Warning message when using the name Jesus

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I understand that we are not supposed to talk about certain things such as current events or religion on the forums. And I totally agree with that. However, I was trying to post a reply on the Prayer Requests forum and it kept giving me a warning telling me to read over my post to make sure I did not have any words misspelled that might be offensive language. I kept editting it over and over and could not figure out what was wrong. Then I decided to use the words "the Lord" instead of "Jesus" and the warning went away. So am I right or wrong in my understanding that the word Jesus cannot be used even in the Prayer Request forum? I just do not understand this. In my beliefs Jesus is the great healer, but yet I can't use his name? Could someone please tell me why? I know that in other forums it is not considered right to use His name but I was posting on a Prayer Request forum, on a thread that I started. I am very shaken up over this. Please someone help me understand this.

The important thing to note is that the message you got wasn't a "warning", per se, but a reminder that no profanity is allowed. Certain words trigger it (people in the pets forum who talk about their female dogs see the warning all the time, too). If you know there's nothing wrong with your post, by all means do ignore the warning.

One other thing - the system warning references the same list of words no matter what forum you're in - we can't/don't suspend it for one forum. The system can't "read" your post and know the context in which you're using a word. Unfortunately, certain religious words are frequently used as profanity; hence they are on the list that triggers a warning.

Interesting. Is the list accessible?

No.

plantcrazii did you get the warning when you send your post on this forum?

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I got it when sending it from both places. Both from this forum and from the Prayer Request forum.

I'm sure it's because sometimes the name Jesus is used in vain and slang, sadly. It probably had more to do with that than it did a religious connotation.

Just my opinion.

exactly right.

I will tell you a story...along these lines.

One time I took my mother to see the riverboat in Louisville. To get across the street you have to cross this road that can be terribly busy. This particular day, it was not. My mother, who walks slowly because of leg problems, and I were crossing back when all of a sudden a car came whipping from nowhere, speeding. Almost ran us down. I shoved my mother to the side of the road as I dove and yelled out "Jesus Christ." Being a religious person, I was so upset to have taken the Lord's name in vain....I went and talked to a friend at church about it. Told her the story and she said "You weren't taking the Lord's name in vain, you were screaming for Him to help you." It made me think and to this day, still does. :)

You're exactly right, Kathy! I've uttered His name similarly on more than one occasion when I thought a car wreck or other such disaster was imminent. We laugh about it now because one time it came out as a very fast squeak. LOL

Well there are other reasons to say His name. One day this person I knew held a 9 mm to my head and pulled the trigger. I did not know that she had a gun, much less that she was going to try to kill me. I had my head down trying to work on my computer and when I came up, there she was with that gun pointed right at my left temple. I only had time enough to say, "Dear Jesus, please help me". The gun went off and nothing happened except I went deaf for a while. So I thought it had blanks in it. Well, I turned and went around the corner into the next room and saw that the door was splintered in lots of pieces. So was the wall. So I went back into the room I was in and looked more closely at the bulletin board. And there it was, the whole in the wall right where my head was. So, in that case, I called upon Jesus to help me and He did. I will never forget that day. I don't know what He did but somehow that bullet did not go through my head. When the cops came, they took me into the bedroom and lined my head up with the hole in the wall and said there was no way, unless it was a miracle, that the bullet could have missed my head. I had to go before the Grand Jury in Dallas, TX to testify against this woman. But what I got out of the whole thing was that Jesus did a miracle for me that day, I was supposed to be dead. But it was not my time and He did save me. So sometimes calling on His name is the best thing we can do.

I understand the filters. I understand and accept the policy but technically I have a question. Just wondering. What if we had a DG member whose name is xJesus or you wanted to refer to your friend whose name is xJesus? Or you wanted to refer to a landscaper whose name is xJesus?

Aguane, Dave's post on the 25th answers this. The warning that comes up is a reminder to those not using it properly. When using Jesus as proper name you can disregard the warning and post.

Edited to say: Misunderstood a post. Whoops!

I think Aguane was posing a hypothetical question and placed the "x" in front to bypass the filter.

Merigold is right - the warning is just that - a warning. If you get a warning, re-read your post. If you believe the words are being used in a non-offensive, legitimate way you can disregard the warning and submit your post.
