Welllll, jes blow me over with a feather ...
Mags - you gotta be jokin' I just walked past all of that at the local supper-market, about an hour ago - I didn't need any of it then either.
.. LOL .. 'Howdy', Dyson!!
We took care of that lil chore (outing) last night - in town!!
I was merely surprised .. to find the 'announcement' from Amazon.
Really like to window-shop the Amazon book department; and on some occasions their book prices are better than WalMart.com's prices - but, the need of shopping for groceries on Amazon is NOT on the near horizon for me (or, any internet site, for that matter).
Seems they've got a good many of non-perishables available ...

Ohhh .. who knows! It may be jes the ticket for certain folks ...
Sure seems that such wouldn't have been carried to this extent (set up and ready for 'shoppers') .. if the higher ups didn't see a plausible/realistic market ...
- Magpye
Hey mags - I've found that some books I really wanted could be got on amazon - but could also be found on e-bay (sometimes used) at a much better price. I don't care if there is coffee stain, I just want to read the material in most cases!
((Thanks)) for the suggestion, Dyson ..
Most times, when I'm shopping for books; it's for gifts, etc. Otherwise, I hit garage sales and the Goodwill and Salvation Army and similar 'thrift' stores. Pass many of the used books on to family and friends when I'm done ..
- Magpye
I hit those places also, for the books they "happen" to have .... but if i've read a review and really want to read it - it's e-bay, then if not found there - amazon.
Isn't it amazing the libary that can be built from the used book places?
I buy a lot of used books on Amazon. Ebay and garage sales are catch as catch can. If there's a book I want, I'll put it on my Amazon wish list, and when the price drops I grab it. And some of the "used" books are new or almost new.
try http://books.half.ebay.com/ for used books. I have bought from this site and have not been disappointed in the prices or the quality.
lilbit
Half.com, Alibris, Powells Books and AbeBooks are all great places to pick up bargain books. I'm with Dyson - I'm usually looking for content, not looks, so a "used" book, even with some wear and tear, is fine with me.
In fact, I'm currently waiting on the mailman to bring me two books: "Pruning Made Easy" book from eBay for $7 ($20 list price) and "How Plants Get Their Names" for $0.99 from half.com ($8.95 list price)
You'll sometimes find new books on half.com and price is often better than Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Books-a-million. These sites are also good at locating sources and making it easy to compare condition and prices:

Looks like you had better have a big pantry for shopping on Amazon. Goes by the case, 6, 8, 12, 24 items of each.
I just bought some pop tarts, they were on sale at my local store. I picked a few boxes of each, here I would have to take a case of each, either 8 or 12 to a case. I only paid about $1.25 a box. Here a case is $23.??. Enough said.
Bernie
Oh, has Amazon stock went up in price, too ?
I can understand the demand for Amazon to list some of these items. Haven't bought those but we do shop more than the norm online, we buy our dog food, rent our movies, buy our books, download our music, bought our car, etc Just one of the joys of living in a small town with only a Wal-Mart to shop at.
I suppose that Amazon may could give Sam's .. a bit of ample competition, eventually.
When the nearest 'shopping center' of any kind, is more than a 30 minute drive one-way: a body's gotta make some other arrangements, for sure.
Certainly use the internet to do our 'window shopping' for our vehicles. Also implement the use of the NADA and Kelly Blue Book web sites .. as well, as our credit unions' resale/trade-in invoice values. Sure keeps the running around and fuel costs .. in 'lookin', to a comfortable minimum.
Bernie .. Pop Tarts would likely be something worth 'our' checking into! The WalMart 'GV' brand Brown Sugar Cinnamon .. exceeds the Pop Tart brand, in taste (IMHO)!! .. hee
If we were young with 5 children at home, again {and living where we are, now} - the 'grocery' shopping via internet would probably pan out to be the better bargain! .. LOL ..
- Magpye
When I was young, I had 4 brothers & sisters. Grocery list was pretty simple, flour, sugar & yeast. All food was grown in our garden, raised in our barn our homemade. Bread, cake, cookies, etc.
Didn't even have a TV to remind us of what we wanted!
Bernie
I love frosted poptarts. Something I gave up years ago because of the calories.
ROFL Dyson "didn't need it then either."! Hehe.
Magpye, I brave trying generic's myself sometimes and do indeed agree Walmarts poptart version is better than the name brand!
Bernie ..
The 'entertainment' was ourselves and genuine conversation .. along with the expected sibling shenanigans between each other. Ya knew well, or knew of .. practically, every member in your 'family' tree: including the 'sagging' branches! (hee) Wouldn't it be something - if we could revert to 'those times' once more! Of course, there's a few hunnerd things I'd like to tote along with me! (LOL)
billyporter/Sal ..
Our daughter in New Mexico, apparently has the metabolism of which poptarts and goodies .. just don't seem to have any effect. If poptarts were to ever be pulled from the market, she'd definitely have a tuff time with withdrawal/adjustment .. and/or she'd resort to a life of crime. (heehee)
Tir_Na_Nog ..
Some things I've tried, then regret - some, prove wonderfully worthy. Gotta be plenty of us, that have learned from trial & error .. along with those items and brands, of which we stand firm about, and avoid like the plague. 'Day-jah-vu' .. Hmmm, hasn't a similar conversation taken place on another thread? YES, sure 'nuff - the 'Mayonaise' thread!! .. (HeeHee) Is that one still going -?-
((huggs))
