the most annoying job in the kitchen is

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

cleaning out the gold mesh coffee filter that came with my new westbend coffeepot. i hate those things. i tried using the paper cone filters, but it overflowed several times, so i gave up and began using the one that came with it. i have a septic system so i really don't want grounds going down the drain, but trying to get them all into the garbage is such a pain. they end up under my fingernails, etc. anyway, that's my gripe for today!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

The most annoying job in MY kitchen is trying to get the 13 year old to do it and do it correctly! LOL

I try to throw my coffee grounds in the shade garden. Sometimes someone else beats me to the coffee pot and dumps them.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I have a nylon mesh reusable coffee filter and love it. Most annoying job for me is throwing away all the garbage - I do everything else - is it too much to ask?

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i've always thrown my grounds out into the garden, but this thing even makes that job harder. i used to have a big bowl and i'd put a couple days worth in, then take them out. i want to know how to get the darn things out of the basket without a struggle! LOL probably no good answer to that one.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

annoying job?: emptying the dishwasher. Can't explain why, just don't like to do it.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

I hear ya, vossner... doesn't flip my skirt either. :(

Of course, high on my list of "yucks!" is also cleaning the fridge and oven.

Don Ü

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

I REALLY dislike cleaning the floor. Not sure why, I mean really it is no big deal, but I get annoyed doing it.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I use a Hoover Steamvac to clean the floors. I use hot water and Lysol in it. With pets and kids, it's a must have! Only bad part is that you still have to get the corners the old fashioned way-on your knees with a sponge. Sigh.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

I'll admit to having a dishwasher, but refusing to use it.

I'm the only one who would load it and unload it, I'm the
only female in the house and all of the guys here are blind
and helpless. (Insert smug face)

My dishwasher is a storage unit. Yep, that's right. The
silverware holders are used as light bulb storage. The
racks hold foil, plastic wrap, waxed paper and such.
The other racks hold sandwich bags, gallon and pint
bags, paper bags, you name it.

Okay, so on to the most annoying job in the kitchen?

Cleaning up the stove after someone else. I HATE grease
in the kitchen, and it never fails. Hubby will slap the old
frying pan on the stove every Sunday morning and make
a big mess. He may wipe up, but he doesn't get it clean.
At a glance he thinks it is clean, but then when you stand
at a certain angle you can see all the spots.

Ugh!

Let's not talk about the floors, with 4 pumpkins they are constantly in and out. basketball, football, playset...dirt, sand, and grit on the wood floors. I don't mind sweeping, don't mind vacuuming, but maintaining the polish, NOW that's one thing I find annoying!!! ;0)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

We rarely if ever go out to eat so I cook a lot. Burner pans and stove knobs! I refuse to use aluminum foil on the burner pans and yea, I'm pretty geeky about splatters on the knobs and such. The stove is so "out there" to see, so I'm forever cleaning all of them; probably twice a week.....and it get's old and boring.

But I love to clean the frig - wierd, eh?

Dea

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Wuvie you might got something there with your storage unit! Boy I'd love to see the look on my hubbies face if he opened the dishwasher door and found "storage" instead of clean dishes (he has been banned from placing anything IN the dishwasher). LOL

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

What is it about UN-loading the dishwasher? I thought I was the only one with this gripe...anything else is just another kitchen job....but I absolutely hate to take clean dishes out and put them away...figured that there was something really weird wrong with me.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

My pet peeve and annoyance with the kitchen is all the stuff that gets thrown on the counters and left for me to deal with. Mail that has been opened and just thrown all over without being so much as put back in the envelopes, school stuff, tools, notes......etc. etc.

I don't mind cleaning the fridge either Dea. Sometimes it's interesting to see what you will find in there and what it's morphed into. :)

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i use my dishwasher as a drainer. i wash the dishes and stack them in there to dry since it's right next to me at the sink. i always leave the door open a little and hang my dishtowel over the door to dry and the next day i put them away. just as if i were using it properly, i hate putting them away.

bigcityal, why do you love your mesh filter? how do you clean it? is there a trick i don't know about?

Just hate to take dishes out of dishwasher and put them away... Thought "I" was the only one who hated it...
Just wanted to add that I like to clean my stove top. It is a glass top range. Since I have had it I think I want to keep my whole kitchen cleaner... It still looks good after 2 &1/2 years...

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

I agree...I don't enjoy unloading the dishwasher. Most of the time my DH does this task.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, Joan, I feel your pain.

When I go to bed at night, my kitchen counter should
be clean. Often I go to bed early, and when I wake up, part
of my "It's going to be a wonderful day" is walking into a clean
kitchen to get coffee.

Imagine the horror when I find that all three guys stayed up
past my bedtime and made a mess in the kitchen!

BAAAAAD idea, boys!

I wish I had a dime for every time I've said "FILE IT, DON'T PILE IT!"

