And I was wondering, who else ordered these?
pardalium (spelling??) had a thread with pics of her beautiful Ed McRae seedlings
Ed McRae bulbs are here from PNWLS
How come you guys got your PNWLS bulbs already? Me? Boo hoo. I'm here crying, wishing I did too..... LOL!
Magnolia - you haven't gotten yours yet? I thought since you were in zone 5 that you would have gotten yours before me. Maybe you will get them in the next couple of days.
Thanks to some very wonderful people who bought some lilies from me on the lily auction I was able to spring for some new ones from the PNW sale! My box arrived today! I am doing a happy dance! I turned around for a couple of minutes when I got home to take the dog out and this is what I found ROFLOL!
Oh my, your kitty likes lilies too:-)
That's an adorable pic. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Maureen
Got mine Saturday and planted yesterday. I ordered Ed's mix also. You may not get seedlings like I showed before because the description was for a mix of asiatic seedlings that have passed through Ed's hands and that means you could get just about anything. That guy has been around for a loooong time working with lilies.
My kitty rolled around on my lily bulb bags too. There's just something about that earthy smell that turns kitties on!
It's supposed to get pretty cold the next couple of nights-- down to 22 they say. I put all my seedling pots in the greenhouse and harvested most of the rest of the pods tonight. I think I will be busy most of the winter evenings cleaning all of this seed!
Pardalinum - Brrrr. 22 deg. Tonight it was like 58 deg, balmy! I had no sweater on and it felt great. Please tell me where I can get those seedlings of Ed McRae like you have? I specifically went looking for this asiatics because of your pics. I sure wish I had a green house. do you have a pic of yours? Is it attached to your house?
Maureen
I wonder who my box got sent to? Doesn't it figure. It's probably because today was the most gorgeous planting day in the last month (68 degrees!), that's why it didn't come. Perhaps I was meant to plant in long underwear (clothes , of course on top of that), a down coat & my infamous black cashmere hat (that the feral cats around here must talk about & warn each other about).
So who got my box, Pard was it you?? Maureen, now fess up, it was you, NO Mainiac, it was YOU! You won't tell me now because it is your beautiful cat's new bed :0) lol.
I don't know where else these seedlings are available. Some people are looking for some of Chris North's hybrids and having a hard time. Maybe I should dig and scale them. They aren't in a good place anyway. But not till it warms up again!
I'll see if I still have a picture of my greenhouse. It is in the background of a lot of my seedling photos.
Mag - I have some bad news....there have been some reports of polly pockets hijacking bulb orders before the owner of the house even knows there was a delivery made!! Start looking around your house :-)
Pard - thanks for the reply. I did get a few of Chris North's hybrids from the Lily Garden. Does anyone else carry them? I haven't seen them listed at B&D or Buggycrazy. About the greenhouse, I'll look over some of the posts and see if I see it in any of your seedling pics.
Here is the whole thing such as it is. As you can see I have had to repair it a time or two! I built it myself. Much cheaper that way. It is 8' X 8'. For benches I use three sawhorses on each side, 1" X 2" slats across the sawhorses and hardware cloth over that. Then a couple of feet above that I installed brackets that support more slats and hardware cloth. With these two shelves on each side I have about 80 sq. ft. of shelf space. Nice for putting out my veggie and annual starts in the spring.
Polly Pockets could be the culprit. Uh-oh! I'm going to have to round them up and give my daughter the scissors again, "You think the first haircut was bad, you ain't seen nothin'. Where are my bulbs!??!"
Ed McCrae's bulbs were lovely and firm.....have all mine scaled from the PNWLS order and will be planting everything in the evenings this week and on the weekend....
Next year I'm joining the PNW lily society too!! All your bulbs sound lovely! Mainiac, what did you get??
It was beautiful here today and so I planted all my lily bulbs. Then we stripped some sod and dug and divided 4 ancient peonies. So, then I planted peony the rest of the day.... I'm one tired little Ticker tonight....
