One that can walk on water....

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

When I remember my young age an incident crops up. There was a relative of my opposite house people and he claimed to be a 'Yogi'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogi (for meaning of Yogi). He did not live with them. He had claimed or challenged that he can walk on water and defy the laws of nature. The program was set, it seems and a time and venue was fixed. It came in the papers as it had some popularity. But ........ the yogi did not turn up. Later when he came there to his relative once or twice, we were looking at the man that failed to accept his challenge!! Oh, that man who walked on water, eh?? we used to wonder. It was such a shame for him.

But this little creature is naturally gifted, though now sitting on a water lily leaf, this can take the challenge!

That is a wonderful story and even better photo! Miraculous.

What do you mean by "opposite house people", maybe what we call "in-law's"? (People related by marriage)?

Cheers.

Dinu, such a sad story. Wouldn't we all like to make that claim.

I was always fascinated by the water bugs when I was a kid. I'd lean over the side of the boat and watch them skate around on the water.

"Opposite house" - people living right opposite our house across the street, face to face. I first saw these water skaters in a forest stream while we had gone trekking with a group. I was so thrilled looking the way it smoothly skated on the surface. But I never dreamt then that they would be right here with me, many years later. It is a wonderful sight. Now my pond is full of leaves, leaving these Raos (That man's name was Rao) less area to skate. They even multiply here.

You are so lucky to have a pond! What wildlife does it attract?

I consider myself lucky to have some soil to dig into, leave alone a pond. I am always of the opinion that not all are lucky to have some space for this and also the inclination to do. As for wild life, it attracts me!! We have such crowded areas that even roadside trees are in danger of being chopped down. Concrete jungle is all over now. Some birds visit my garden as it can get some food. Cats are seen as it can get some little reptiles and rodents.

I know what you mean by having a little soil. We all wish we had more, but some is a blessing. I have yet to plant "up," as on trellises, to make more of my space. I have a lot of yard, but I also need to leave room for the occasional machinery that needs to get close to the house. One year we had to have a sewer pipe dug up. Luckily he had room without tearing out a flower bed. That was a lucky lesson. I also want more fruit trees, but have 3 huge Walnut trees. The yard is much shadier today than when we moved in 30 years ago. I'm glad you are able to garden and save a bit of green in a crowded city!

I'm happy for whatever green I'm able to contribute to the environs. Moving in machinery (trucks, et al) is also another possibility here and so that is one of the reasons why I have kept the front yard open with a natural lawn as you might have observed in my other pictures.

I hadn't, so I went and looked at your threads. I really enjoyed them, but didn't get to all of them. I have so many forums that I follow I don't always have time to branch out. I miss a lot that way. Well, you now have a lot more comments courtesy of me. LOL. I'm off to my watched threads to try and get them cleaned up before I get to the housework.

Ah yes, billy. Like everybody else, I too follow only a certain list of forums (have not much time either) regularly. Others I miss too. But I have to be content with what is possible, within my limitations.
