Why would the buds fall off after going so far to bloom?

OK, I sniffed my DS70 today and the scent is a lot stronger today than yesterday and it DOES smell like butterscotch. this is so neat! I had a hoya (carnosa) years ago and didn't know what is was. Couldn't get it to bloom either. Had not a clue how to care for it but the darn thing was tough. It hung in there when I would forget to water it, the dog's tail constantly hit it or knocked it over. (had it on a stand). I finally stuck it outside and forgot about it. I would water it when it was really hot and I was "over that way". Thing got so rootbound, I know there was no dirt in the pot and the water ran right thru it! I happen to be "over that way" and saw these white things on it. Upon closer inspection, the thing was covered with blooms. Neatest thing I had ever seen. I had never seen flowers look like that or form like that. It did not smell though. Maybe because it was outside or something but the blooms were unreal. Anyway, we moved and I lugged it along with me and left it outside on our patio. A freeze came a long and the thing turned to mush. I threw it way and didn't give it much thought anymore and then I found Daves Garden. If I knew what I had then! I am hooked on these things. I think hoya's are special. Dont know why, to me they are just a unique plant. I am just fascinated by them. Ok done rambeling.

Carol, Are your flowers and leaves that big because you live in HI or is it the type of hoya?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Dawn... It IS the plant but it is also the fact that they are growing outdoors in the elements. I think they would grow this way in similar conditions anywhere...and in greenhouses with the air movement, humidity, warmth etc.

I don't think H. davidcummingii will open before midnight on Samhain /All Hallows' Eve but she's giving her best to provide me with a lovely Halloween Treat!
Happy Halloween everyone.

Just the bottoms of the vines on one of the H. lacunosas (from Lankawi Is. I think)...this one hangs out in the shade house and gets buckets of rain every night!!! Edited to say it is the H. lacunosa "Poonsak"...longer narrow leaves.

I had forgotten to water my hoyas once to many and I think that's why some buds fell. Some are still holding on and opening.
