5 years ago, 8 of us bought a $250 US maartagon and then sent it to a lab to be TCed. Over 90% didn't work. We all ended up with one or 2 test tubes. Ah me. None have bloomed yet. Name of martagon was Wine Cup. Should dig around to see how much it is worth these days.

Concerning Martagons
duplicate. Sorry.

I don't understand what TCed means.....you mean one bulb cost $250.00??
tissue culture
duh! thanks
Yes....one bulb can cost $250. There are probably some that are even more.
As I was washing dishes tonight, I was thinking about this thread. (Sad isn't it.....I've got DG on the brain, and hadn't been able to check anything out yet today.) Anyway, It sort of reminds me of 'True Confessions'. We find a safe place to divulge our deepest plant secrets....which usually has a $$ by it. Outsiders just wouldn't understand. LOL
If you think this is bad, check out the hemaholics in daylily land! This where new intros can rarely be had for less than $100! Lilies are comparatively cheap! Does this make you feel better??

Lilies, daylilies, iris---sounds like a great way to spend my time "talking" when I can't be digging.
I wish some of you folks were neighbors of mine ;)
Neighbors? Aww.... it's depends on how you choose to think about it. lol There are only a few members around here, and I frequently drive 3 hours to see my 'neighbors' in Iowa. That's not so long to see friends, it is? :)
No, you're right, it's not too far. Your gardens always sound so inspiring, and the pictures..... It would be nice to have a lily-garden crazy neighbor, like myself. One of my neighbors loves gardening, like me, we often swap plants, so perhaps I am lucky to have just one in my view. I love plant talk! The winter just gets long with no "over the fence" plant chats. Good thing there's DG.
Hey, if you look you can find them--or just get your friends addicted! That's what I did--but I'll still willingly drive a few hours to see Moby, llilyfan or anahi!
It's neat you all found each other through DG. The IRU sounds like it will be wonderful. Will your iris be out then? I bet some will....
My dwarf and Intermediate should be blooming as well as other spring perennials & hundreds of spring bulbs.
I filled in some areas with Hyacinths that I got on sale, 35 bulbs for $3 I think, cheap anyway. I planted 40 in the flower bed right by our back door, it should be quite a site. Only 3 months away, hopefully :*)
I do hope to be able to purchase Claude Schride this spring if we can keep the pennies from flying out the door. Hey it's tax refund time!
Oh yes intercessor, and don't you have a new deduction? Your beautiful daughter?
If "cuteness" counts , Wanda, he counts! Ollie counts for Beak too.
Really, I think a guy did that a couple years ago and told his class ( a school teacher, no less) Busted!~ ;)
And speaking of tax refunds, everyone: don't forget the one time federal excise tax refund:
$30 single
$40 married
$50 married, one child
$60 married, two children
Yep. Marriage penalty hits again. Two "single" taxpayers living together get $60. Hubby & I are married so we only get $40. We get killed on taxes every year. I told him we should get divorced, live in sin & come out better on our taxes.
Oh, I agree on the penalty factor & I COULD get political here, but I'll be a good girl ;)
Yep, Wanda, it stinks. Living in sin looks better and better every year.
Sigh. Dh wants to stay married. I guess he likes us being an old pair of dinosaurs.
Cute, Wanda. Besides that, divorces can get messy when you have to divide up plants. LOL!
Nah. I get the garden. He gets the Harley, guns & dog. I grow it. He shoots it.
Here is my deduction when we went to the "Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes)" :*) It was so nice to walk around in a tropical jungle when it was 5 degrees out! Hmmmm, I didn't see any martagons though...

Awwwww, what a sweet picture. I bet it felt good in all that greenery & humidity. It's good for DD to see all that too. I can already see her helping you in the garden. She is really growing a lot.
Wanda, I get the whole garden too. DH just flies and flies and checks out the garden views from the sky in the Cessna.
Ohhhhhhhh.......that is such a sweet little tax deduction you've got there. Makes a person just want to squeeze those cute cheeks. (I'm talking about the little one.....not the one holding her.) LOL
I fly with him sometimes, not as much as I used to, but my daughters really love it. Sometimes I do, but for about 10 years now, have suffered from motion sickness, so I do it less than I used to. So you are a pilot? It's a fun, but expensive hobby to have. DH hasn't missed EAA Fly In in 30 years. That's right in your back yard!
Your DD is precious. Enjoy every moment....they grow up so quickly. Enjoy!
This marraige penalty thing is something I've never been able to get married people to explain.
Can't you be married and still file singly? Seems to me you can choose the best of either option.
Just a yes or no will suffice. Even a "yes, but it's not that simple" is enough. I don't want to be branded political either, but I just don't get it, at all.
I think you can file singley, but you're still married and get the penalty. Seems like one year we tried that. I think you'd have better luck on taxes adding your dogs, and cats or other critters than to figure that logic out ;0) Ugh.
Even that little bit is more than I have ever been able to get out of anyone. Thanks Mag. I guess I just hang around with a lot of dumb people, or I'm just too dumb. (No comments on that please.)
Hey, Lefty, you coming to the WI RU? I'm hoping to convince at least a couple fellow lily people to show up. It would be fun.
Nah, you don't hang out with dumb people, the tax thing is done this way to confuse all of us. And, it's working :( Ugh.
Re: Taxes penalty, In the past the standard deduction for married people was less than twice that of singles, also the 15% tax bracket for married people use to be less than twice that of singles. Both are now twice that of singles. There are still some situations where married people are held to the same limits as a single person, instead of being twice the limits.

Magnolia I have been a pilot for a few years but haven't logged hours in about 7 years. Just about every flight I would have to take a motion sickness pill, heck I probably could get sick riding a bicycle :*(
Those flights can cost 2 or 3 martagons!
Here is a pic looking towards Madison from about 15000ft., many moons ago...
Cool pix, intercessor. Flying is this *bug* that bit DH as a child, I think it is genetic in his case. Raised at a hanger, pretty much, at a small airport in rural Wi. The cost is astronomically high. Everything to do with flying is expensive. Don't have a plane, but boy is DH lucky to have a friend who lets him fly his plane whenever. Here's a shot of the rural scenery...
Flying makes martagon shopping seem pretty cheap.
I was looking at getting a cheap martagon RO Backhouse from the lilypad http://www.lilypadbulbs.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?cart_id=9872576.8965&pid=1230 but they list the size as being only10-12cm. Is this typical for marts?
Andy
They are usually smaller than the others.
Many of the species bulbs are smaller than what you would expect. This is not because they are not mature; it's just the way they are.