Diann
Hmm, what did I get? Let's see. I got three HUGE bulbs of Madame Butterfly. I already had it but really like this one! I got a bunch of Trogon. I love this lily and have been sharing this with some friends. Wanted more for myself also. (There appears to be a some confusion over the name of this one. I always called it Trogen. The booklet listed it as Trojen. So I looked it up on the registry and it is truly Trogon. This was a Warren Summers creation and he was originally from Conn. I met him at the new England Lily Society meetings a couple of times. Warren won a bunch of prizes at the regional show with this one.)
I also picked up Karen North (I am trying to collect North lilies), A couple of the new Lily Garden OT's. I love OT's. They do better here than others and they just seem to get better and better each year. I guess that was about it. Always thrilled with my box from PNW! So glad I could get a few this year as I had not expected to get anything new!
Hooray! My bulbs came today! The one that is the most impressive, Buggy Crazy sized, was one called Elise from Northwest Bulbs. The 3-pack was huge-normous. It weighed as much as the rest of the package put together. I should have gotten a McRae trumpet tetra green. Got the melon. Maybe spring?
Ticker, you'd love the catalog option you get with the PNWLS. The prices are great too. It's a connoisseur's must have! :0)
I'll get joined up for next year! :) This addiction of mine is so much fun! ;)
Diann
Pardalium - thanks for posting the pic of your greenhouse -- I'm quite impressed that you built it yourself. Very nice indeed. Now let me see if I have this right, Chris North uses mcRae's lilys in his hybridizing? Are your seedlings from a previous sale at the PNWLS? I wonder if I could contact Mr. McRae and ask him if there is anyplace or anyone I could get some of his seedlings from? I know he had a stroke, according to the Lily society booklet, I may send him a note.
Magnolia - those polly pockets struck again. Any haircuts taking place?? You crack me up.
esw - where do you plant your scales? (That sounds gross, doesn't it? lol) Inside or outside?
Diann - yes, you must get in on the next sale. It was so much fun and we got great bulbs at great prices. I love peonys and grow about 25 plants. Only 3 are named, the others are all un-named beauties!! Go get some rest, you sound really tired.
Mainiac - that Trogon is beautiful. I'm wasn't a huge fan of asiatics, but your pics are making me want more of them! I may try Madame Butterfly with my next order. (When does the next PNWLS sale take place??) I love the North Lilies also, which ones do you have so far? And which ones are on your "want list"?
Magnolia - yippee, you've received your order. So glad you got your bulbs:-)
Ticker - if you join the PNWLS now, they will give you the full next calendar year also I believe (they did for me and I joined in the beginning of Oct). So this way, you won't have to rush to join when the sale is announced.
==Now my plans for the weekend are to plant all of my lilys - about 50 bulbs total.
I have lots of places in my yard with part shade, can lilys grow ok in part shade?
Thanks
maureen, I plant the scales into a mix of peat/perlite which is only slightly moistened....in baggies to cover the scales and pack them into boxes.....I keep an eye on them to make sure they don't dry out or get too moist - every couple of weeks or so. In late January or Early February I wll put the boxes into the refrigerator for 3 months....then its out into the warm again when I fish the scales and bulblets and 'plant' them into pots.....they go outside for the spring/summer once the hard freezes have passed... Now that I have a nursery bed, I may just plant the scales directly into the bed this year to save a step....The key is being able to keep them from drying out too much that they go dormant, or allowing them to drown if the spring is wet....there is a bit more control in pots.
Maureen-- it's the other way around: Ed McRae had stock from the late Chris North. I don't know if Ed was working with Dr. North's material or what... I'm just glad some of it showed up in the sale last year! You will find that the offerings of the PNWLS change with each sale so what you see in one sale may not be in following sales. Makes it more interesting in my opinion, especially when they offer unnamed seedling material! Seems like the PNWLS Fall Bulletin should be out soon. Am looking forward to it. The next sale should take place in March I think.
