yearbook prices

wow my daughters high school year book just costed me 55.00. gosh when i was in school they were like 25 at the most. wow i am sure they will keep going up though as prices go up but it seems alot to me but she wanted it.

i still have mine from school .

Mine was 8.00...guess that tells you how old I am. I keep my senior year book right at the computer desk even now. When I get an email from someone or read an obit in the paper, I can quickly put a face with the name. Mine is used regularly...30+ years later.

It seems school photographs are turning into big business! I remember when school pics were taken once a year, then there was makeup day. The schools now, are offering both fall and spring sittings with make up days for both! I do like to have lots of pics of the kids but twice a year? That would even be fine if the pics were good. I am rarely happy with the pics the kids bring home from school. We'll most probably send them all back...again. The kids will also get stuck with those mugshots in their yearbooks. LOL With six kids, we have to chose priorities carefully. I only have my senior year book and that is probably all my kids will end up having when it's said and done. Can you imagine six year books a year for 12 years? LOL I haven't seen a price for them this year but I am sure it will be high!

Pictures for three of them cost me $120. One has a smile that is all gums. Great shot! She had teeth when she left that day. Another has a nice poison ivy shot. Guess you have to pay for touch ups. The third kids are okay and would have been better had she had a hair brush. LOL

We'll probably end up getting our money back and going somewhere to have them done. I like to have each kid shot seperately then all of them together.

55$ is a deal compared to down here. very pricey....as is all of high school. Cars come into play...sports are a fortune..high school class activities/senior year. Its a killer. Then...for your reward...you can pay for college. :-o. Last graduted high school this year and I dont know if we will ever get clear of all of this. O well...i keep telling myself i will just sell some daylilies ;-)

With time 'slipped by', inflation, etc. - I think a lot has/had to do with the size of the particular school and the extensive content involved/desired, etc., in the publication of the yearbooks/annuals - - along with the applicable school board contracts made with the company/publishers. (meeting required 'minimum' orders, the 'layouts' = price .. and the particular company)

ie: Schools with a larger student body (& the associated academic/vocation/athletics and other curricular activities, etc.) compared with those with relatively smaller populations

Incidentally, I don't think it was too long ago .. that certain states/school boards allowed the publication of yearbook photographs that weren't taken by board-contracted yearbook photographers .. and naturally, the photographs had to meet certain criteria for publication.

(I think ours cost around $10, if memory serves...of course, that was many, many moons ago.)

$75 for one here, which is outrageous, but even more outrageous is the fact that seniors must have formal portraits taken (to the tune of $200 or more) in order to be in the yearbook - they don't do basic student photos, so if someone can't afford to go to a professional photographer for a sitting, they're out of luck. (And yes, these are public schools - sigh.)

And we also do full-blown yearbooks for the elementary school, which cost $30 or more. First, I don't think elementary kids need a yearbook (or formal dances or limo rides - is there any new experience left by the time you get to high school?)

When my oldest two were in elementary school, they did something that was a decent compromise, I guess: the school prepared an inexpensive ($5 or $7) paperback yearbook/autograph book. It was standard 8.5 x 11 notebook paper size; the artwork on the cover was selected from an annual contest they held for the students.

Each class had a page for the individual student photos, a group shot of the class, and one of the teacher. There was a separate page for photos of the principal, vice-principal, secretaries, nurse, kitchen staff, janitors, etc, and a couple extra pages for autographs - that was it - there were probably no more than 20 pages all-told. While I still maintain the elementary kids don't need a yearbook, that was a saner approach than doing the hardcover, expensive, highschool yearbook look-alike.

85 bucks here x2 for me. I have to say that they do a really nice job at the kids high school though. I have seen some pretty shabby looking yearbooks. The cost of a class ring made my heart go pitter pater. Luckily no one really seems to want one. Shall we talk about band trips etc. and trips to France with the AP class? Yearbooks are the least of HS expenses.

OMG! Class rings are out now? LOL I am sadly realizing I am completely out of date myself, with everything going on. LOL Time to switch my BHG sub to Vogue or Cosmo or something. I remember when I used to have the latest fashions 6 months ahead of everyone else.....of course I had a figure that would fit into them too. LOL

I just thought of a new invention , class ring with cell phone and mp3 player built in it .. wonder what the price for that would be heheheheheheee

gosh not ready for class rings yet. wow only in 9th grade she is. i know i will spend a bundle in senior year. hehe

Sure hope inflation stays at a somewhat reasonable rate, during the next 3 - 4 years. Goodness!
At the rate things are going; the college funds may have be tapped in to .. long before college!

My last one just graduated from High School last May. We figured that by the time all was said and done, we had spent almost $3000 just getting him graduated. There's the announcements to the tune of almost $300, the cap and gown was almost $100, the pictures were almost $1000, Senior class trip set us back $500, class ring was somewhere around $300, and then there was the open house after graduation which I can't remember how much that cost, but it was a lot. I remember writing a check for $120 just for the cake. Oh, and don't forget the 3 rolls of stamps I had to buy to mail the announcements and thank you cards. $117. For his graduation gift we gave him $200.

The yearbooks here cost $28, and a few dollars more if you want their name engraved on the front.

Wow.. when I graduated HS I didn't do announcements (figured everybody I was close to knew I was graduating, since they all kept asking "so where are you going to college next year?"), cap & gown couldn't have been more than $75 I don't think... pictures were the pricey part, near $400, no senior class trip, class ring was probably $100 or less.. the "graduation party" was a combined church high school group "birthday & graudation & any other holiday we could think of" mid-summer in our garage (total attendance less than 20).

Yearbooks might've been around $80-$100, but we certainly didn't spend thousands on my senior year... Graduation present from my folks was the promise they'd help pay for college, and co-sign the rest for loans... =) I didn't make a big deal out of high school graduation, or undergrad ceremonies, for that matter. Now, when I got my MS and moved to SC for my first job, then they threw a party.... Surprised the tar out of me, since I hadn't had any big parties my whole life...
