Fluffles!!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Kell, that's a real pretty and "different" looking brugmansia flower! I love the way the skirt shows up on the top. I think this fluffles wants to be a vegas show girl!

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Fluffles is gorgeous! You will have to cross her with everything in sight and see what you get next. I take that back she is pretty just the way she is:)

Kell
Is that a trait that will go away as the plant matures, or will they always do this.
Or only when there is a blue moon and pregnant spiders pee on them?
Find it curious and fascinating, what can I do to duplicate????HMMMM

Oh yeah, I think they are very wOw !

Kell, beautiful "Mom's Fluffles" Hope you are all better with your health. I just had a weird bloom on an unnamed pink scented. Will take a picture tomorrow. We had drought most of summer,, Elaine

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Which clivias are you crossing??? I have grown clivia miniata from one my mom gave me years ago.. It does take a long time. Seeds are hard to germinate.. Elaine

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I have a clivia. It was given to me when it was actually in bloom. It didn't bloom this last year because it had been knocked over and I had to re-pot it. I heard that you have to wait at least a year after re-potting it to see blooms again. It is my favorite house plant. Not sure which type it is - just a big plant with orange lily like blooms.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Elaine, I would love to see your strange bloom. They are such fun.

I have no idea if I will still get these next year. They keep coming though. LOL! I can tell by my mail that if this one is back next year it will be hot. LOL. I am enjoying it for now and not worrying about the future.

Thanks all for you kind wishes. All I can say is enjoy today as much as you can! Things can change so quickly. And thank you Pollygardening for your kind words. I love Dave's and have made so many real friends here. It is just great. Plus I have learned so much too.

Here is one from another brug. It is consistently putting out blooms like this.

Hi Elaine and Karrie. I love clivia. A good friend was so into them and after looking at his pictures and listeing to all his enthusiam for quite a while, I got sucked in big time. I am so easy. LOL

I prefer highly variegated and also the smaller Chinese clivia. I have quite a few now. The variegated offer such entertainment even when they are out of bloom.

Elaine, try rockwool. I have great germination and haven't gotten rot yet.

Hi Kell

What are you feeding these guy:) Another one coming up just like a sister to Fluffles, WOW!.
In this second one a thought occurred to me, could it be it is trying to become a shredded?? I have no experience with this just a novice with an inquiring mind:) Do you grow some that are shredded and could this be in the background from these ? Was it grown from seed? Whatever they are trying to do they are just gorgeous.

Kell,

I love that variagated one you showed! Mine isn't variagated, but it the blooms look exactly the same. They make wonderful/attractive houseplants. I have mine in an urn. Psst....... can I get some seeds from the variagated one that you have? I have some rockwool.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

The pale one reminds me of a wedding cake! I stare and stare at them but can't for the life of me figure out what it really reminds me of. Like a castle of whipping cream.. a double dollip.. LOL Kell, I didn't know of your health issues.. I'm glad to hear your okay now.. or for now... I will pray for your health. You are so loved here. I for one am honored to have "met" you here at Dave's and have learned so much from you. I found my true love.. brugs.. and I have you to thank for helping me along.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks so much Joyce, I really appreciate your kind words. I do try to give back what I was given here. I also have such fun. Everyone is so friendly and in love with brugs on htis forum. And you might have noticed I like to chat almost as much as I love plants. LOL

Hi Karrie, so good to see you back. I have no seeds right now but some in the pods. So I will have to see how many ripen. I am hoping for lots of blooms this next spring and I will be really ready to pollinate, pollinate, pollinate.

Hi Bea! No, I do not use shredded white though I happen to have one in bloom right now.

Kell, this is the odd bloom on pink scented brug. The plant is not very healthy and I think that is what caused this. Sorry it came out so blurry.

WOW such big leaves! I hope you get a good one!

Watch your weird pink there, it look shredded. Some people were hot to get a shredded pink.

Thanks for keeping me updated on the seeds.

FLUFFLES!!!!!

Be still my beating heart!!!!!!

