest leaf can't be much more than 2 inches now... but it has several leaves now and is definitely starting to grow! It was a tiny start when I got it, and it actually lost one of its two leaves but hung on for months with a single half-inch leaf in the pot. I hope it continues to do well, as it'll be such fun to watch it grow up!
I was googling for an image of it just now and discovered it's actually 'Bristol's Party Girl', one of Rob's hybrids... Here's a link to Rob's photo of it https://www.robsviolet.com/party_girl.htm

april - You will like B's Sunset as it is a very reliable bloomer.
mrsbonnie - We need pictures!
Beautiful plants y'all, I love the Dibley's Crystal Beauty and Bristol's Sunset. I recently got to go to a woman's house that sells Streps on ebay and raises them in her basement. She had about 100 stock plants, but at that time she was low on babies for sale. I picked out one named 'Paper Moon' that I fell in love with, but she did'nt have one for sale. It was awesome to see all of the blooming plants in one place. I got a few very small plants, none are blooming. It was real interesting though to see the propogating process. She takes a leaf, splits it down the middle and removes the large vein. She then places the leaf horizontally into the soil about 1/4". Babies popped up along the leaf at the veins. She must have had at least 30 babies on one leaf. It was pretty amazing as I had never seen it done before. I've never had much luck with Streps until recently when I bought one that was in a clay pot. That was the secret - the clay pot kept me from drowning the poor thing and it flourished, now I look like I know what I'm doing. I've always admired the beautiful blooms, if you have the room some can get quite large and beautiful.
SusanGa - Did you go to Kathy's? The B's Sunset shown is growing in a clay pot but I do grow them in plastic also. I alter the soil mix depending on what type of pots are being used.
