OT: David Liddle Order On The Way

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Yeahooo, David Liddle has just informed me that the package left his place today, and depending how long it has to sit at the USDA, it should arrive to me sometime next week.

So.....

I am under the assumption that most of us have cuttings that weigh one pound or less. So, I would like to propose that people send me $5.00 for shipping via USPS Priority Mail. I have a paypal account, or a check will work also. If anyone's cuttings weigh more than that, the USPS will charge me accordingly, and I would hope that anyone whose cuttings do cost more to send, will do the honorable thing and send me the difference when I contact you.

Also, I need everyone's actual address of where you would like the cuttings sent.

I have some INSTRUCTIONS that should help us proceed from here:

1. If everyone that is on this order will please d-mail me with two bits of necessary information:

1a. The address where you wish your cuttings sent
1b. The method by which you intend to pay for my shipping to you.
1b1. If you intend to send me a check, I will reply with my address where you can send a check
1b2. If you intend to pay via paypal, I will reply with my paypal account address

2. Don't forget that as soon as the cuttings arrive to me, you will receive an invoice from David Liddle for the amount you owe him, as well as your agreed-upon payment terms.

3. As soon as the cuttings arrive to me I will post on this thread that they have arrived and are being immediately sent out via USPS Priority Mail, so that you can make sure to be around or make arrangements for the package arrival in about 2-3 days.

4. Joanne has very kindly offered to drive down from Corvallis to help with the packing and shipping, so a collective thank you to her for her kindness and generosity will be very much appreciated :-)

Yippeee, ladies and gentlemen, we are a go!

Ann

San Francisco, CA

Thanks Joanne and Ann! Just don't get hoytoxicated and end up on a midnight bus to Mexico with all of our cuttings!
I wish I lived closer, I'd come up too. It will be a real pleasure to open that big box and see everything in the flesh, I'll bet.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

I'll take pictures and post them before we head for the border (heh heh heh).

Aberdeen, NC

Ann -Any idea how big our order is ???? I can not wait................

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

USPS has a flat fee for priority mail of $8.10 per box.

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

I d-mailed you my address and payment method. I tyed too quickly and typed the name of my work place wrong. I sent you a correction d-mail but I dont see it in my mail folders. Can you verify you got it? Thank you. I am so excited.

Bec_No_Va, Unless you have over 2-3 pounds of cuttings the priority rate should not be over $5 anywhere in the USA. I ship plants and cuttings world wide and flat rate is a good deal (in the USA) if it's a heavy box but I don't think it will be for most of these orders. If you want yours sent that way talk with Ann. I have flat rate boxes too, so I'm sure it could be arranged (I'm not answering for Ann, just for myself :~) Have a great day and God bless. -joanne

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I am so excited! I guess I need to get everything ready and not wait until the last minute. A HUGE thank you to both Ann and Joanne.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanx Joanne, me thinks I will have a heavy one :-)

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Here is an update from David Liddle:

Attached is the final cutting list for the consignment. I will send the
invoices after the consignment is delivered to you. The Phyto and Freight
charges averaged at USD 82 cents per cutting.

The boxes (it required 2) are in the hands of customs as we speak. Let me know if you want a copy of the invoice - dmail me and I'll email it to you.

Here's an irritating update:
The USDA called me and said that USPS should not have taken that first box to send because it has the original phytosanitary certificate on it, and they will not inspect the second box with the copy until they have the original. As soon as the box with the original arrives, I am to remove the certificate from the outside of the box and overnight it back to the USDA and at that time they will inspect the box. If all goes well they will simply send that box on, if there is a problem I will have to send the other box back too (I have been informed it is a federal crime to open the box without their permission - oh, great). I hope the second box arrives by tomorrow. I will keep you updated.

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Always something isn't it?!?!?!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

OK, all is OK, they just called me while I was out sending the overnight package to the USDA with the phytosanitary certificate, and said that they inspected the box and are releasing it to USPS so it should arrive to me by Thursday - they are going ahead and sending it without having the original cert in hand because, they say, I was very helpful and willing to do what they asked. In the meantime I have permission to open the box I have in my possession. I intend to send those out today. I will let you know if your cuttings are in this one.
OK, I feel a little better, but I am irritated that they put me through all that and cost me an add'l $15.00. Oh, well, everyone was very generous with their mailing money, so I think it has been mostly covered.

Ann..I had my check ready to go out yesterday, had it 'metered', then forgot to stop at the PO on my way home.
So, I'll send out a new check today with a little extra added to help cover that extra cost to you, too.

