Help Me Please, Dave!

Ladysmith, BC(Zone 8a)

I am having a great deal of trouble understanding my New Journal. Seems I have 180 items that are 'unknown'?

Also, most of my 180 items are already sown, and are outside, in flats. I just went to look at my flats and I have seeds comming up like crazy. I cannot seem to access my journal to say that 'Flax Blue', 'Gazania Giant Mix' and 'Helleborus' are up on January 26.

I am not very computer literate. Sorry for asking you what happened to my Journal.

Notmartha, I don't know if you are experiencing the same thing that I did, but I added statuses (or is that "stati" in Latin???)today.

Then when I clicked on "view all" from the main page, the "add items" text message didn't appear. I finally figured out that if I viewed my journal via a specific category ("perennials" or "annuals", etc.) I would then get the blue text at the top that I could click on to add more items to that category. Maybe this will help you....and hopefully it doesn't cause more confusion than it resolves!!! (And if this isn't the problem you're experiencing, forgive the intrustion....)

To change the status of an item, you need to edit that item. So, if you need to change your Flax Blue, view unknowns, click on edit under Flax Blue, and at the bottom, change the status. Then click on submit. This will take you back to viewing your item. Then click on add, and report that it had germinated. To change the status of all your items, you'll need to edit each one. On the main menu, you can add a new status. I have one called "under grow lights" to keep up with any that I have there.

To add a new item to an existing category, click on "new item" the same way as before.

If this doesn't clear everything up, let me know!

Trish

Trish and go_vols have successfully figured out the new system, but probably only after looking at it for a while. :)

Since I put in the new category motif, I had to change the way you add a new item. Now you can have your categories nested, so you can have a toplevel category called "Vegetables", and under that have "Heirloom" and under that one you may have "Tomatoes".

Go check out my journal to see how my categories are laid out:

So, when you have some categories filled in and want to add something, browse to the category where you want this item to be added. At that page, click on "Add a new item".

Sorry to be changing stuff around. In the re-write I'm trying to keep things as close to the way they were before, but I sometimes have to compromise.

Dave-
I didn't think figuring it out was any big deal, but then again, doing "live" user testing was a way of life for me up until a few months ago. And you have my undying admiration for what you're undertaking, because I think I can relate.

Before I left corporate life last summer, I was responsible for a new internal website that would allow our 20,000+ employees sign up, cancel and track their internal training classes.

Along the way, I was juggling the incessant needs/wants to upgrade/change the "old" system while keeping the technical guys focused on building and debugging the new system. (Sound familiar????)

Happy ending - a few weeks before I left, the new system was up and running and the crowds were cheering, so keep your chin up - you've got a very supportive and grateful group of users here!!!!!
