Taz is just lovely, Felicia.
That is so funny, Felicia and Kell, because my Buddy totally loves shoes and feet too. I've owned cats all my life but never had one that liked shoes so much. He just loves to rub his face all over them and inside of them. He'll take a foot over a hand any day. Too funny! I totally agree that cats and dogs are so much more loyal than people.
Thanks, Kell. I think we are so alike. I know you will see Nick again someday, and I will see Madam too and all my other lovely pets that passed before me. Your Molly is lucky to have you to take care of her too.
I got Buddy a little soft bed to sleep on, which is on my desk next to the window and right next to the monitor, but this picture was taken before we got the bed. We had only had him about ten days at this point.
There is a quote by someone unknown which goes: "If dogs and cats don't go to heaven when they die, then I want to go where they went."
I am so unhappy!
Clare,
It's too funny, when people come over, Taz has to rub all over people's shoes with his declawed front paws. It is definitely an obsession.
Buddy is very pretty. And I hope it works famously with you. :) I'm sure it will, because he already looks very content. :)
Ok, I can't belive all you people who let their cats on your desks!! Too funny! Mine has never tried, and I think he'd be kicked off as soon as he did. At least I'm "alpha male" in that area. :)
well my cat does NOT get on my compter desk BUT he lays across my lap the whole time I am typing, with his head on the corner of my laptop and watches the screen.
Does your cat ever try to catch anything on the screen Doris? I have had Gabby reach out with her claws as something went by. It was when I had one of those new screens and I thought she would ruin it. LOL
I hope you have a great time at your concert Felicia. Go and enjoy and leave your troubles home!
Oh Clare, Buddy is a beauty all right. What a great picture. He looks like he belongs there. He sure settled in like he was home at last. My Gab is a stray that adopted me when she was about 3 and she is the best cat I have ever had. So smart and so loving. I just can't understand anyone tossing her out to fend for herself. I often wonder what her name was in her old life.
Her eyes are really blue but I used the red eye correction on them. LOL
Thanks, Kell! Buddy tries to catch flies on the screen door and is always hooking his claws in it, and I have to unhook him! Gabby is a real beauty too. Nearly all my cats have been strays, and I too have wondered what their names were in the past. When Madam found us, we were living in a fairly remote location, and she was so hungry that she ate three cans of Friskee's cat food at one sitting. We knew that she had been around dogs because she didn't mind Duke and Duchess at all and used to hang out with them. After we adopted her, she continually showed her gratitude by bringing us all her catches. Every night, we'd hear the cat door snap, and her low announcement being made. She brought us mostly mice and gophers, but once she dragged a poor squirrel through the cat door and left him in my closet, and we didn't find him until the smell started to penetrate the bedroom. Her nightly hunts stopped when she became the hunted. We had a large white owl hunting on our property at night too, and the owl had babies in a tree of ours, and she tried to grab poor Madam by the head, and her talon broke Madam's jaw. Owls grab their prey and fly high with it and drop it to kill it. Well, Madam managed to survive but had to have surgery and a few teeth pulled. That was quite a tramatic experience, but I nursed her back to health, but she never forgot it, and it took a long time before she wanted to go outside again.
I can't understand anyone that intentionally abandons a pet. It makes my blood boil.
Great picture, Doris!
Lucky Madam... and I see she is the "top dog" too. Ms Kitty keeps our doggies in their proper place, but doesn't allow them to sleep next to her. She (and the dog babies) are rescue animals. The the positive thing about people abandoning animals is that at least some get better homes.... Thanks for sharing... nitey night. Elaine
LOL Doris, he looks like a sweetie. Do you let him out?
What a great picture Clare. I had no idea an owl could pick up a cat. How big are these owls? I would die if one got one of my cats. Gabby is so fat, it would be hard to grab her but Molly Mouse is so small. She is the hunter in our family. Nick used to bring home paper garbage every night but she brings home the bacon.
I am so glad Madame is OK now. I bet she has nightmares.
I think they are much sweeter pets too, Elaine. Though I would think they would be not so quick to fall in love with their new family after such shoddy treatment, but they sure seem to.
kell, I never let him out since he is declawed I would be afraid something would happen to him, he is quite content to sit and look, only problem now is the plants have taken over his spot, I don't let him in the room with the plants as he is always trying to dig in them.
By the way the room and my garage smells heavenly, and look at how this one is blooming, it is the one I intend to call Brittany unless the double that meage and I are growing turns out to be colored, I am hoping it is a pink.
This one is Isobella X Big Yella
Kell and Elaine, Madam is the one that died earlier this year, but she lived for many years after that attack. We called her 'Snaggletooth' sometimes because she no longer had one of her lower teeth after the attack. She remembered it too because, when she finally got to the point where she wanted to go out at night once we moved, she would hide in the early morning behind some big stuff that we had stored along the side of the house.
Yes, cats are often victim to both owls and coyotes. Owls are very powerful animals. My husband saw one here one morning about 3:00 a.m. When it took off, it had a five-foot wing span. They can easily lift cats, but they usually prefer smaller animals if they are more readily available. We've seen coyotes running down the street looking for breakfast as late as 6:00 a.m. Needless to say, Buddy isn't allowed outside at night anymore. He is too young and too naive. He would be easy prey.
That is so scary! We do not have coyotes but we sure have some owls. Oh dear! So sorry Clare, yes I knew it was Madame who had died. I was so tired last night and I still didn't go to sleep till 3. I was trying to delete enough pictures so I could defrag my computer. It is running so poorly all week.
Doris that is just gorgeous. What a perfect little standard. Just lovely.
Kell, back everything up if you can! I'm on DH's computer right now. My computer crashed the day before yesterday and is in the shop getting diagnostics on the hardware. I am worried because it has been a while since I backed everything up. If they can't fix it, I hope they can retrieve my pictures and documents from the hard drive.
Oh,, my, I was standing at the window late yesterday when a hawk swooped down to get a squirrel.. I beat on the window and he flew away. Ms Kitty is getting older so will make sure she is inside later in the day. Thanks for this reminder.. Elaine
Glad you could save that squirrel, Elaine! I bet he was grateful!
Clare,, I am sure they can retrieve your files. This happened to me also... I was sooooo relieved to get my pictures back. Need to get one of those automatic backup thingies...Elaine
There is a new kind of back up called Mirrors. I heard about it on the radio. Easy to use they said.
I had a terrible nightmare last night. My little girl cat Molly Mouse spends her days up on the roof. An easy catch. I won't go into the details..............
Clare, did you hear if your data has been saved yet? I sure hope so!
Hi Elaine and Kell, thanks for the encouragement. My hard drive was bad so it had to be replaced. It was about four years old, and apparently, they can just wear out. The computer guy said it crashed six times on him while he was trying to retrieve data. I had them put in a new hard drive, and I did get most of my pictures and documents back but lost all my programs, email, email addresses, email stationary, and a few other things. We bought a program at Costco called "Back up my PC" and an external hard drive for backing up info and programs, and I also spent all day yesterday backing up my files to CD-RW discs. It cost a little over $400 for the new hard drive and data retrieval. What a pain! But I'm a new believer in backing up my work.
Sorry that it happened to you too, Elaine!
Oh, Kell, I'm so sorry about your dream, but you don't have to worry about her during the daytime. Owls only do their hunting at night, and most of the time, they go for smaller prey so I think Molly Mouse is safe;-)