San Francisco, CA

So Ann, your name was on the arrived list. I'm assuming that you are just to busy to tell us how excited you are with your new plants? And what you got? Inquiring (nosy) minds want to know!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks Nan! Whew, Mark, yes they did arrive, but I was so crazy dealing with the USDA (five phone calls in one day with those bureaucrats) that I was unable to get any kind of happy groove on, and when I finally got to open the one box I had in my possession, I wanted to get everyone's out immediately, so mine got to wait in their little fabric baggy for a few hours. They spent a few hours in some nice room temperature water with superthrive, and now I am water rooting 1/2 of the cuttings in brown & green beer bottles, and rooting the other half of the cuttings in seedling mix in a empty fishtank. Hopefully I will have no losses - I should be OK, pretty much everything I ordered was very healthy with thicker-leaves and stems, and were very woody, with lots of nubs on the stems, so I feel pretty confident that they are hearty enough for my care.

Lets see ... I ordered the following (well I ordered more but he was out of the others):

0892 I davidcummingii
1377 I dolicosparte
1214 I graveolens
1604 juanngoiana
0768 W mindorensis ssp. Superba
1348 I sp. IPPS7203
0146 I sp. (ridleyi)
0738 I sp. (acuta)
1514 I sp. Ban Ngong Ngoy
0272 I sp. indet.
0380 I sp. ( aff.chuniana), PNG6
1398 I sp. DMC5655B

One of them even has a peduncle on it - I hope it survives the rooting process ...

Slurp!
Ann

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

did anyone get an invoice from David yet? I keep checking my email and I don't have anything.

Prescott, AZ

What a divine list. I ordered sp. Ban Ngong Ngoy this spring, it is a nice happy growing hoya. I'm very pleased with it, and it rooted fast. Crossing my fingers for your peduncle. Hey I'm going to forward Sandy a pictue of sp. Ban Ngong Ngoy, so have her forward it on to you. Happy rooting....

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Susan, I think he is waiting until all of the cuttings arrive before sending out invoices. I don't know why, but that seems to be how he intends to do it.

She sent it, Tami. Thank you. Now I am really glad I ordered that cutting - that is a glorious bloom. How do you care for yours?

Ann

Long Beach, CA

Good grief, Ann...I have never even heard of most of those. You really ARE getting into the obscure and unusual now aren't you? I don't even see dolicosparte on his list. How did you ever come up with the thought to order that one?
Marcy

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Got mine this morning...thanks, Ann!!
2 retusa, 1 helwigiana, 1 longifolia.
(I was shopping on a budget, and fortunately, for me....I stuck to it....this time)(Ü)

They look pretty good for the most part. Longifolia looks a bit 'shrivelled'....but she's in for some TLC when I get her home!

I haven't received my invoice from David yet, either.

Thanks again, Ann!
(Was that totally cool shipping 'bag' yours or DL's?)

Prescott, AZ

Ann, after it developed a good root system, I planted it up into my regular potting meduim. It took awhile for it to take off and want to grow. This one enjoys it cool, as once the rains and cooler weather hit this summer it started to grow. The bloom is really pretty.

Nan, nice list. I commend you for sticking with your budget, high five.... :) H. helwigiana is a very cool hoya, and a really good bloomer for me, and smells divine :)

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

lol...high fivin' you back, Tami!
The leaves of helwigiana are gorgeous...that's usually the big 'selling point' for me....I'll have to try and get a photo.

Trelleborg, Sweden

Just out of curiosity... When we received our orders from David a few weeks ago some labels said hellwigiana and some labels said aff. hellwigiana. When we checked it with David he confirmed it should be aff. hellwigiana. Perhaps something you also should check with him? Even Carols hellwigiana is an aff. hellwigiana so if you got one from her you should add an aff. to it.

Christina

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks for the tip, Christina....I'll check into that, but in the meantime I'll just go ahead and add the 'aff.' to my label!

Double checked when I got everything home, and my tag *did* already say 'aff. hellwigiana'...oops!

A good soaking (I used some Eleanor's) did a world of good...got everything potted this morning!

Thanks Joanne and Ann! My treasures have arrived. They all look great, nobody looks sickly. Now that they're in my hands I'm sure there will be some type of drama!

Uncorked a bottle of Austrailian (sp?) Shiraz to celebrate. Mine are soaking in the sink in tepid water with a little Superthrive and sugar. I also snipped the ends to make sure they can absorb the water and nutrients.

Pots are in the dishwasher sterilizing. Bathtub full of dirt from pre-washing the pots. DH will be thrilled to see the mess.

Gotta go, I'm hooked on Grey's Anatomy.

What a great day! Hoya, wine, Grey's Anatomy and a letter from my redneck son who's in Marine boot camp in San Diego.

Susan
