A letter was sent to my old address in Clayton, WA in August. By the time I got it, the letter had been opened and the contents were a newspaper advertisement about starting your own business, investing in real estate, etc...... There was a sticky note attached to it that said "Karrie, you gotta see this. J" The post mark on the envelope said "Santa Ana, CA" however, the newspaper says "Spokane, WA" in the upper right corner.
I did not get this in the mail soon enough to go to the conferences in this area, but am wondering who sent this to me. If it is anyone from Dave's, could you please d-mail me and let me know? BTW - I don't live in Clayton, WA anymore - I'm back in Spokane and have been since last December.

???? Strange Mail Arrived ????
Karrie, I've gotten those before. They make it look like a friend sent it with the sticky note, but it's nothing more than an advertisement. The ones I've gotten have been about losing weight, and the newpaper ad was for a weight loss product.
if that is the case - what a sham!
I've gotten those, too. Lately, though, I just get spam e-mails from a "friend" who wanted me to "check this out."
this wasn't email. it was physical mail
Those have been going around for several years. They are either about a job you might want to check out or a weight loss program that this fictional friend is dying for you to try. Toss it and forget about it.
I get several a year..
Larkie
I've gotten a couple, but none lately. I hate it when people invade my privacy!
The weirdest thing about it is that it was sent to the Clayton, WA address that I only lived at for a few months. It's in the garbage can. Thanks!
???
Yes, you said it was an actual letter. I used to get those, too. As I said, though, a lot of those kinds of scam artists have transferred over to e-mail. Cheaper and faster, I guess.
Maybe I'm not getting your point...?
My point was that hardly anyone had that address - but it was posted in the address for subscribers in Daves Garden. That is why I wanted to know if it was junk or if someone from Dave's had sent it to me. It's no big deal. The seminar was over and gone before I even got the letter.
It's kind of scary that they may have taken your address from Dave's.
The only people who can access the address list here are those that have their own address in the list.
Karrie, did you order anything and use that address? Or get a bill sent there? There are so many companies that sell their mailing lists that it's almost impossible to not end up getting junk mail like this.
Have you ever seen the ads in the paper where they say they are looking for people to work from home stuffing envelopes? This is the type of thing those people do. They have to order and pay for a mailing list, then they supposedly get so much money for each mailing they send. Another scam I think.
True, there must have been something to get that address on a mailing list.
It's a big mystery how some places end up getting your address. My DH got something like that in the mail a few months ago. I told him it was junk, but he called the number anyway.....then found out it was junk.
For the last few years we have been getting mail at our address for my in-laws. They have never gotten mail here before that....we've never attached their name to our address before. So, how did this happen?
My mother got one of those many years ago. She was in her late 80's at the time and she was so hurt that someone, presumably a friend, would have thought she was fat. We had the worst time convincing her that it was a scam, it looked so real to her.
That is so sad.
I got something today inviting me to a free seminar where I could learn to become a millonaire. It was hand addressed to my current address. But almost no one has my current address. My brother does, the bank does, my creditors do, and work and the dojo. But I can't see any of them putting my address out for spam mail.
No, I'm not going to go. It's the same time as my kempo class, and they didn't say anything about free food. :-)
It's the creditors that sell addresses.
The phone company and electric company sell my address to spammers??
I wouldn't think that utility companies would, but credit card companies and mail order places definitely do
No credit cards, and most of my mail order is either Amazon or gardening places.
Although I do shop at ebay.
The crooks have really gotten good at addressing envelopes and making them look like they were hand written. I am betting yours was computer generated with a font and ink that made it look like it was hand done.
I was not getting any bills of any kind at that address, nor did I order anything from anyone. I was on disability at the time - so only the state had my info. I didn't pay bills in my name - I just gave Marcia, the woman I was staying with, money to help pay my part.
