Can we edit dmail?

Southern, United States

Are we able to edit our dmail? I received a dmail about some seeds I was offering for sasbe and realized that the person was not a subscriber after I posted. Is there anyway to edit that? I would prefer to offer only to subscribers......which leads to another question. How were they able to see my post and request my offer without being a subscriber? Just wondering.....thanks. Fran

I'm afraid you can't edit your dmail, and neither can we. Admins can delete a dmail in its entirety (the initial message and any replies that ensued.)

Non-subscribed members can see the first post in the threads that are posted to the subscribers forums. It's a way for visitors and non-subscribers to get an idea of the type of posts and discussions that take place in our forums, without making the entire thread read-only. (You can test this by logging out and accessing any of the forums that require a subscription.) Even with that much information, it's sometimes a tough sell to get them to subscribe "sight unseen" in their mind. (The newer forums, which are open to all registered members, make it somewhat easier to convince the skeptics they can "try before they buy".)

A few forums are completely invisible to non-subscribers (they can't see the thread titles or first post - in fact, the forum itself is hidden from their view.) Those that are in this category in clude this one (the DG forum), the roundup forums, the prayer forum, the co-op forum and maybe another one or two (but I've forgotten which ones they are, lol.)

Thanks Terry, I subscribed pretty much sight unseen as did many others.....isn't that why we are offered a two month trial for a lower price?? I understand though....thanks for responding.

Just a suggestion Princessyfs--I've dmailed people back after I've discovered that they are nonsubscribers and just explained that I preferred to trade only with subscribers. That is you're right and I do the same thing. They can't make you trade with them and your post was basically a free for postage.

Some people are willing to buy a potential "pig in a poke", but others are quite reluctant to part with their cash until they get an idea of what they're buying.

We get an earful on this subject pretty regularly at the helpdesk. (But I'd have to say the volume of complaints regarding the subscribers-only forums has diminished considerably - probably due to the "free" forums that have continued to spring up this year.)