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I used to hate cleaning out the dishwasher, but it gives me something to do after I press "on" on the coffeemaker. (Otherwise it's an eternity until that first cup is ready.) So that job isn't on my top ten list of most-dreaded jobs. Mmmmmm, that would be (in no particular order).....

cleaning out the fridge
cleaning and reorganizing the freezer
defrosting the deep freezer
cleaning the burner grates and drip pans on the stove
reorganizing (for the umpteenth time) the drawers and pantry (love it when they're all done, though)
cleaning all the cabinet doors
cleaning/sanitizing the trashcan
cleaning out beneath the kitchen sink
cleaning the stuff on top of the cabinets
changing the halogen light bulbs

Yep...there's my top ten most dreaded. I'll be happy to mop anyone's kitchen and unload their dishwasher in exchange for knocking off a couple from my list!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Well, I have to admit, I hate any kind of house work... that includes anything in the kitchen. However, if I must pick the worst job in the kitchen it would be cleaning the refridgerator. I could list many more... but I think that is my most detested task.

Donna

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I hated washing dishes by hand. I won't admit to getting tired of loading/unloading the dishwasher, but I'll never stop using it!!!

I hate washing the sinks. Ick, and cleaning the stove.

Favorite job is the laundry even tho you didn't ask.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Cooking, can't stand it anymore. Cleaning is totally good by me; don't mind cleaning the stove, fridge, dishwasher, floor, etc, but hate cooking. Thank goodness, DH likes to cook.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

I don't know if this counts but I am a clutterer. My kitchen always looks messy unless I do a major cleanup. Which I hate to do! Which I have to do right now!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Erynne,

I can understand that. I cooked for my ex everyday for 13 years. It got old. When I met my current husband I told him up front that I was NOT the domesticated type. Thank goodness he likes to cook like your hubby does, otherwise, it would be sandwich city.

Take care,
Donna

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

my most annoying kitchen clean up is the SIMPLE fact it NEVER ends!!! all tasks become hideous because you have to do them all every time you turn around!!!!

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Wuvie, you said all the guys in your house is "blind". Maybe that is why they make such a mess. LOL

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Dusting the cobwebs off the stove is the only real chore in my kitchen but it has to be done at least once a year before I can cook the big turkey dinner and then forget how to cook for another year.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

ROTFLMBO!!!

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Donna, your situation sounds like mine. When I was married the first time around, I was like the cooking goddess and always had a decent meal ready for the dude. I sure changed when I divorced and lived those 3 yrs on my own. The kids would be with their dad half the time as they are now, and I'd eat toast with peanut butter & bananas for dinner when it was just me. When I met my current hubby, I laid it straight about my apathy towards cooking and not to have any expectations. He was fine with it except said he couldn't cook much unless hotdogs & hamburgers on the BBQ counted. So I showed him how to make casseroles, side dishes, baked goodies, full course meals, etc......and said it's all yours dear, have fun (took about 6 months training). Every once in a while I cook but it's usually 3 batches at once of stuff to freeze for when we're on the run (soups, stews, chili, pasta sauces).
Hope no one thinks I'm bad or lazy because I detest this kitchen duty but it's just a part of me that I lost along the way :o)

LOL@ Zany!!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL

or you could do what I did! Marry a Chef! they do all the cooking! LOL

However that does mean I do all the cleaning!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Some of us like to cook and some don't. If it's fine with the family, have it your way!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Cleaning the inside of the microwave. A close second is cleaning the knobs and drip pans of the regular stove.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

JUST WAIT A MINUTE, MAGOO..........

My husband married a Certified Executive Chef...ME, and I do all the cooking......But guess what, I do all the prep and the clean-up. Where oh where did I go wrong????

Hap

My nightmare is cleaning up after a dinner, whether it be the 2 of us or 40. To me that's the pits.

I'm retired now, but when I was working, cooking was a snap.

Someone would iron the linens
Someone would set the tables.
Someone would serve the food.
Someone would get the extra servings.
Someone would clear the table.
Someone would do the pot and pans and put them away.
Someone would wash the dishes
Someone would put the food away.
Someone would clean the kitchen and shut it down for the night.

WHY WOULD I NOT LIKE TO COOK.....IT'S THE GREATEST!!!!!

Now, that SOMEONE, is me.

Hap

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Kelli, that's one for me, too, but it's easy enough to close the door. :-) Knobs are a drag, too small. I don't mind unloading the dishwasher (if I load it, then it makes sense), but despise putting away silverware.

I won't stop using it - took to long to finally get one that worked. The last one I had worked, but the city water was so bad, the dishes came out dirtier than when they went in, so I used if as a wine/bottle juice rack.

(zanymuse, it's almost time to whoosh away those webs again; mags - I can't imagine my H making anything beyond a pot pie or TV dinner, but admittedly, he does those well. Now, getting the wrappings to the trash can....

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

:-)
Poor Hap.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Hap that is why I do most if not all the clean up because my DH is used to aomeone else doing what you listed above! LOL

He is the boss and he is good at bossing people around the kitchen too so it did not take long to learn to stay out when he is creating!

4Paws LMBO!!!! cannot get the wrappings in the trash! LOL

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

My kitchen has to be organized! I cook - or I starve everything has a place and it should be there - my biggest nightmare in the kitchen is figuring out where she put what!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Oh, Dyson, how many times my help got their hands slapped for not putting thngs away WHERE THEY BELONGED!!!!! I didn't like spending precious time looking for stuff when every minute was critical for serving. UGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

OK, Magoo...then my DH should do it.....yes? Will have to think about that.....

Hap

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

It only seems fair! When we entertain I do some small stuff food wise he does the rest.

I decorate - flowers table setting etc... and clean up! We make a pretty good team!
