Search Function in Forums disabled

Will this function be returning anytime in the near future?

Just wondering before I post a question that has been asked 9 million times, already! :)

When our other server gets back online I'll put the search engine back. That'll be a couple weeks from now at least.

I missed it the other day when it was down for a while, it is such a great feature. But it's not too hard to hunt stuff down by looking at the titles of old threads, usually. There's some great old threads. I bet a lot of them will get new posts. I wonder how seasonal changes affect how busy Dave's Garden is?

I really miss the search engine. I'm more of a lurker than a talker and I use the site for info. It's really hard to look things up without it.

Hope it's back sooner than later.

me too...I wanted to look up jap. maples for my zone and had to go through them 1 by 1...I'll sure be happy when it's back up..wanted to look up some other plants by zone also...:-(

JodyC, the Plant Files search is still working so you should be able to do your Jap. Maple search just fine. It's the forum search that's down.

It won't work..I tried on the Advanced search on jap maples...I entered zone 5b and it says..."We apologize, but this search did not produce any results. Most likely your search parameters were too specific. Please hit the back arrow and try again, removing some of the details."
All I entered was the zone and nothing more..something is wrong with it...:-(

I did not find a way to pic k the zone- might be something for Dave to add in the limits.

JodyC--I think you may need to choose another parameter in addition to your zone. I've been using this search recently for stuff other than JM's which is why I know it's not broken like the forum search. I tried searching JM's in your zone and got the same message you did, but then when I narrowed the search by choosing one of the JM groups, then I got results.

margaran--if you want to search by zone, you need to go into the advanced search, then you'll see that option (there are also many other things you can search by...such as bloom color, bloom time, propagation method, etc)

The plant files doesn't have information about seed gathering, planting, hints, etc like there is on the forums.

In fact I'm trying to find some info I found about lantana seeds on a search I did before it was down....now I'm screwed.

Would it be possible to announce to members on the home page or somewhere that the search is down? I thought at first there was something wrong with my laptop since it wasn't talked about anywhere but this thread.

The good news is that yesterday morning I brought our other two servers back online so we're back with 4 servers running DG. This means that if the servers all run stable for a few more days (and I expect they will) then I will be putting the search back online!

I'm happy to see all 4 servers running stably for almost a week now. I've put the search engine back up. :)