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Dumb question - is the pink above considered a shredded ? For some reason I thought shredded was like the wind tore up pedals .

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell
I am rotflmao
Only you............
I can't quit giggling
and its pink to top it off

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

kell, did you cross-pollinate all of those 3 with the same parent plant?

San Manuel, AZ(Zone 9b)

Fluffles is absolutely gorgeous! I enjoy the Brugs so much. I just gave my friend who recently lost her twin sister to cancer my gorgeous yellow one it had around 20 blossoms on it. She was so happy with it. The plant seemed to know why she was leaving my patio and just kept on blooming! Made me feel good too.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Is shredded easy to polinate, Kell?? I LOVE your Fluffies!!! Until this year, during my short tenure, I've never had odd or deformed buds or blooms, but, in my garden, this year is an exception. Some girls, such as Harlot, Tiara, Butterfly, many crosses, all which had bloomed 'normal' size previously have blooms that are about 1/3 the size they normally are. OTOH, I used very little fert because it was so HOT/DRY - I watered two, three times a day, and I've had very few bugs, and I had/have lots of blooms, on almost bald trunks, leaves removed to avoid more stress, and now I'm having small blooms. They are cute, fragrant, but not the norm. Your Fluffies might be my most fav girls thus far, they are special and you are one more talented hybridizer!!!!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

OH MY! Leave it to you to come up with this! To funny.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sherry, I read an article that said all the fertilizing causes the lush green growth which the mites are attracted to. So maybe that is why you were so bug free! I did nothing in my crosses to get such weird blooms, believe me it is not talent just luck. I haven't tried to cross my Shredded for a very long time so I can't remember if the stamen is easily accessible or if it is weird and deformed. I personally do not find it attractive (though very interesting) so I have no interest in using it myself.

I have 2 more buds on this one so lets see what they look like before we get out the champagne. LOL

Betty, they all were from the same pod.

Tony, I consider Elaine's pink brug a shredded but what do I know? LOL

Hey CC, had I not sent you guys this picture? I will have to send it to show Susie.

Thanks Radio and Joelle.

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you . Like I said , I thought a shedded was torn petals , not deformed petals [ maybe wrong words ]
Anyway , I won't pass on them anymore .
I think there was one at the round up I went to .

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am no expert on names, but Elaine's brug looks like separated petals to me but yes deformed too. I consider Shredded White to be deformed also in that it is not the norm. I need to go look but from memory I think Shredded is a double white that has separated petals and Elaine's looks like a single bloom.

OK, I just ran outside and it is a double white.

I LUV shredded!!!!!! That's why they have Pepsi and Cokes and Mountain Dew, there's a market for all, huh?!! One thing I will say for shredded, well for the shreddeds I've seen photoed on the brug forum this year, the Shredded White in particular, looks almost identical in every photo I've seen - even mine! I'm sure there are lots of brugs that are true to form, I just haven't grown one as true as SW, I never dreamed, re her sweet fuzzy leaves & buds that she would do well here, hot/dry, how about that!!!! Kell, mine will have no pods, she was dry as a bone, I saw no pollen, but she has more buds, so I'll try her in the GH if it freezes...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I meant to look up her skirts to check, Sherry. I will go back out later and peek.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

That's interesting re the mites, etc, Kell. Now that the weather is nicer and I have buds/blossoms every place, I'm seeing more bug bites, not mites, slug/snails, I guess...I didn't have bugs during the heat, nor did I have leaves, whew, maybe one of these days I'll get a whole package, ya think?? I won't hold my breath...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I forgot to go look, I rushed out to get dinner. Sorry. LOL Sherry, the whole package. You just might. Get a bougainvillea, they are carefree and bloom fancy free!

I have baby snails all over too, I think they hatch in the fall. They ruin leaves!

The following is a message from my 9 year old daughter, Cori.

Hi, I am Indiana-Lily's daughter, Cori. I just wanted to say that I really, really like fluffles, and if you ever name it and register it, I would buy one as soon as I could.
