I sure hope mine arrive ok. I tried looking up pics of the ones I ordered and one looked like it was on the delicate side.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I didn't get mine either. :( Have everything all ready, though. Distilled water and ST. Cloning machine all set up with nutrient solution. I hope at least some of my cuttings make it.

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Plantmom, well get them tomorrow, I can feel it!

Philomath, OR

Tammy, love those leaves! I think we should plan an early order in the spring. It should be at the end of DL's growing season and maybe more will be available. Out of the 9 I ordered only one was available. Keep posting everyone! I'm living vicariously through all you....

Oh, sorry ladies they didn't come today. I am only a hop, skip, and jump away from Oregon so I am sure thats why mine arrived sooner. The anticipation alone will kill ya though. Keeping my fingers crossed for you too.

NO WAY!!! Our girl at work, goes to the PO everyday at 10:00. It must have come AFTER she went. They close at 4:00 and it never even occured to me that they might have arrived later in the day. I could have gone by there on my way home!! I CANT BELEIVE IT!!!!!!

edited to say Thank you Ms Mitty for taking the time to give me that info. I will be going to the PO tomorrow myself! I have also been "suckered" in to ordereing a bat plant (from the tropical forum) and waiting on that anyday too

No problem Patricia. Besides, my recent experiences with USPS suggest to me that they are 1) not very responsible with our things, and 2) are more than happy to "lie" about delivery. So, I'm not surprised that they managed to have it arrive after your person picked up the rest of the mail.

I know MsKitty since there is a BIG sign on the wall saying "All mail is delivered by 9:30am) hmmmm
Thanks again though

Crossin' my fingers for those of you whose haven't arrived!

You chose nice ones, Tami!! Which one has the 'reddish' leaves....the one with 'Christmas' in the name, LOL??

I took photos of my cuttings when they arrived, but haven't had time to upload yet.

A few weeks back, I was expecting TWO packages.
Our PO closes for an hour (10-11AM...for lunch!) every morning, and that usually works out to be about the time I arrived, so I didn't go in and *ask* if my packages were there, since they've *never* forgotten to leave a card (They'll sometimes leave more than one!) .....well....guess what....both packages were inside the PO for 10 days, and they never ONCE left a single card!!!! aaarggghhh....luckily (and unbelievably) my plants were OK, even after their week of neglect!

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

JUST got back from the PO with mine. Here they are. Only two look weak.

Question, Some of these are REALLY long, can I cut them and make more or should I root these to get strong first?
Thanks,

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

I'm sitting in Philadelphia, on vacation with DH who is attending a conference for work. (free internet hookup in the room - woohoo!) Sis Betsy has agreed to be my hoya cuttings' surrogate mother until I get back - on Monday. She's the best person I know to keep them pampered and, hopefully, rejuvenated, until I get home. As of this morning, they had not yet arrived to her home. Keeping my fingers crossed.......Karen

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Karen they will arrive, they will arrive, they will arrive!!

pdoyle, because I am a hoya hog, I cut any and all that are long enough. I cut my one and only DL hoya H. mindorensis poring 2 IML 1777, in half and it already has roots. If you do cut them, I have been told to make sure (if possible) that you include at least one node that will below the soil line. Please wait for an expert to chime in, (I'm just telling you what I do) Good luck! -joanne

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Joanne. IF I cut any of them, it would be the really long ones (2) and then I think I would only cut in half. Jus noticed that I ordered h. finlaysonii and one I rec'd is labeled h.fiRlaysonii. Which is the correct spelling ?

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Here's mine the day I received them.
longifolia, retusa, aff.hellwigiana, respectively.

All are doing well!

Pdoyle, according to Aloha Hoya's website, the correct spelling is the first one. H. finlaysonii. God bless, -joanne

I am one happy plant person today! I finally received my cuttings today and they looked great! Well, except for one sad one that had one leaf that fell off (1391 sp. IPPS 8898). I even received almost everything that I ordered. Here is what they looked like out of their ST bath.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Here is the poor dead-looking hoya. :( I'm still trying to root it. The last leaf fell off so it now has none.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

And here are all of the cuttings ready to root.

Thanks, Ann, for all of your hard work and for allowing me to participate in the order. :)

Still in Philadelphia, but I just received an email from Betsy - she received my cuttings, and most of them look good!!! It's sooo great having a sis that's a hoya addict, too!! She's got them soaking, and is hovering over them like a surrogate mother!!! THANKS BETS!!! OK, now I can relax and go see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, and everything else that Philly has to offer, and not worry about my cuttings!!
Another great big thanks to Ann, too, for all your hard work and enduring all that bureaucracy!!!!

Karen, good for you! all I got was brothers who want to shoot things that have horns and only like green stuff if they can weed and feed it cut it twice a month and forget it! Oh well, I love'm just like that :~) -joanne

Ok Y'all has passed being excited to bragging. It's just more than I can take. :-)
I know y'all are excited. They all look wonderful. Hope they all root for you. What beauties.

Joanne, I had three sisters and know of them are into plants so you could have it worse. My Hubby and Son each got a yearling last weekend and it sure tastes good. Surly at least your brothers keep you in deer meat.

Tami

Prescott, AZ

All your cuttings look nice everybody. Oh I can't wait for spring order...

Nan the cutting with the orange/reddish leaves is IML 1400 H. sp. DMC5667B. It is a real beauty. The Christmas on is different name huh? Hey ya got to have a seasonal hoya too.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Nan that is a super nice H retusa cutting. I bought that plant on ebay last year and it grows like wildfire.

Pdoyle, I didnt always, but do now cut all of my hoya cuttings into as many peices as I can. I dint do that with my first DL order and I lost a few varieties completely because of that.

When we got our new shipment of cuttings from him back in April I chopped them into pieces leaving about 3/4 inch below a leaf node and having at least 2 nodes above ground.

This turned out to be a good insurance policy for me by doing this as I didnt loose any of the new ones entirely, though I did have a few of the new pieces to die off.

By cutting them up and rooting many smaller pieces you also get a much fuller pot much faster than if you just left the original cutting intact.

I only lost one totally and that was H telesmoides which I was warned before ordering that I may have trouble with!!

I am with Joanne on being a hoya hog and I am by no means an expert on hoyas or any other species of plant for that matter. I just know that the methods i use work for me so that's what i'll keep doing.

How do you like your cloning machine? How do you do yours? I started to order one and the guy was into selling fertilizer and started to tell me how to do it and I chickened out. He said unless I have a nursery I didn't need it. What do you think?

Philomath, OR

dmichael and plantmom, how do you like your cloning machines? The type you purchased dmichael, sounded great. How do you feel about it now? Thanks for your time, -joanne

Philomath, OR

Jeri, I love the way you think ;~)

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

If you look at the pics of plantmoms,we have the same unit. I like mine and it seems to work rather well so far. Very simple to use and compact.

dmichael

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Jeri I dont have a nursery and wouldnt have chickened out but rather would have hung the phone up on someone who presumed to tell me what I do and dont need when they dont even know me from adams house cat!! This idiot obviously didnt want to make or doesnt need the money.

I bought mine because I go in on these David Liddle orders and I find those thin wirey stemmed hoyas very hard to root and survive. I thought maybe with a cloning machine and some growth stimulants that i might have better luck next time.

I have 3 gh's and tons of plants and can use this thing to turn out many cuttings in a short period of time, thus making lots of money on ebay to help cover the cost of heating those 3 gh's. So see I dont think you need to have a nursery to have one of these things. Besides the units that I and plantmom have are nothing more than 3 gallon buckets with a few add ons.
