I am running the Eon marker co-op and I edit posts 1, 2, 3, and 4 sometimes several times a day. When I receive orders I edit post 2, payments post 3, DC#'s post 4. When it first opened I know I was editing a LOT everyday as the orders were pouring in.
Here's what I just got when trying to update the payments post.
Too many edits...
I apologize, but your per-day edit limit has been reached. Please wait until tomorrow to make any new edits
Is this a new thing??? Leave it to me to have too many edits...LOL
Susan
=^..^=
Why is there a limit on the number of edits you can make?
We had this limit in place for a long time and then it was accidentally lifted. We had two recent incidents where members attempted to edit out all their posts overnight, and we realized the limit wasn't working properly.
Hi Terry...
I just sent this dmail to Dave...
Dave, I need help, PLEASE????
I need to edit the marker co-op posts to update orders, payments and DC#'s. It won't let me do anything.
What is the limit of edits you can make? I haven't made ANY today and it says I have made the max.
I edit these a LOT. The co-op is closing tomorrow night and there will be a lot of edits I need to make.
Oh woe is me, LOL
Please help me......
Susan

You can make five edits in a day - I haven't tested it, so I can't tell you with 100% confidence that it's working properly, but it *should* be. Dave isn't always around on the weekends (he tries to spend time with his family ;o)
Any chance you could just create a new post instead of editing an old one?
Well, the way I have this set up it wouldn't work right. I apparently am already unable to edit today and I am behind on posting orders from last night and payments etc.
If you go and look at it you will see what I mean, if you have time. I think reposting those 'posts' would be confusing.
Can you help me? Can I be a 'special' case. I am pretty 'special' ....... ha ha
Susan

Susan, I'd be happy to help, but I don't have the access to change yours (or anyone else's) edit capability.
I have updated this. Starting now, anyone can make unlimited edits in the co-op forum and the "test" forum.
dave
Thank you, thank you, thank you.. You are the greatest!!
Regards
Susan

Happy to help, and I'm sorry for the delay. Thank you for hosting the co-op! :)
best,
dave
Hi there -
I was cut off from editing for my BB coop yesterday. I must have edited at least twenty times with the order changes. Just thought I'd let you know. It wasn't a big deal yesterday, as I was pretty tired and needed to not look at it anyway, but on Tuesday and Wednesday when the orders get finalized, it could be quite inconvenient.
Thank you.
Laura
Just dropped in here. Are the five edits the overall max for anything on DG or is the limit five edits for a specific thread?
Thanks.
Ann
It's five edits, maximum for any thread, anywhere (you can edit one thread five times, or five different threads) within any 24 hour period.
There should be a limit. Enough is enough already.
Joan
That's true Joan, unless you are trying to run a co-op and keep people updated in the first few posts instead of just posting after posting. Makes the threads very very long in that case and it isn't very organized.
Does this mean that you have again put the restriction on the co-op threads?
Susan
=^..^=
Unless Dave did something special, we never took it off the co-op threads. The editing limit wasn't working for a while (unbeknownst to us, until we had a couple incidents where hundreds of posts were wiped out overnight.) When Dave re-instituted it, it was just as it was before it stopped working properly.
I sent 4paws here. It is impossible to run a co-op and not be able to edit since there is always a limit on plants or bulbs and often a limited amount of participants. I remembered seeing that the edit limit does not apply to the co-op forum.
I totally agree people should not have unlimited editing elsewhere. I've seen on occasion, the strange post where much of it is missing. It makes for a hard and odd read.
The edit limit does not apply to the co-op forum, the test forum, DG Events, and the Roundup forum.

Ahhhhh - okay ;o)
Is there a limit in how many times total (cumulatively) you can edit a particular post? I have been working on the FAQ Sticky Thread and have edited it many times and have now lost my ability to edit at all this particular post: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/599185/ I can edit other posts just fine. I know the FAQ Sticky Thread is long and loaded with information, and I know how to make it more compact now if given the chance to. Can my edit option be restored?
Ahhhh - the reason you can't edit it (I suspect) is because it is locked to new replies. If my hunch is right, you don't see any blue "edit" hyperlink next to the text, correct?
Do you want me to open it temporarily so you can edit it?
I was able to edit it before when it was locked to new replies before so I don't think that is the problem, but if you want to unlock it to give it a try, I would be grateful. You are right that the blue "edit" hyperlink is gone.
Clare, the locked-threads function has had that effect (or "bug") for a long time, if not from the very beginning. I had forgotten the thread was locked, or I would have put two and two together sooner - please look at the thread and see if you can now edit it (you should be able to .) I'll re-lock it when you tell me you're done editing it.
Ah, you fixed it. It's back. Thank you soooooo much! Off to work I go...
All done for now. Thanks, Terry, for your assistance:-)
All done - thanks for your patience and perseverance ;o) (Hopefully the next time you need to edit, I'll remember what needs to be done right off!)
Thank you for your patience with me! I'll be sure to remember now so you go right ahead and forget about it. I'm sure you have enough things that you have to remember all the time, and this shouldn't be one of them. Thanks again for your help with this. That sticky thread seems to be very helpful to a lot of folks so I'm glad we have it;-)
